Countless numbers of U.S. State Department employees around the world put themselves in harm's way every day. Today brought a deadly reminder of just how important and dangerous that work can be. But for some Republicans, the contribution and service to our country from these heroes is something to mock or denigrate.
That's not the case when it comes to Sen. John McCain. As Lawrence O'Donnell explored in his latest Rewrite, the Arizona senator demonstrated the proper way to react to the deadly attack on American officials.

Senator McCain, good job today, keep an even keel and this country of ours has the potential to go far. Detach your self from the right wing radicals whose only goal is to tear America to shreds by spewing hate and lies.
McCain is a good man.
Senator McCain - you did an excellent job today describing to the American people what and why this attack occurred. Natalie, shame on you for continuing to interrupt a man of John McCain's knowledge and experience to ask questions before givinig him a chance to complete his answers. You need to learn to LISTEN to the person you are interviewing and not interupt them while they are answering you. SHAME SHAME SHAME on you! I was very disappointed to hear you running your mouth when I was trying to listen to Senator McCain. You are a beautiful lady but you need to go back to Class 101 in interviewing. I am very disappointed in the Today Show for putting you in such a high position in place of a very experienced woman - which you have shown you are not.
I only hope people really listen to what John McCain had to say about our current leadership. Obama is a wienie - he shows no backbone and no strength. This has absolutely nothing to do with being a Democrat because our Presidents have always shown strength - whether they are Dem or Rep. This man is not a leader - he has shown weakness and we are now paying the price for what he has demonstrated to other countries. The American people need to remove the Dem/Rep factor from this Presidential race and vote for what is best for America. I will not go into what I think of him as a person but he was not qualified to be President of our country. His only claim to fame was a community organizer. It amazes me why he was not properly vetted before being nominated as the Dem candidate. People may be tired of politicians but putting a total novice in the White House was a very bad idea. All who voted for this man had a hand in other countries now raising up in arms against us.
Sorry, but the wienie is McCain. He was "Swiftboated" himself with that Karl Rove tactic in '00, and then went along with the Cheney Administration to secure the nomination in 2008 (after Bush 43 had so poisoned the well that an solid Democrat was a sure winner). He was a huge champion of campaign finance reform for a time, but he sold out.
Study McCain's "claim to fame," and other than the POW time, there isn't much admirable either. He was admitted to the Naval Academy as a "child of privilege," was involved in a horrible crash that led to the horror of the U.S.S. Forrestal...
And afterwards as a senator, he was linked to the Keating Five scandal....
Turnabout is fair play, Talking Oinker®...
(cue up Bob Dylan, Like a Rolling Stone.... Ah! How does it feel!)
I found his statements to be very troubling and disrespectful not only to the president but also to the families of these four Americans. Wake up Mitt you are not president and gOD Help us all if you get elected because you have shown this country exactly what you are.
Thank heaven's for Hillary Clinton. It is perfectly evident this AM after the spread of rioting and assaults against our Embassy's compounds in Egypt continued, and began in Yehmen yesterday, while Obama was off campaigning and fund raising on his Rockey Mountain States swing (missing in action), Hillary holds the fort in Washinton, DC while Obama fund raises and campaigns in Colorado today, after finishing up his political mission to Las Vegas last night socializing with Hollywood celebrities.
However, in her statement this morning at 1020AM the Secretary of state launched into a long, carefully scripted speech pandering to the faked outrage of the Muslim protesters, who had very little to say about a scurrilously produced and distributed film that denigrates the prophet Mohammad and the Muslim religion, Islam, which had been circulating on social media since July. She made no attempt to link the issues now of the powder keg in the Middle East to the fermenting by Islamist extremists, on the anniversary of 9/11. And in his one public appearance yesterday morning, Obama, standing in the Rose Garden, before boarding Air Force One to get off to his fund raising and campaigning in Nevada, spole only to the assignation of our Ambassador and 3 other American foreign affairs officials in Libya, and did not mention at all the storming of our embassey in Cairo, or warn the Egyptian Government or any other government in the Middle East to live up to their responsibility of providing protection to Western democracies and especially our dignitaries, citizens, and property.
Grandpa, why no mention of the "Christian Conspiracy" behind the phony film that inflamed the Muslims already living in a tinderbox?
I mean, you're a big critic of religous bigotry, aren't you? And we know you love conspiracies...

NPR's library did not turn up any footprint for Bacile. It found no property, phone, licenses or court records. And Bacile had not made news until today.
And while you're singing Hillary's praises (we know; you'll smear her next week), you ought to at least give the President credit for hiring her...
I didn't make the "D" grade film that hasn't even been released to my information. Apparently on YouTube, one can find a trailer for the film only. And that, titled "The Innocence of the Muslims" had been out and viewable since July, for two months without incidents before the anniversary of 9/11 and Al Qaeda's #1 terrorist leader issued a video of his own Monday calling for Islamists jihadists to attack Americans as revenge for the drone killing of his deputy.
Suzzane Malvaux of CNN seems to be the only journalist with the good sense to ask what is the composition of these rioting crowds in Cairo, and now Yemen and Tunisia. Who are rioters, and what is their goal, what do they want? Who are the young men with no jobs that are so angry they are fighting with rocks and Molotov cocktails the Egyptian police, and the police in Yemen and Tunisia? And how did the armed attack on our Ambassador and his staff in Libya that resulted with four Americans killed as directed by Al Qaeda's #1 as revenge for the drone killing of that terrorist organization's #2 man (a Libyan) differ from the ginned up by hard-line fundamentalist crowds with gripes against their own government as well those of the US and Western nations? All very good questions, and if Obama would just get off the campaign and fund raising trail and hold a press conference, maybe the media might get around to asking those questions of our President? Then again, maybe not?
Thanks for modeling that self-centeredness for any students watching this. Nobody is accusing you of making the film; my question is why haven't you mentioned it? That was what inflamed the demonstrations in the Middle East, and it's now being traced to an Egyptian-born ex-convict who is a Coptic Christian (I'm guessing you'll have to look that one up, given that howler you tossed about Walter Raleigh).
According to the reporters in the field now in Cairo these are the same 16 to 25 in age shiftless youth whose lives are going no where fast, who show up for all the street demonstrations, and do battle with the police. They aren't throwing rocks and Molotov cocktails at the US embassy, and reportedly their chants and shouted slogans are those challenging their own fragile government in Egypt, and the police who are attempting to contain them on the streets. The manufactured "outrage" over a 14 minute trailer on YouTube, ginned up by the hard-line Islamists fundametnalists has already run its course, and from here on out it is strictly mobs bent on violence for violence's sake. Get a grip Cab Driver; stop sucking up the poisioned pap spewed out by the Democrat Party operatives that call themselves political commentators, start watching CNN (certainly no right wing media outlet), and learn what is really going down in the Middle East, courtesy of Obama's unique style of "leading from behind!"
This attack and what is going on right now is due to a U Tube video of a poorly made film financed by a conservative right wingnut that is offensive to Muslims. As we have learned the radicals will leap on any excuse to attack the US. They believe our government actually funds these fringe elements with their religious bigotry and the attacks these nut jobs make on the Muslim religion.
However, Mr. McKain did not want to trouble himself with the facts but to seize the opportunity to attack our President at a time when we need to stand together. Once he made his inflammatory comments - he Smirked. He actually smirked. Let's remember the goal of the Republicans as announced by 2 of their Leadership 3 years ago was to "destroy the President".. Today, Mr McKain carried that threat to the max and in this old lady's mind, he committed an act of providing aid and comfort to our enemies.
Sort of the aid and comfort that Obama gave to the enemy in 2007/2008 when we were involved in critical points of the War in Iraq, with American troops lives and bodily safety on the line, Olde Blonde Broad? Didn't hear the liberal media criticizing Obama then for his anti-Iraq War votes in Congress for funds to support our troops in the field, or his campaigning against the war. The partianship ends at our shorlines argument the liberals and their media are throwing out against Gov. Romney now for criticising the Presidents handling of this sensitive area of the World and by extension, his diplomats in Cairo, Egypt that were apologizing for something that the government of the US was not responsible for (our national principles do say that the government of the United States will not restict the expression of speech). But you never heard that thrown out against Obama when he was all up an anti War on Terror, and not backing our troops or our President during the prosecution of a very hot war, did you Olde Blonde Broad?
BTW, the same liberal media that was all over Romney for supposed gaffes on his England, Isral, and Poland trip this past summer, is strangely silent when Obama just made one of the most incredible gaffes of all time describing in a national aired interview that Egypt is no longer considered an ally of ours, although not quite an enemy...sort of delegating it to a nomans land in diplomatic talk. At the same time we are ponying up $2 billion plus in diplomatic and military aide to this once trusted Muslim govenment, and cooperating neighbor with Israel? That was one of the most incredibly amateurish statements I've heard this amateur President make...and we will pay a price for it before the promise of the Arab Spring becomes the Dissapointment of the Arab Democracy movement Fall ahead of us.
Seems that the State Department had to issue a hurried statement yesterday reassuring that Egypt, that gets $2 billion in diplomatic and military aide from the US taxpayers, is considered still an ally of the United States. I guess that would mean that in the midst of this crisis which is the direct result of the Obama withdrawal and reticence on involvement with the Muslim world's promising Arab Spring with his "lead for behind" policy is clueless on his govenment's own foreign affairs. And that his statement that "Egypt is not an ally of ours, and not an enemy" was a GAFFE of major proportions. But you won't hear the liberal media taking him to task for that. Oh no, not their Golden Boy!
And I see that CNN and Fox News and Bloomberg News is focusing now on the fact that these riots and pitched battles with the fledgling young democratically governments in the Middle East and Western Asia are the result of ginning up by radical fundamentalist jihadists for the purposes of their obtaining power in those nations, and not the existence of a 14 minute trailer for a blasphemous film that most in the Muslim world have not even seen, but have heard rumors only about. And yet Jay Carney, Obama's press secretary is still professing that is the underlying cause of these 16 to 25 year old unemployed and disaffected youth that show up for every public demonstration with their rocks and Molotov cocktails ready to do battle with their government being pitched in battle with police forces and military throughout the Muslim world all week of the aniversary of 9/11, carrying their posters of Osama Bin Ladan. Get a clue!
