The Obama campaign slogan, which appeared on thousands of waving posters at the DNC last week, reads simply: Forward. In virtually every stump speech since appearing on the national scene four years ago, President Obama has aimed to present a stark contrast between the policies of his predecessor, George W. Bush, and his own plan for moving the nation out of fiscal calamity and into the vanguard of a global and technological economy. In other words, the president's message is to move "forward." Here's a short excerpt from Obama's nominating speech in Charlotte:
"After all that we've been through, I don't believe that rolling back regulations on Wall Street will help the small businesswoman expand, or the laid-off construction worker keep his home. We've been there, we've tried that, and we're not going back. We're moving forward."
"Forward" seems a fitting slogan. Non-controversial, as far as slogans go.
Florida Congressman Allen Wes, however, sees a deeper meaning. Speaking to the Republican Jewish Coalition last Sunday, West said:
"We are now $16 trillion in debt. We have 47 million Americans on food stamps. We have close to 9.5 million more Americans in three-and-a-half years on the poverty rolls. That’s not turning the corner...But yet, they want to bring out an old Soviet Union, Marxist-Socialist theme for their campaign called “Forward.”
West may be referring to a publication founded by V.I. Lenin called, "Vpered," the Russian word for "forward." Or to a handful of propaganda posters and Soviet manuscripts, some of which All American Blogger has dutifully collected here. Never mind the fact that "Forward" has been Wisconsin's motto since 1851, more than sixty years before the creation of the Soviet Union. And never mind that Americans have a predominately negative view of socialism, according to a Pew poll from last year, which would make using a poster recalling Soviet Russia terrible campaign strategy.
Maybe the Obama campaign thought they were playing it safe with a concise slogan like "Forward." Maybe this proves a new adage: everything is innocuous until Allen West figures out why it's socialist.

It is time to stop
wasting our breath by asking the "Republicans" in congress to
cooperate on behalf of the American people. There are no longer any Republicans
available to ask. The Republican Party is DEAD! Left in its stead is an amoral

I agree that we need to think, but some are not able to think. The nurons in their minds are stuck. I see it every Sunday at church. I think it is offensive to God to bring politics into the pulpit. They are using God to advance their agenda just like the scribes and pharasees whom Jesus said, "If you are not better than them, you shall not enter the kingdom of God." Like the Old Testament, they consider women as property and if raped they shall be stoned to death.
The Democratic National Convention opened with a film which boldly professed "We all BELONG to the government", and then promptly had to acknowledge that earlier that day the national debt went to over $16 Trillion dollars. On the 2nd day of their convention, a very significant portion of the Democrats were seen on national TV to be raining boos down on GOD. And on the last day, minus the big crowd in the big stadium, and minus the fake Doric Greek Columns of 2008 and artificial smoke, coronated their Party's leading Nationalist Socialist Barrack Hussein Obama as their candidate for re-election to the Presidency of the once proud and strong US of A.
Forward for the Democrat Party means more Government confiscation of the fruits of it's citizen's business and investment efforts and labor so that the ever growing number of bureaucrats in Big Government can expand their concept of government control of our industries. All in the name of providing cradle to grave security. Of course, with their signature main issue of the provision of free contraceptives, surgical sterilization, and abortions thru control of our nations health insurance industry, it is exceedingly difficult to get to the cradle if you threaten to be conceived and born into this godless, socialist vision of what America should be.
I took a nap this afternoon, and when I awoke, I recalled a dream that I had which was that I would wake up, like a modern day Rip Van Winkle, long after the 2012 election, to find that much to my surprise the internet was only available if I presented my debit card for the substantial monthly fees to be assessed. And when I did that, received goverbment internet approval and clearance, and logged in to catch up with the survivors of this blog, Last Word, I found that half my liberal friends here had gone missing. And strangely, of those few people still participating on this blog, there didn't seem to be any newcomers. Wonder why that was?

Of course Eyes Wide Open may have gone off to have a beer in celebration of the new poll numbers and the Obama fundraising success... If he did, I hope he has an extra one for me, and I'd be happy to arrange a cab ride if he over-indulges...
As for that bit of pissive-aggressiveness with the "friends" designation, you're like all narcissists who can't get used to the fact there are people who genuinely loathe them... We've got a few too many of those in the business here locally, and I confess, I sometimes take my frustrations with them out on you...

Fees are much fairer, for they make the users of services pay for those services; when we drive on a toll road, or ask for a license to sell liquor, wine, and beer, we are the user of the service. Taxing the shoe clerk in Providence, RI to make agriculture subsidies to the big wheat growers agribusiness of the Kansas/Nebraska/South and North Dakota, for example, is confiscation by the government, pure an simple. And Romney did cut the surtax on the state income tax that had been in place since Mike Dukakis's Govronor days in the 80s. I was a resident of Massachusetts, and other than a hunting/fishing license, handgun carry permit, a drivers license, and registration of an automobile, and the occasional trip on the Massachusetts Turnpike, I paid no fees, and certainly no excessive fees, and got good service and use out of what I paid those fees for, joca. But thanks to the 87% spending happy Democrat controlled legislature before Romney showed up, I sure paid some heafty sales and income taxes, besides local real estate taxes in my times as a resident of Taxachusetts in the 70s to late 80s, and the mid 90s to mid 2000s, joca.

As to the Cab Driver, one snowflake does not a winter make. The nation's voters, let alone the media, have yet to focus on the three key issues of this election: 1) the dismal state of the economy, 2) the persistantly high unemployment rate, and 3) the dangerous level of our national debt and continued seeming uncontrollable deficit spending, all under this Democrat Administration and Senate control. Post conventions, and after the silly period of the summers "war on women, and war on Romney's character, augmented with a little nasty race-baiting attempts on the part of the beleaguered Democrat Party and failed President/Vice President, we are now just getting down to the business of this campaign. And the business of this campaign is very much the need to improve, not continue to attack, our nation's business sector. And that is where by anyone's margins, Romney is leading Obama in the polls...all polls as the man with the paln and the background of success that can best handle the problems of our economy, employment, and national debt.

As a "Recovering Republican" I'm inclined to be a bit more charitable although your description of "the process" is probably accurate.

Most Funeral Parlor owners are small business Republicans, and there are more registered Democrats and then Republicans or Independents (and the Democrat Party has been known to unearth the dead and vote them in the election, making the need to reinter those bodies) so of course, you are probably right Adam. Rebublican's just want to see Democrats dead (and hopefully remain burried for this election, at least). By golly, for once, Alan West is correct: the word "forward" was used in a Socialist context. So what? Socialism is dead world-wide, having suffered from infant mortality as early as the 1920s. It was quickly supplanted by vulture capitalist dictatorships, even in Russia and China. Only the guise of Socialism remained intact. China's "Great Leap Forward" was merely a euphemism for killing off excess peasants who were costing Mao more than they could produce or sell -- you know, eating into profits.
A capitalist is no more than a socialist with change in his pocket.
