If you're a West Wing fan desperate for just one more episode with President Jed Bartlet, CJ, and the rest of the crew, today is your lucky day. A handful of actors from the Emmy award-winning TV series reprised their roles in a campaign ad for the sister of Mary McCormack, a.k.a Deputy National Security advisor Kate Harper.
Bridget Mary McCormack is running for Michigan state Supreme Court. In a sketch littered with inside jokes, The West Wing team came together to bring attention to the not-so-sexy issue of filling out the non-partisan section of the voting ballot. This is how Michigan and 14 other states select their supreme court justices. As Bradley Whitford, who reprised his role as Josh Lyman, explains, “In non-partisan elections all across America, voters are leaving part of their ballot blank. And they don’t even know it.”
So who is Bridget Mary McCormack? According to the ad, she's a "married mother of four, dean at Michigan law. Bridget has spent her entire career fighting for justice for ordinary people for families with sick kids. For families of domestic violence. She's fought to free innocent men and women and get the actual criminals behind bars."
And in a TV-turned-reality twist, McCormack's husband, Steve Croley, currently works in the real West Wing as deputy counsel in the White House Counsel's Office.
While voting for Supreme Court justices may not be particularly racy, it is important. In fact, state Supreme Courts' decisions could influence the general election. Just this week, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled on the state's voter ID law, sending it back to a lower court to ensure that all voters can get an ID by November 6.

I do miss The West Wing. It was what TV has always strived to be. Quick, smart, funny and entertaining.
i loved the west wing id give anything to see it back on syndication! the best political show that there ever was on t.v.
just finished reruns in au my daughter is going through withdrawal
Obvious distraction attempt with this non consequential post topic, rather than an economics related post on how just this past week another dismal high number (382,000) new unemployment insurance claims were presented showing the continued downward slide of our economy. Or the fact that the Obama administration has had to begrudgingly admit tat our ambassador in Libya was targetted in a planned and well carried out terrorist attack, and that the Cairo, Egypt assault on our embassy was also likely to have been manufactured by hard-line Islamic fundamentalists, both occurring on the 11th anniversary of 9/11 withour this administration having taking adequate safeguarding precautions, although all the warnings had been well known.
You're free to ignore this stuff Fuzzy; I'm not paying a lot of attention because I'm not a big fan of train wrecks, and that's what Mitt-for-brain's campaign has become....
I'm just about to watch the Mormon Lawrence is going to interview who's decided Romney shouldn't be the face of the LDS Church... I'll fact check him, of course, but there are a few who have learned to think for themselves.
Keith, here's a consequential topic for you...Republican senators just blocked a $1 billion job program bill (that was paid for) putting veterans back to work. What could possibly have motivated them to block the bi-partisan bill when 4 Republicans actually wrote part of it? I wonder if that might have affected the unemployment numbers. Oh well, our veterans are just part of the useless 47% and one of them commits suicide every 80 minutes anyway. Welcome to the new Republican mindset. What a stunning example of their indifference and amorality. This same group have the temerity to claim they represent Americans. And you're worried about the Islamic fundamentalists? Sounds like you're the one engaging in distractions.
As I understood the minority in the Senate's argument against the bill it was that the basis of the funding was was fradulent...another smoke and mirrors attempt at claiming the bill's cost was paid for when it was in fact just taking deficit financing from one program and moving it to this program, like an old fashioned shell game.
When we come to realize that the deficit spending for social programs like the massive extension of food stamps, and Medicaid expansion, and fuel assistance due in part to the rising cost of energy resulting from the chosen path by this administration of warring on the cheapest and most abundant source of electricity production (coal), and the kiting higher price of home heating oil for the Fall, Winter, and Spring season ahead of us due to the stopping of the progress of two new refineries (1st in over 30 years) that has been held up by this administration, as they cut back by 15% of the oil exploration and production permits on federal lands and offshore areas that come under their control. Just as a few examples of where those $1.2 Trillion dollars of deficit spending each year now go to.
Keith, more faux outrage over deficit paranoia .. but only while Obama is President. So stopping a a mere $1B bill (that is paid for!) to help find jobs for heroes who BECAME VETERANS because of wars costing $Trillions that WERE NOT paid for somehow makes moral/logical/arithmetic sense to you. Go figure!
Keith - you Republicans just don't get it - your "representatives" keep blocking ANY jobs bill that is proposed - why? They DON'T WANT UNEMPLOYMENT TO GO DOWN before the election! How cynical and disgusting is that?!!!! They care more about defeating President Obama then they do about the unemployed! And to block a jobs bill for Veterans?!!!!! How can that not be the last straw for you people? Do you hate the fact that a man with a different skin color is President that much?
Pathetic!!!!!
Keith - you've already exposed who you are. Why not go to the mirror and take a good, long look into your eyes? See if you can find a glimmer of humanity there or a soul.....if you ever had one.
President Bartlett ends with "So it is written so it is done" Great quote of Ramesis in The Ten Commandments. West Wing got me through the first six years of the Bush Administration. Best written show of all time. Where's President-elect Santos and Sam? Where's the movie? I was born in the same town as John Spencer (Leo) RIP. Check out Sports Illustrated archives Romney-Salt Lake Olympics. As Toby would say "It's a thing."
President Bartlett quotes Ramesis from the Ten Commandments. "Let it be written, let it be done." Best written show of all time. My favorite, got me through the first six years of the Bush Administration. Where's President-elect Santos and Sam? Where's the movie? Check out Sports Illustrated archives Romney/ Salt Lake Olympics, December 9, 2001 Snow Job article for real October Surprise. As Toby Ziegler would say "It's a thing."
Please excuse the repeat.
Read what Dr. Gregory Prince wrote in the Huffington Post about Mitt Romneey "Mitt Romney is Not the Face of Mormonism!"
We don't see much in the way of video spots for Supreme Court Judges in New York State, all-star cast or not --
Meanwhile, President Jed Bartlet now looks older than his father ??
Brilliant!
Oh, is it Apocalypse now?
I so miss The West Wing~ I watched all eight years of the show.
And I always said "How I wish what was on the screen was in The White House"
As you can surmise, I'm a Democrat.
I support President Obama and I'm going to be voting for him in November.
Wish that the series would be replayed and I also was sad to see that they
never did a show addressing Jeb's best friend's passing.
It was a great show. But the NEW show to watch (HB0) is The News Room. It's season is over now, but watch for it next season, it was just great! It is what the news media used to be and should be again....giving us real facts, complete stories, not the pap, laughter and chat and vapid discussion and so partisanly obvious that we get today! I read that other networks were astounded by its success and rather put off by the reflection of news we get today in comparison. A lot of blame goes to Fox (and now the WSJournal, with Murdoch the new owner) but really, the major networks are owned by 5 corporate giants where 80%+ of everything we see, hear or read comes from. As an old almost hippie, I am astounded at the fine reporting done today in Rolling Stone and Mother Jones magazines on politics, the economy and the state of the nation-who'd though!!!!! Great article, well researched in the Sept. 19th edition of Rolling Stone on how Robme made his money. Look forward to reading what others think of it.
Loved Sports Night, West Wing, The American President, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, and now Newsroom. Sorkin is brilliant. Thankfully, they all live on through DVD. Want to discuss it, come with me we'll walk and talk.
Yes, and the movie made by HBO of Sorkin's book, Game Change, is up for 11 Emmy's! Hope it wins them all!
I was glad that I didn't miss the West Wing article being from Michigan. I hope this is on again and again. I and my husband stand with Obama and did last time also.
