What's more fun (or depressing) than finding out how much someone else makes? Today is our lucky day because the White House has posted the 2012 annual report to Congress which details their salaries.

    Here are a few highlights:
    Jay Carney $172,200
    David Plouffe $172,200
    Dan Pfeiffer $172,200
    Valerie Jarrett $172,200
    Jack Lew $172,200

There seems to be a pattern amongst senior staff.

A few more interesting observations on the list: A White House Chief Calligrapher makes $96,725, a Senior Scheduler makes $58,000, and an Ethics Advisor makes $136,134.

The White House has been required to deliver this report, detailing the title and salary of every White House Office employee, since 1995. Check out the full list here.

  • How President Obama found out about SCOTUS decision

Were you confused on how the Supreme Court ruled this morning? So was the President.

NBC's Chuck Todd reported a fantastic, in hindsight, moment today detailing how the President found out about the Supreme Court health care decision.

It seems that for a few minutes, President Obama thought the health care law had actually been overturned. The President was watching the news come in on a tv outside the Oval Office, on mute, on a quad box channel that showed MSNBC, Fox News, CNN, and a fourth, mystery channel.

Since Fox and CNN had erroneous banners showing that the law had been overturned, President Obama walked back into the Oval Office, thinking Obamacare had been struck down. That is until White House Counsel Kathy Ruemmler walked in, gave him two thumbs up, and explained the decision.

    Hugs followed.

This could have made for the best "Punk'd" episode ever.

  • House of Rep. holds AG Eric Holder in contempt

The House of Representatives made history today by holding the first ever sitting Attorney General in contempt of Congress.

The House passed the resolution by a 255-67 vote to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress. The highly political resolution holds Holder in contempt for refusing to hand over documents related to the Fast And Furious gun walking operation.

A large group of House Democrats, including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, and Rep. James Clyburn, staged a walk out in protest before the vote. The vote breakdown included 17 Democrats voting in favor of the contempt citation and two Republicans voting against.

The contempt citation does not go to the Senate for passage. Instead, it goes to the US Attorney to convene a grand jury which will decide whether or not to indict Holder.

Attorney General Eric Holder issued a statement calling out political motives, saying that the vote to hold him in contempt "may make for good political theater in the minds of some, but it is - at base - both a crass effort and a grave disservice to the American people."

President Obama used executive privilege to avoid handing over Fast and Furious documents that Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. Darell Issa wanted to see. The White House held meetings earlier in the week with Rep. Issa and Speaker of the House John Boehner but they could not find common ground, hence the vote today.

  • Supreme Court upholds health care law

In a narrow 5-4 landmark ruling, the Supreme Court decided to uphold President Obama's domestic crowning achievement, the Affordable Care Act, more commonly known as Obamacare. Chief Justice John Roberts, the swing vote, ruled in favor of upholding the health care overhaul.

However, there were four questions surrounding the ACA challenge. The main focus was on the constitutionality of the individual mandate, which requires that the majority of Americans buy health insurance by 2014 or pay a penalty. The government argued that under the Commerce Clause, Congress can require everyone to purchase health insurance, because if they don't, the collective insured end up paying for it in the end...when the uninsured get hurt or sick.

Chief Justice John Roberts, along with Justices Kennedy, Scalia, Thomas, and Alito, all rejected that argument. However, the Chief Justice wrote the majority opinion, siding with the Obama administration, under the argument that the ACA is a tax, even though it doesn't fall under the Commerce Clause. This is ironic since the government argued during the hearings that the ACA was not a tax, but hey, they got what they wanted. Justices Ginsubrg, Ginsburg, Breyer, Sotomayor, and Kagan all agreed to uphold the mandate but for various reasons.

The Chief Justice believes that the mandate imposes a tax on those who do not buy health insurance and Congress has the power to tax that. Although the purpose of the tax is to have everyone buy health insurance and not raise money, Justice Roberts recognized the ACA as still a tax.

The ruling today drummed up conservative support to defeat President Obama in the 2012 race. During Mitt Romney's speech on the vote, he stated, "This is a time of choice for the American people. Our mission is clear: If we want to get rid of Obamacare, we're going to have replace President Obama."

The rally cry was heard; the Romney campaign has raised over one million dollars since the decision this morning, according to the campaign twitter account.
