Eastwooding at its best.
A lot of people loved it, a lot of people hated it, and a lot of people (including Rachel Maddow) just didn't know what to think after Clint Eastwood talked to an empty chair at the Republican National Convention.
Mitt Romney thought it was funny.
Paul Miller, the reporter for Eastwood's local paper The Carmel Pine Cone, told our MSNBC colleague Alex Witt that Eastwood himself considered his speech "mission accomplished."
And clearly some Republicans agree with Eastwood's assessment because more and more Republicans are starting to talk to inanimate objects.
Take this recent RNC ad in which a woman breaks up with a cardboard cutout of President Obama.
There's also this ad from Republican congressional candidate Rabbi Shmuley Boteach who's running against Rep. Bill Pascrell, a Democrat from New Jersey. In the ad, Rabbi Boteach talks to an empty suit meant to represent his opponent.
This makes me feel a lot less strange for talking so much to my cat.

I like the empty suit approach for the villian of the skits standin, but the Eastwood skit with the empty chair was very affective as it showed that our present wouldbe emperor really does have no clothes. And that it is quite alright to make fun of him for it! "Mission Accomplished" indeed.
Romney really mismanaged the 2012 RNC, he succeeded in losing the election and destroying Clint Eastwood’s stellar career in 72 hours lol
Washington Post/ABC poll of likely voters shows a post conventions statistical deadheat, Obama 49%, Romney 48%, SpoAct. He who laughs last, laughs best, and the people of the US of A are still laughing at the Eastwood skit that showed that this amatuer President is a joke, and it is alright to laugh at him.
I watched Clint's speech and I watched Clinton's speech. Here's the difference between the two. Like most Republicans, Clint is speaking to an empty chair while Clinton spoke to 315 million Americans.
I watched Clint's speech with the empty chair and thought it was funny.
I've watched President Obama speaking to empty heads for nearly 4 years and never thought that it was funny.
you are right Gerry! :-)
yeah, the president's a joke and your people are talking to furniture. mitt romney is the joke. that dude's like a cartoon character!
