Never known for flying off the handle or overreacting in public ever in the history of ever, mild-mannered Illinois Republican Rep. Joe Walsh has a message for women's health advocate Sandra Fluke: "Get a job!"
Rep. Walsh, who was speaking with constituents on Saturday while sitting on top of a restaurant booth, said, "Think about this, a 31-32 year old law student who has been a student for life, who gets up there in front of a national audience and tells the American people, ‘I want America to pay for my contraceptives.’ You’re kidding me. Go get a job. Go get a job Sandra Fluke... That was embarrassing."
Reactions to Sandra Fluke's DNC speech from some conservatives have been this bad, or even worse. So bad, actually, that Republican author and Newsweek/Daily Beast contributing editor David Frum wrote today that those on his side of the political divide are free to disagree with Fluke, but need to make their arguments "without hurling accusations of nymphomania, freeloading and sexual exhibitionism."
Hear, hear.
ht Salon and Talking Points Memo

But Sandra Fluke was talking about insurance covering the cost of contraception.... insurance.
Exactly! Health insurance for which she pays premiums! This guy is a loon!
And federally subsidized health insurance of pricey premiums for its deduction and co-pay free provision of free oral contraceptives, surgical sterialization procedures, and abortions mandated by ObamaCare, and any arguing against that is simply coming from those that would force Women back into "the Dark Ages" (which apparently were back about 6 months ago before the Secretary of Health and Human Services announced her regulations from her assumed powers under ObamaCare), Lisa.
Seems by the gospel according to Saint Sandra, Women's Rights are cradle to grave in scope. Of course, getting to the cradle is the tough part under this anti-Life political party with its extreme agendas.
The ACA does not mandate abortions. Sandra Fluke unlike yourself pays for her insurance thus this is a valuable service that should be provided. Women have been fired for getting pregnant while they are trying to hold down a job.
Your being misleading and disingenuous. Your not paying for her birth control this is not welfare.
Isn't this the SAME deadbeat dad who owes hundreds of thousands in BACK child support.. ;][? Anyhoo, goper;s still as pa thet ic as ever by either name calling out right condescending to people telling them to get jobs or simply dismissing those whom they cannot argue with on any level of equality. ;] I suppose they just love being blind and being led by those who also are blind..
This is the party who love the SLOW Rush Limbaugh who states in his show yesterday " we are NOT voting FOR Romney, we are voting AGAINST Obama.. So inspiring. If they don't care who leads them as President who is REALLY leading them? Are they that stupid and ignorant? Or are they that deceptive and devious? Hmmm. Indeed. ;]
My good friend B has already won he knows it I know it and now YOU know it. The gopers are done for good as I have foretold.
Cheers
Cheers
I paid for my Medicare years in advance (and I pay premiums for it now) and I pay premiums, copay, and deductions for my private prescription coverage, and I pay premiums for my private supplemental health insurance policy, besides deductions and co-pays, the same insurance company that will be mandated to provide co-pay and deduction free oral contraceptives, surgical sterializations, and abortions on demand by women under ObamaCare. Who do you think those insurance companies will be after to make up for that cost, other than men, and women outside of child bearing age, Ethellouise. Don't tell me I won't pay part of the price for Sandra's oral contraceptives. That's cooked into the equation, of course! The very reason why ObamaCare uses the taxing power of the Federal Government to enforce their mandates for individuals to have insurance polocies from those same companies that are making all those expanded services, and targeted group free services available, I hope you realize, is to spread the burden of the cost to others.
The same way the rest of us pay higher premiums to cover the elderly. Duh.
It is a mind set. They still think that women are property and should be stoned if raped as stated in the old testament. They have sgined on to the terrible way women were treated in the old testament. Did you know that in Deutoronomy it says that a man before entering a congregation his genital had to be check to see if the gentials are damaged. I wonder who checked the genitals and what it meant to be damaged. If it is up to some of these men, they may want to check the women's vagina before they enter a church. Every day I thank God for what my grandfather taught me: "Always respect other people, especially women and children." I believe I have done that to the best of my ability.
Sandra Fluke is the resurrection of Edith Bunker...a dingbat. Maybe she needs to purchase a Sunbeam Screwmaster...think that will make her happy
She said nothing about anyone paying for her contraceptives at The DNC.
Joe Walsh, who had to be sued to pay support for his children, needs to get a job,
a life, a conscience and a muzzle.
this from a deadbeat dad please pay your chid support loser
Read my comment above.
"Republican author & Newsweek/Daily Beast contributing editor David Frum wrote today that those on his side of the political divide are free to disagree with Fluke, but need to make their arguments ""without hurling accusations of nymphomania, freeloading and sexual exhibitionism."" " @nick_ramsey
Even David Frum makes the error of believing that the crazies have a point but chose not to make it; they can be sane but chose to tear their clothing; they must love to live but chose to commit suicide. David Frum lives in a pitiful reality that is only rationalizeable by a religion-type unquestioning faith in the values of a group of bigots that constantly disappoint him.
God is the source of FAITH and REASON. Faith without reason is blind faith which is dangerous and poisens everything. However, Faith and Reason are like two currents of a river that at first seem to fight each other, but then form a continuous flow. I hope that the Uterus will decide who will win this election.
Walsh is a dead beat dad whose the one who needs to get a job and pay his back child support. He hasn't done a thing for our country or for Illinois. Every time you see him he's sitting around in a bar or dinner trying to out shout everyone else having temper tantrums like a little child. He's a coke induced narcissistic a$$ and nothing less. Sandra Fluke did a great job speaking at the DNC. What did Walsh do for the RNC. And he's the rep. of a state. What a joke he is.
PERHAPS our government, of this far over populated country, should HAND CONDOMS OUT ON EVERY STREET CORNER!!! If you don't want people having abortions of unwanted babies, because it SOMEHOW has something to do with you, then perhaps you should encourage the use of contraceptives. What a ridiculous thing to speak about in a restaurant. How about you speak about what values you have and what yoru political views are instead of just trashing others. "Hey everyone look what they're doing so you don't see what we're doing."
I think Rep Walsh needs to rewind the tape and listen to Sandra Fluke's speech again. What a jerk. Maybe Walsh needs to get a job instead of living off the government.
Sandra Fluke is a well educated lawyer from a prestigious university who is not afraid to stand for womens right. Her speech at the DNC was outstanding with a lot of class- She is a classy and well educated lady!
Joe Walsh is a loser and needs to get a job so he can pay his child support and his vices. He is a loud mouth, uncouth person who has no shame representing the people in his district. Thie is the GOP for you. He needs to be voted out! All he knows is to shout and insult people. Shame, Shame, Shame
Who awarded women their "rights" to free (to them, not to others that have to pay the bills) deduction, co-pay free oral contraceptives, surgical sterilizations, and abortions, pezvelathe?
Nobody awarded women the right, but in order to work a job and to keep one the EMPLOYERS demanded women not get pregnant. That means that idiot republicans are the ones who demanded women not get pregnant while holding down a job I don't know why you can't figure that out so you must be stupid.
I see the problem now. Keith flunked high school biology.
It takes a man and a woman for a pregnancy to happen.
You're argument went out with Murphy Brown in the 60s, Ethellouise. How old are you anyway?
Not anymore, Cab Driver. A woman and a turkey baster do right fine nowadays. But sperm from American males has become a leading renewable resource export of this nation, as we don't restrict with ultra severe privacy rules like many foreign nations do, so that intelligence of the donor, success at academic and business or professional achievement, and even physcial attractiveness can be selling factors the buyer of the purveyed sperm shops for. Amazing how the birds and the bees story changed in just a generation, isn't it cab driver? Of course, You are still stuck with you high school education only, aren't you? And those sheep pastures outside of Salt Lake City environs, no doubt. LOL!
Since when are the insurance companies "America?" Also, this coming from a guy who wouldn't even support his own children without a legal settlement.
Since America's govenment took control of the health insurance companies, just as they took control of General Motors under this President, natsteel. But that's Nationalist Socialism for 'ya!
The American Government did not take control of health insurance companies even Romney is yapping about keeping parts of Obamacare around.
a total jerk!
Give Joe a break. Obviously his blood sugar was hella low. Seriously, you'd think by now he'd start having these things where there's food around.
Who is embarrassing whom, Rep. Walsh? You who bears both the title of Congressman and coward who does not support his children? Or, the young lady, Sandra Fluke, who knows more about pressing issues confronting female American citizens? Face it Joe, you're the joke here.
The only criticisms I have of Sandra Fluke (besides her politics and socialist agenda) is she should have worn red instead of that basic black number, done away with that garish multiple linked circles necklace stretched across her heaving bosom (obviously chosen to symbolize the linking together of feminists' vaginae). A simple strand of pearl necklace would have been more acceptable, perhaps. And of course the well meant admonition that she would come across on her attempt to gain a foothold for a political career by opening her mouth less, and closing her legs more, and not constantly holding her hand out, especially in public; most unseemly behaviors for an unmarried, never held a job woman of her age.
You are crude and you are insulting to women. Perhaps you have mommy issues, but bring that to your psychologist and keep it off the boards.
Her recently getting engaged to her boyfriend of eight years must sure be making Keith jealous, that such an intelligent and capable woman is no longer available for wooing.
jezebel.com/5905437/sandra-fluke-sluttily-commits-self-to-a-lifetime-of-monogamy
The one who really got jealous was the Dowager Empress's Barren Sister, Ann Coulter... Look at that shot she took at Fluke and Bill Clinton at the convention...
(P.S. Sarah Palin the the D.E.)
Do you know that fiance of Sandra Fluke is the one and the same boyfriend who is the son of a wealthy Democrat Party finacier that got her that appearance before the Democrats in Congress for her show hearing on the poor struggling Georgetown female students who couldn't afford their oral contraceptives, then she and sonny boy immediately took off for two weeks of Spring Break in ritzy Palm Springs, California across country for some quality spa hopping and bouquet shopping, and some serious anti stress relief bundling in their pre engagement bliss, Aaron? Give me a break! This gal is out for a political career, and a single issue one at that! Pathetic! And she rates prime time in a national convention? It's a side show...meant to hook the naive young women's votes, for cheap too! Nothing more! And shameful pandering, if you ask me!
Sandra can't get a break, first from Rush the hater of every one except for himself and now Joe Walsh. What are these men so afraid of? It's like the Republicans have lost their minds this election. Why is it when women want to educate other women about birth control or panned parenthood, the nuts come out of the wood work. It just amazes how out of touch they really are and they just don't get it. Is this what we in Congress like Joe Walsh, Todd Aiken, Alan White and Michelle Bachman. People wake up and vote these crazy people out of office. They should not be representing their state much less themselves. They are an embarrassment to this great country.
@Aries1958
Your right it takes some pretty twisted logic to blame women for demanding birth control be paid for by their insurance companies then think they the idiots have to pay for it.
This is a perfect case of government getting 'bigger' something that they claim they 'don't want' that's why they should be called stupid idiots.
I'm thinking if women didn't have the vote, the government would've outlawed paternity tests...
Cabbie,
Now I'm confused again. National Socialist - that's what the Nazi party purported to be. I just went to the trouble of growing a beard, purchasing that dumpy looking olive drab outfit with the stupid cap and buying a used copy of the "little red book" on Amazon - 'cause all the trolls keep telling me I'm a Marxist Pinko Castro Mao Commie.
You're telling me that I now have to shave and invest in totally new wardrobe? But I have subacromial bursitis - how am I ever going to salute?
The tenets of the government model of fascism include the government control of the private industrial base of the nation. GM, 60% owned by the Federal Government. An even larger ownership of AIG, which just now come forward with its new IPO offering of stock. Problem is, who wants to be partners in ownership with this federal government calling the shots for those two enterprises now, Adam? Especially when the original stock and bond holders took such a bath at the insertion of the federal government into the restructuring of those public corporations. Hey, maybe that is why the stock of GM has fallen over 50% in price since the IPO opening, and why the federal tax payer is out $50 billion in losses in stock price and now worthless warrents over the nationalization of that one corporation, that is now losing $49,000 on each of the government mandated Chevy Volts that come off its assembly line ($89,000 avg manufacturing cost, $40,000 avg retail sales per vehicle). But what do I know about economics? And that doesn't even begin to address the govenment heavy hand in the control of our nations financial institutions now, post TARP and Dodge-Frank legislation.
BTW, anyone see Obama's college and university transcripts and see if his past professors lived up to the reputations of his past associates in Chicago, definitely on the socialist side of the political and economic spectrum, Adam?
Apparently capitalism did pretty well under Nazi rule.

IG Farben - No brutal takeover of the corporation by the Nazis state – this was a marriage of mutual love.

And after all of his pre-war anti-capitalist bluster Hitler said,
"I absolutely insist on protecting private property ... we must encourage private initiative"
So - "socialist" - not really.

As a stuggling you university student with a wife and one child from our years living in Europe while I was in military service, my wife used various contraception strategies, including diaphragm, oral contraceptives, and IUD implantation. When we did have our private insurance coverage of those costs, I gladly paid the decuctions and the co-pays. And long after the birth of our planned 2nd child, when my wife decided on a tubal ligation procedure, we paid the deductions and the co-pays also.
I'm not trying to bar Sandra Fluke for having access to her choices for he contraception, i simply believe, as do so many others, that she should not have a total free ride. That does nothing other than sexually objectify women, in my book; and pander to them for their votes, and pretty cheaply at that.
Is it me or are republicans out of touch with woman issues in this country.
We have this guy , then the "legitimate rape" guy, who the hell vote for this people.
Are they a reflection of our society?
Muteheretic-They still believe in the Old Testament that women are property and should be stoned to death if raped. They think that God was the greatest slave trader of all time, including women as slaves. If a woman was raped and could not prove she was a virgin, she was stoned to death. If the man raped a married woman, he had to pay the man who was married to the woman, but no concern for the woman. I can't believe that Religious people still believe the Old Testament. If the owner of slaves blinded a slave, the owner could allow the slave to go free beause he had no responsibility for taking care of him. God said that slaves were to be beaten because words were not enough, read Deuteronomy. If a child disobeyed the parent, the child could be killed.
AC, trust me I know ALL about the bible and its disappointing messages.
What is wrong with Americans when we elect people like that.
These men are discriminating against woman and there rights.
We need to shut them down quick.
AC,
Perhaps just a bit of hyperbole, however - you might search for and down load (for free) a copy of:
The Changing of the Guard: Biblical Principles for Political Action by George Grant, published in 1987 by Dominion Press.
Check around pages 49-52 or so .
Remember, I just said "a bit" of hyperbole - Grant has a very interesting plan for America. You might want to keep that passport updated.
I am simply amazed at the caliber of people in politics. Most are greedy, self-centered, with no agenda but to listen to themselves talk and line their pockets. Everyone is so concerned with electing a new president - bettter stop and take a real close look at all others in Washington. If they would spend more time working and less running around the country disagreeing this country would be better off. We are a joke to the rest of the world. I am afraid this agenda is now the 1% and leave the rest behind. I can not vote GOP and probably will never again. Everything could be better and in time I am sure it will, but the alternative is very frightening. This is not less government but much more government getting into your business. When Mitt shows his tax returns and quits lying and flip flopping I will take the GOP more seriously.
When all is said and done, it is about state rights over federal rights. The Republicans want a federal government closer to the Articles of Confederation - that's the "smaller government" they talk about. What they don't mention is the shift to very powerful and intrusive state governments - that's the "big government" they do not discuss. Most of the state legislative pushes in the areas of abortion, contraception, gay marriage, and free speech are targeted at the 1st Amendment and a reconsideration of the meaning of "Congress shall make no law...".
Uh, Adam...I believe the Supreme Court has adjudicated these issues of abortion, contraception, and gay marriage, and found them to be within the purview of the powers of the individual states as in accordance with the Constitution of the United States, and not the Articles of Comfederation. I haven't a clue as your conception of what constitutes a single state's pushes against free speech. Nice try, though!
Again - the goal is to pass legislation at the state level that will lead to the Supreme Court eventually making inroads on federal authority and a redefinition of the 1st Amendment in favor of states rights.
Backers of the state constitutional amendments hope to spark a legal challenge to the landmark Roe v. Wade decision by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1973 that gave women a legal right to abortion.
