A new ad from American Values PAC, which is connected to evangelical leader Gary Bauer according to Politicker, attempts to convince Obama supporters who oppose same-sex marriage to support the Romney-Ryan ticket. Some observations about the ad...
"Hey, honey — how are ya?"
The husband waited until after he prepared the cup of coffee to ask his wife how she's doing. We can only assume that the husband and wife spent the preceding minute or two in the kitchen in complete silence, demonstrating just how much President Obama's support for marriage equality has ruined this couple's marriage.
*Close up of coffee mug*
Any directors out there want to explain this shot? Does the ad not work unless we know the coffee mug landed safely?
"Fine, I guess."
The wife doesn't thank her husband for making her coffee. No time for thank yous. Not with this gay marriage thing threatening her way of life.
"Obama is trying to force gay marriage on this country."
That's a stretch. President Obama supports marriage equality, though has yet to introduce legislation to legalize same-sex marriage. If anyone is attempting "to force" a definition of marriage on this country, that would be the presidential candidate backing the federal amendment.
Also, President Obama announced his support for marriage equality in May. The wife is just learning about Obama's position now? Maybe she didn't thank her husband for delivering the coffee because she's mad that he just got around to delivering her MAY'S NEWSPAPER.
"What can we do?"
She has no idea what to do. She can't think of one way to help remove President Obama from office. Not one. She needs ideas. And if anyone can deliver on an idea to help remove President Obama from office, it's the guy who silently and thanklessly delivers her coffee in the morning.
"We can vote..."
Oh yeah. Voting. Why didn't she think of that? I mean, she remembered voting for Obama, but are you even allowed to vote twice?
The ad is appearing on televisions in North Carolina, where, in May, 61 percent of voters backed an amendment to North Carolina's constitution that banned same-sex marriage. A recent Pew poll shows that 29% of Democrats oppose legalizing same-sex marriage.
Do you think a voter who backed President Obama in 2008 will back Mitt Romney in 2012 because of President Obama's position on same-sex marriage? Share your thoughts in the comments section.

Their will be anti-Obama votes, mostly from the religious fundamentalist that includes Black churce parishoners and their clergy, white church parishoners and their clergy, hispanic Catholic parishoners and their clergy.
And that "Obama is yet to introduce legislation that would legalize same sex marriage" is true. it would never pass congress, just as it hasn't passed any state that has had a voter referandum on it, such as North Carolina just two months ago. But that may not stop him from trying to go the executive fiat, this supposedly trained in Constitutional Law scholar that uses that route to supercede or make end runs on Congress, that supposedly co-equal branch of government. He has already done that by his order to US Attorney's not to the defend the Defense of Marriage Act that allow other states not recognizing gay marriage to not recognise "couples" that have had that ceremony and legalization of their same sex union in other states. Forget Congress, forget the Supreme Court or Federal Courts...Obama knows best. (NOT).
Anti-Obama votes from... Black church parishoners [sic]?
Ninety four to nothing, gonzo...
This was a favorite argument of LDS leaders as they twisted the "spiritual arms" of wealthy Mormons in California to donate money in support of Prop 8... The one that was overturned in the courts--at considerable expense--because of arguments made by the two attorneys who were on opposite sides of Bush v. Gore... The business gnomes at LDS headquarters are still reeling from the bad publicity they garnered...
And if it's religious bigotry to report that the LDS Church has offered referrals to "reparative therapy" to individuals saying it's possible to change sexual orientation, then color me bigot, but make sure it's a proud bigot. That "therapeutic goal" is at odds with both APA (American Psychological and American Psychiatric Associations), and their ethical guidelines. Additionally, as late as the mid 1990's, electro-shock therapy was also offered. That's right, they strapped electrotrodes to your genitals, showed pictures of same sex porn, and shocked you when your body responded.
Whenever and wherever the people have spoken on the issue, the pro one man/one woman supporters have won, Cab Driver, and that includes amonst states with high percentages or black and hispanic voters.
You want to argue with those facts, go ahead! Make my day! LOL!
Fuzzy, everyone here knows you get a big charge out of lying, doubtless a testosterone rush, perhaps from an early childhood trauma you avoided by lying that fixed your psychopathology. So I'll decline to engage you on this one at this point; EWO left you bloody enough already... Of course I will point out how dishonest you were with your characterization of no minorities at the DNC in contrast with the Repugs... And Debbie Wasserman-Shultz was particularly powerful; I could see her as a presidential contender in 2016...
You might do well to review the links Adam posted below which show the direction the issue is moving... Well, except among the conservatives... But please don't go after Adam for reporting the findings; he's strictly the messenger...
Your claim, however was that there would be African-Americans who would vote for Romney because of the President's position, and that's bull@!$%#.
And given the reviews Clint Eastwood has received, you might be advised to find someone else to pilfer your clichés from... I realize your both aging sorts who've lived their lives in a fantasy world, but seriously...
I'm well aware of what the right wing has done to spur on the Westboro Baptist Crowd, but they are on the wrong side of history.
SL Cabbie, I have read your blogs for quite a while now. You crack me up. However, today not only do you seem a little angry so have a hint of bigot in your attitude. why are hating? I can see by the knowledge ,conveyed through your blogging, why you drive a cab and are against big business, but why are you hating on the Mormons? Harry Reed is a Mormon.
As usual, the Cab Driver can't refute the stated facts (no state population, including those with high percentages of blacks and hispanics have voted for Gay marriage in the majority...none, nada, ziltch) So he cover his retreat with insults that I am a liar, and plays psychologist. 230 words or so, and you said nothing! What a waste of blog space.
Go get some lesson in debate techniques, and stop wasting our time with your stupidity.
He SHOULD sign an executive order banning discrimination against the LGBT community. Enough is enough, these people are just A-holes that oppose civil rights for gay people. Screw you all, we're going to win, PERIOD.
Well, he hasn't done anything yet...and I think he's done it for a reason. I think there will be some changing ship in the process, but I don't think it's going to be a large percentage. Most progressives don't give a hoot about those kinds of "values". Don't like gay marriage...don't marry a gay. Problem solved!
To say that President Obama is "trying to force gay marriage on this country" is a lie. It's actually a double lie. It's not a "stretch." It's a false statement of fact. He's made clear he has no desire to force marriage equality on anyone: he said he personally supports marriage equality but believes it's a matter for states to decide. The second lie is the implication that a President has the power to force gay marriage on anyone. Presidents don't have that authority. It's ridiculous to suggest he could "sign an executive order banning discrimination." If Presidents could do that, JFK could have imposed the Civil Rights Act by fiat instead of everyone having to wait until Congress passed a law. And it's ridiculous to wish that Presidents could do that, because in that case, the next Republican President could simply issue an executive order banning gay marriage. The only relevant authority Obama has is to appoint Supreme Court justices who will recognize that laws against marriage equality are a violation of equal protection under the US Constitution-- and even then, the Senate has to approve the appointment. It's a lie to suggest that, because he may have the chance to appoint a Supreme Court Justice in his second term, and he may appoint one who believes that marriage equality is a constitutional right, and the Senate may confirm that appointment, this means he's currently "trying" to "force" gay marriage on the country. It's a pity the people who sponsored this ad can't be fined for false advertising and get the ad removed. False advertising is against the law. For some reason, politicians are allowed to break the law with impunity, even when there exists no reasonable interpretation of the facts that would make their statements true. Can we really not draw a line here without endangering legitimate political free speech?
Obama is still evolving on that issue, just as he evolved from a candidate for President in 2008 not supporting gay marriage, but only civil unions, to a desparate late conversion just this summer when he found himself suddenly cut off from business and finance campaign fund raising resources, and needed to court the LBGT community and Hollywood, which is a redundancy, I admit!
But stay tuned...this guy is capable of anything if he believes it will further his political ambitions. He has already issued his fiat against the US Attorneys supporting the Defense of Marriage Act. Do not believe he will stop there, Caroline.
Did you just call Clint Eastwood gay? I wouldn't be doing that... But of course he does support gay marriages...

Here is the link to multiple graphs showing identifiable trends over the past 11 years. Click on the numbers 1-8 bottom left of the first graph to view all. Note that though there was a downturn in 2011, Republican acceptance of same sex marriage - though low - is higher than it was in 2001. Acceptance by Democrats and Independents is much greater - acceptance by Blacks has also increased since 2004.
This graph shows changes of opinion based on President Obama's support for same sex marriage.

After all of that - it apparently doesn't matter that much to voters. This in not unusual in trying to interpret survey results. Until issues are ranked, it is difficult to understand their importance in a person's decision making process.
[From the April-July Pew study mentioned above.]
So, maybe by the second half of this century if the trend stays on, we might see a slim majority of American voters in favor of Gay marriage, Adam? I'm half way there myself, as I certainly don't mind bi-sexual women, especially when they come in pairs!
In an amazing flip flop through his political career on the gay marriage issue, Obama, like John Kerry infamously stated, was for it before he was against it. Only Obama has flip flopped several times on this issue, being for gay marriage as a candidate for his State Senate position, and for Senator from Illinois, but against it and for civil unions only as a candidate for President, but when desperate for financial support this Spring as his contributions had dried up from the finance and business sectors of the moribund econonmy, he flipped again, gambling that it wouldn't hurt him with his base, especially the black community, but would help him raise campaign funds from the LBGT community, and Hollywood, which are, of course, pretty much one and the same.
So Obama was for gay marriage, before he was against gay marriage which was before he is for gay marriage. Quite the merry go round for this supposedly resolute man of principle according to Michele and Bill Clinton in their pep rally speeches this week. Quite the political animal if you ask me!
