MSNBC's own Rachel Maddow trekked over to Broadway from 30 Rock yesterday to sit down and talk politics with David Letterman. The Late Show host had several questions about the controversy surrounding Rep. Todd Akin's "legitimate rape" comments... and things even got biblical. Sort of.
Letterman also got political with last night's Top Ten List... the subject? "Top ten signs your congressman is an idiot."

Todd Akin should stay in the race so that the battlefield will have more fun more drama especially when Democratic beat him badly. Yahoo!!!
I respect Mr Akin staying in the race, he is honest about what he believes in, so voters know where he stands and we can have a debate about the issues and make decisions based on that, instead of lying about what he wants to achieve. R&R are the dishonest ones that have exactly same agenda but won't own up to that or any position on anything. Voters need to educated themselves. We get the government we deserve.
While I can understand your respecting his honesty, "legitimate rape" expresses the assumption there's something called "dishonest rape." This is kind of like excusing a guy who forced himself on a woman because "I know she really wanted it." This is a misogynistic view, to say the least.
Then to claim that women's bodies somehow know the difference is unscientific idiocy.
So while you respect him for being honest, I disrespect him for being a misogynistic idiot.
As for R&R... well, we can agree on that.
Akin's remark itself contains his misogyny. "Legitimate rape" contrasts with "Consensual sex later called rape by a scheming woman". People like Akin barely conceal their stinking prejudice against women. They think nearly all "rape " is really of the second kind. That's his real message in the interview. Kooky biology is secondary.
Oh don't think I don't agree with you! I posted a comment about misogyny veiled as faith a couple of days ago. But like I said, rather have it out in the open so people know what they vote for. Not hidden and enacted on the sly while all we hear is *we just want more jobs* while they are removing civil rights with the left hand.
What are we up to now, 18 Post topics on this one subject in the past three days? What ever happened to the debate over Medicare that Obama's campaign was losing? What kind of short shift did you give to the CBO report on the fiscal cliff staring us in the face, and the crazed Democrats in the Senate that are threatening to take the nation over it. Another debt ceiling breaching, an automatic increase in taxes for everybody, working class to investment class, and the automatic across the board sequestration of domestic spending and defense spending to the tune of $1.2 Trillion dollars, all because the liberal Democrats in the Senate won't give an inch in negotiations on their demands for more taxes on the upper middleclass and "rich", and keeping all of the domestic spending with borrowed dollars, and President that has gone missing from Washinton, D.C. with 225 fund raising events this year, over 120 rounds of golf this year, and countless campaign trips on Air Force Once about the country since Labor Day of last year.
Interesting that Romney isn't "talking any questions" on the subject of abortion and Akin, and Rush Humbaugh® is running so scared of the subject he's hollering to the Dittoheads, "Don't go there! It's a trap!" Man, that's the first time I've ever enjoyed watching that fathead... Better than the "Viagra moment" or his bragging about being "unsurrendered" after leaving the rehab...
And the Coultergeist is shrieking about how the Republicans need to do something "nuclear" to save themselves from this one and b**ching at Akin for his selfishness...
But Grandpa is hollering about the smallish number of posts on the subject (I told him the ladies over on Maddow needed him; plenty was said over there), but I think that's just the Nyquil talking...
Mr. Longey,
Ah, we meet again..I find it funny that you like to troll on a "LIBERAL BASED" web page. Are you a hired gun for the Right? Do the Kock Brothers pay you to spread your propaganda?
You say the Liberals won't budge an inch? What a state of denial you must live in..
Oh, and about the fiscal cliff? If we do go over it, then the Dems can put forth a bill on January 1st to cut taxes for all but the top tax bracket, and the Repubs would have to vote yes according to their signed Norquist pledge; to always vote yes on a tax decrease.. Sounds like a great plan to me..What, are you against tax cuts?
Seems to me that the Dems aren't going to be in control of the House to originate any appropriations or tax legislation. Better learn how the govenment works, Brad!
But "Kock" (sp) brothers' employee? Hardly...I'm just a know it all (truely) retired individual with a need to educated the ignorant, like yourself, Brad!
Brad...Keith lives in a small eastern coastal state. But you are absolutely correct...he spends so much of his time in another state...that of denial.
Keith...if you should ever stumble across those cojones you lost a few threads back when you repeatedly lied about something you allege I said (but somehow, you just can't seem to provide anything to validate your allegation), you should seriously consider spending the money and getting them surgically reattached. I think the ACA might pay for it, but seriously doubt the Ryan plan would...something about a "pre-existing condition" no doubt. It would behoove you to begin your search posthaste.
After all, you have a mans name...aren't you the least bit curious as to what it feels like to be one?
I agree...you aren't one of the Koch employees. Hardly. For all their other faults, they do require that their employees be at least minimally intelligent.
Mr Longey,
While not grammatically correct, my spelling was as intended..
Feel free to stick around Brad...
Grandpa Fuzz (my nickname for him after Lt. Sonny Fuzz of Beetle Bailey/Camp Swampy fame; he's post-military these days, and the resemblance is unmistakable) is in need of some serious reality checking, although frankly, I'm not optimistic. It's more a matter of his camping out here and abusing impressonable children with his dogmatic rigidity and ad hominem insults. But you're right; he ain't all that bright. Keeps trying to win a swearing contest with a cabbie...
I don't know whether he's a paid Koch ho' or just an amoral sort; it doesn't matter because anyone familiar with the subject matter can sport the canned talking points right off the bat... Right down to the "global warming is a hoax" crapola... He embarrassed himself really badly on that one; relied on the tobacco scientists from the Heritage Institute, but as Eyes Wide Open above mentioned, he doesn't have the stones or the manhood to admit it...
Claims to know more about economics than Paul Krugman, even, and you should see the stuff he pulls out of his hind end involving history. I've blogged for a couple of really prestigious sites in my secret identity, and his National Enquirer style is particularly ludicrous.
What can one say when you see and hear so much "crapola" on The Last Word, it should merge with "Hard Ball" and change it to "Dumb And Dumber"
