NBC News has confirmed that as soon as tomorrow, President Obama will name Commerce Secretary Gary Locke as his nominee to serve as the next U.S. Ambassador to China. Locke would succeed Jon Huntsman, who is leaving the post next month amid speculation he will become a Republican presidential candidate next year. Before joining the Obama cabinet, Locke had a long history of serving the State of Washington, including two terms as Governor.
The tiny nation of Qatar beat out the U.S. as the 2022 World Cup host. FIFA held a press conference today to announce their pick. Russia was also tapped to play host in 2018. President Obama just knocked FIFA's choice, calling it "the wrong decision." It's certainly a bummer for the U.S. Soccer Federation, which spent gobs of money on its bid and even brought in Bill Clinton as a ringer to close the deal.
