After an impromptu press conference trying to explain away/rationalize a video filmed surreptitiously of him at a private fundraiser, Mitt Romney faces a new day of criticism for his statements about 47 percent of the American electorate. Here are some more stories we discussed at The Last Word rundown meeting today:
- Criticism follows Romney’s blunt comments captured on video
- Mitt Romney, man of constant sorrow
- White House: Being president means representing 'all people'
- New poll: Obama up 8 points over Romney in Virginia
- Christine (no relation) O'Donnell considers 2014 Senate rematch
- An American Muslim on 'Muslim Rage'
- How the Romney video leaked: For Carter's grandson, it was personal

Mitt Romney wants to liquidate the poor AND increase self deportation for fund and profit.
Lets connect the dots.
Paul Krugman - our most knowledgable economist - stated republicans will not solve our economic problems and may make things worse.
Declining consumer demand is our problem and liquidating the poor will not help. The poor are out best consumers because all their income is spent on consumer goods (vehicles, fuel, rent, food, ...).
Taxing the rich does not harm the economy and has helped the economy in the past (click here).
At least 1.7 million immigrants left the US between 2006 and 2010. That reduced consumer demand.
Loss of millions of immigrants reduced consumer demand by billions of dollars, starting with abandoned housing and vehicles that began in 2006.
Bush shifted the funding for post-911 enforcement to immigrants by raising documentation fees from about $100 to over $1,000 for immigrants that pick our fruits and vegetables.
Immigrants can earn as much as $200 per month at $0.10/pound, so the new $1,000 fee is unaffordable. That creates "illegal immigrants".
The Real ID Act of 2005 prohibits immigrants from obtaining drivers licenses and makes unlicensed driving a deportable offense for poor immigrants that cannot afford to pay for US border security.
The response by police has been to auction vehicles in order to profit from immigrants that cannot afford to pay for post-911 US border security, which earned $40 million for California in 2009. Each unlicensed driver charged with a crime becomes subject to deportation and must leave the country voluntarily to avoid incarceration.
A related outcome is that food prices rose as soon as immigrant labor shortages impacted US farming because a statistically insignificant number of US citizens work picking fruit and vegetables.
Christine O'Donnell isn't me now, or as I used to be, no matter what she says. Gobama!
Republicans know the real problem with America is that poor people are just too darn greedy. :]
Mitt (the Flip) Romney has for a long time reminded me of a spoiled rich boy demanding his turn not because he earned it but because his daddy made him rich only now the reality we are seeing is a 60 something year old spoiled rich man still demanding his turn with the title because yes his Daddy made him rich.
What I keep hearing from republicans is that everyone in America should be business owners in order to be considered a responsible contributing citizen; as if the everyday man/woman going to an honest days work is disgraceful.
Well here's the truth Repubs - The question the that We the People should be asking is how successful would people like Mitt(the Flip) Romney, Donald(the Quack) Trump and Lying Paul Ryan, and others like them be without those people that they secretly yet publicly look down on. You know the ones that actually make their companies run, the people that actually do the work with their hands on the plow churning out product, bringing in customers yes the things that really make a company successful.
I would like to see Romney& friends do the hands on jobs that keeps these big and small companies running ie Customer Service reps, assembly, janitorial, supervisory, sales and so much more. How far would they get? How successful would they be? If they had to work like every day honorable men and women with their hands and their hearts knowing that their financial future wasn't and won't be handed to them or their children
Everyone is and should not be an entrepreneur. Everyone is not and should not be looking for avoid taxes. It is Just not American.
RE: Romney Video. You guys missed the point; Romney’s comment about post-election
capital investment suggests his buddies are now restricting investment & employment prior to the election.
Romney Video: Everyone is missing a big point; Romney's statement about increased capital investment post-election suggests his wealthy buddies are restricting investment and employment prior to the election. Does anyone doubt they WANT the economy to fail?
I don't have any doubt that you are right about the game Romney and those in his circle are playing. These people seem willing to sink the ship in order to drown the captain; Just because many of them don't like the uniform he comes with.
So even before President Obama's very first day we have seen this manufactured stream of outrage, scatter-shot malicious traducement of the President and blatant progress blocking.
I am a Canadian and was curious to know what all the commotion was about this secret tape, so I watched your program for the first time in my life tonight (The Last Word). I am not going to comment on who should be president, you Americans can decide that for yourself. What shocked me was the implication that Americans are not hard working. After more than 50 years of traveling in your country I think Americans are the hardest working nation on the planet. It seemed to premeate the entire tape that Americans were lazy and looking for some free ride, this is not the America that I know.
I agree
Romney doesn't seem to have gathered his thoughts on the major national/international issues over the years. He's trying to bluff his way through. He seems addled. Perhaps that is why the GOP was so cool to Romney. Perhaps GOP big shots sensed he was not necessarily copacetic. The thing Romney does have in common with average folks is that he's definetely not Presidential. He's rich and successful and intelligent and dishonest, and manipulative, and common, and addled, and unPresidential. He's a Presidential poser, he's an imposter. He's a stand in for a real Republican Presidential candidate .... who still doesn't seem to exist.
It's come to the point with Romney....that the expectation of hearing him speak........can lead to premature exasperation. [ha]
Recent reports point to the fact that people living at or near the poverty level in the United States have a higher standard of living than do employed peopled in the Middle Class in Europe.
The mushrooming of deficit spending for social programs under this Administration has brought the number of people in our country that are receiving some form of federal assitance as over 50% of the population. And when we bemoan, and rightly, the number of people now at or below the poverty level, we must realize that is due to failed economic policies, but also realize the $987 a month in various and sundry federal and state assistance programs provided to the "needy" is not counted against the income of these people that puts them at or below the poverty line, so that they are, in fact, doing extremely well in life vs. a vs. the employed Middle Class in Europe.
