The Last Word staff is celebrating our second birthday! Ice cream and cake all around.
This baby's come a long way since that first episode on September 27, 2010. If you remember, we were heading into the midterm elections and Christine (no relation) O’Donnell was running for office. During that inaugural show, Lawrence O’Donnell interviewed Vice President Joe Biden as our very first guest.
As we've gotten older, and, like, way more mature, this year we experimented with interviewing an empty chair. (Eastwooding before there was Eastwooding!)
Our fearless host also swapped his own seat at the anchor desk with Alec Baldwin, James Lipton and even our interns.
The election year gave us many Rewrites to be proud of and too many #batcrap crazy moments to count.
The Last Word viewers got more involved in the action, creating button designs for our official Off The Cliff contest and, even more dramatically, helping us raise nearly $4.5 million for the K.I.N.D. Fund, our joint program with UNICEF to supply desks to school children in Malawi.
You guys rock. On behalf of the whole staff, I want to thank you for watching the show and taking part of the discussion on the website, Facebook and Twitter. Let's keep it going for many more years to come.

There have been just so many awesome shows Lawrence. Has it been 2 years already?
I think the show that blew me away was when you had on Billy Graham's son,(Franklin?). You asked him if he was prepared to "give up everything" according to what Jesus commanded. Graham started speaking in tongues. Being the gentleman that you are, you didn't push, but let it stand for what it was.
I simply loved watching him squirm.
You were 100% correct.
The hypocrisy of these fake christian extremists angers and astounds me!
Happy Birthday and many, many more!!
You're not getting many answers because the question is too huge! There have been so many moments where you, Lawrence, have had great insights not shown on other shows. Also, the guts to say it like it is. My husband and I look forward to every "rewrite" and are never disappointed. Some of the great rewrites that I can think of off the bat were: Paul Ryan & Ayn Rand, Cost of the War on Drugs, Ryan's disrespect for Romney and the things Paul Ryan cannot say, and on and on. Thank you for bringing your hard hitting, classy style to political TV. Hope you continue for many more years.
laurence, you are pure class and i have a smile on my face watching your show. i look forward to it everynight and dread for friday to get here with lockup and not you! keep up the excellent work.
The way MSNBC is steadily sinking (and stinking it up) to its lowest depths in the ratings game of cable news and commentary networks I don't see much hope to make another year, especially in a post Obama and post Democrat control of the Senate that occurs post Nov. 6th.
Lawrence, you are pure class and i love your show and have a smile on the whole hour but i dread fridays when you arent on and lockup is....boo! congrats and keep up the good work.
I so agree with you, Kathy.
I'm horrified, I did not realize "Lawrence" was a catist. Depicting a feline with the words "Can I has cake now?" clearly is the equivalent of blackface. I am so disappointed.
Ha ha, happy anniversary to a crazy Irish redhead from another crazy irish (but not Catholic) redhead. Live long and prosper Larry!
Mr O'Donnell: Congratulations on two years but do you ever view your program after recording it? Do you notice how you are always talking down to us (your viewers) like a teacher instilling a lesson into the brains of dumb idiots? Why do you keep talking to us as if you know more? Why do you talk in a sharp-shooting manner as if we cannot understand what you are saying? I would love to keep watching you but, frankly, you get on my nerves!
It's because he genuinely thinks anyone who doesn't agree with his point of view is an idiot. Pretty much the last person on earth you'd want to have a beer with...
Congratulation Lawrence for your show 2 years strong. Thank you for a good show.
Happy Anniversary. You just keep getting better. Thanks for the wonderful Samuel L. Jackson.
Lawrence saw that photo of Romney in the sand and his blood must have been boiling knowing that it was a positive for the Romney campaign. So he just had to find a way to tear it apart. Honestly this show is just straight up propaganda. Maddow at least tries to make an argument but Lawrence clearly isn't as smart as she is. He's basically just shock-radio for the sheep.
"He's basically just shock-radio for the sheep." Hmmm, sounds like Rush Limbaugh.
Also, you introduced me to Stutz & Michels and The Tools. They seemed to have distilled the essentials to inner life into its essence. I'm grateful.
Lawrence, congratulations for the good work during this two last years of honest and courageous political journalism.I know that for bad politicians it is very hard to accept the true, therefore continue your program just exposing the true the way you do to convince those politicians that they are on the wrong occupation.
Congratulations, Lawrence, for two years of a "Don't Miss" show. My favorites were two episodes that I count as one: when Charles Blow and Johnathon Capepardt (with tie!!) interviewed George Zimmerman's friend John Oliver and when Zimmerman's attorney didn't show up and you interviewed an empty chair. Bother were devastating and, as the mother of two sons, rewarding to have those reporters demand answers to what happened to Treyvonn Martin.
The other one was from last night, September 27 when you referenced Senator Jim Webb's introduction of the president. Both of my sons are in the military. Two of my brothers, two of my brother-in-laws, my father and father-in-law served in the military. All would be considered part of the 47%. Knowing that before you played Senator Webb speaking did not arouse me as much as the pride I felt that others get vets are "owed!" That the senate republicans were so determined to undermine the president that they denied vets any type of assistance is shameful. Worse, Romney doesn't have any backbone to speak up. HE feels entitled to be Commander-in-Chief but doesNOT have respect for the troops! Just look into the eyes of a vet, then tell me if they are not "owed!" Someone took Romney's spot during Viet Nam while he enjoyed time spent on a French beach. Shame on him.
BTW, how can I contribute to FIND fund?
Lawrence, your program is the highlight of the day in our family. A few favorites:
Ryan ending his romance with his heroine and inspiration, Ayn Rand, because he did not know she was an atheist (!)
You read the Bible to the Fundamentalists to spotlight a few of their misquotes of it. It was hilarious. By the way, you should do this more often. The Catholics have so aptly pointed out that one cannot serve the philosophy of Ayn Rand and the philosophy of Jesus Christ at the same time.
But all of your programs are stellar. Agree with Kathy, you are pure class and don't you let anyone lesser ever discourage you.
