Paul Ryan and Todd Akin (file)
Mitt Romney and other Republican leaders have been running away from Todd Akin's insulting comments on "legitimate rape." And Republicans have reason to be concerned — his bizarre and scientifically inaccurate tirade amplifies the GOP's war on women. Todd Akin widely-condemned comments further damaged the GOP brand as the party bringing American women back to days of before birth control. It could cost them the Missouri Senate race and women voters in November.
Romney, who boldly condemned Akin's comments on Monday, has flip-flopped in the past when it comes to his stances on abortion. But, ties between Paul Ryan, his staunchly conservative vice presidential running mate, and Akin threaten to widen the gender gap.
Last year, Ryan and Akin cosponsored a bill to prohibit taxpayer-funded abortions for rape victims. The bill sought to narrow the government's definition of rape — by literally rewriting it to the term "forcible" rape — in order limit federal funds for abortion coverage.
Ryan has stated in the past he opposes abortion even in the case of rape — a position which contradicts Team Romney's latest statement on abortion following Akin's comments.
Seizing on Akin's remarks, President Obama used him as an example of why GOP lawmakers — or furthermore any lawmaker — should not be involved in these personal decisions typically made after consulting with doctors and family members.
During an appearance at Monday's White House press briefing, Obama said, "We shouldnt' have a bunch of politicians, amajority of whom are men, making health care decisions on behalf women."

I hope so,but I'm so dissapointed in how many of my friends w/daughters,are supporting Romney/Ryan..It maybe loosing me friends on fb but I've been sharing the disturbing facts about Ryans' agenda, including the Personhood Bill, which could Outlaw In-Vitro. fertilization and the Birth Control Pills..I'm waiting on a brave journalists to ask Ryan about his views, maybe during the VP debate..Some of my friends will not take my word for it,after all,I'm a Liberal..But they deserve to know what Ryan's plans are, while in the White House..
"Would outlaw in vitro fertilization and birth control pills?" Wherever did you hear that lying nonsense, Deneen. Listening to some left wingnut propogandists appearing on some commentators show on this MSNBC network, no doubt, before a supposedly learned commentator that should have had the journalistic integrity to correct that kind of hysterical comment.
Maybe Deneen got the idea from Ryan's own words...
http://www.democracynow.org/2012/8/13/the_paul_ryan_vision_of_america
And the "fertilized ova are people, too" claim?
http://thinkprogress.org/health/2012/08/13/681611/paul-ryan-bad-for-womens-health/
Ryan co-sponsored a “personhood” amendment that would give legal rights to a fetus starting at conception. Ryan joined 62 other Republicans in co-sponsoring the Sanctity of Human Life Act an anti-abortion measure declaring that a fertilized egg “shall have all the legal and constitutional attributes and privileges of personhood.” This would outlaw abortion, some forms of contraception and in-vitro fertilization.
http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/112/hr212
112th Congress, 2011–2012: To provide that human life shall be deemed to begin with fertilization.
Now Cabbie...how DARE you toss out factual evidence to Keith to see. You know perfectly well he's incapable of assimilating that kind of data.
My good friend L, let us ponder if we might for more than a moment.
As far as these "more righteous than" folks on the right in the gop are concerned let there daughters be raped [hypothetically for real] and see how prudent they have become when they turn out pregnant.
Let them be for the sake of argument raped by THEM or there uncle and force them to have the baby. How about a poor man from the inner city who not only rapedt hem but stab them mutilate them and dis figure them... Then see if forcing them to carry and have a baby is first and foremost on there mind.. ;]
Cheers
Deneen, many of us are in the same quandary. It's shameful how both sides have pitted family, friends, neighbors and strangers against one another for political expediency. You have a right to your opinion and you have a right to share that opinion with those you love. Besides, if you lose a friend over a personal opinion that you hold then it might be time to reflect upon how strong those friendship bonds really were. BTW- I agree with what you said =)
Legislatin meant to restrict the federal funding of abortion do out law anything, they just stop the tax payers funding of the act. It'd your interpretation that in your words, the the legislations words that "this would oulaw abortion, some forms of contraception, and some forms of in vitro-fertilization" Cab Driver. There is nothing in that draft of legislation on assigning personhood rights that speaks to "outlawing" anything, especially not in vitro fertilization.
Just as when George W. Bush used an executive order process to deny federal funding to only limited defined stem cell research which excluded the farming of fertilized eggs, it was controlling the funding, not "outlawing" the research, which went forward without the taxpayers support on the basis of donations and contributions to research centers and scientists interested in pursuing that line if work.
For some reason, I expect better when discussing these issues with liberals like yourself, but an always mildly disappointed, not by just your ignorance, but your obvious dishonesty, left wingnuts!
Ryan is scum.

There are at least 12 reasons why Mitt Romney would not make a good president. Here's John F. Ince's list. What's yours?
1 • Romney neither understands nor represents most Americans. The man lacks empathy for those who have not had all the benefits he has had in life. His presidency would be deeply polarizing. One can easily image his election as president would generate new waves of social unrest and violence. He clearly represents the 1% and the 99% will not tolerate policies that exacerbate the growing divisions between rich and poor.
2 • Romney's job creation claims are inflated and unrealistic. Mitt Romney's professional career was based on a very specific task: buying and selling companies for profit. He wants people to think that this qualifies him to be a job creator. With the exception of his investment in Staples and a few other early venture capital deals, his jobs creation claims are mostly chimera. He takes credit for creating jobs, when he was only an investor in those companies, not an executive. In practice, he predominantly used his power as an investor to eliminate jobs and shift other jobs overseas, all in the interest of making profits.
3 • Romney does not have a sound fiscal plan. Extrapolating from the projections Romney has offered for increased defense spending and tax cuts, his policies would blow a hole in the Federal budget, further eroding investors faith in the government's ability to get its fiscal house in order.
4 • Romney has little respect for the natural environment, nor a commitment to protect and preserve it for future generations.
5 • Romney has lived a cloistered and privileged life and today has a very narrow view of the world.
6 • Romney's worldview is rooted in intolerance.
7 • Romney does not fully understand the transformative power of technological change.
8 • Romney is temperamentally unfit for the presidency.
9 • Romney lacks direct foreign policy experience.
10 • Romney lacks integrity and honesty.
11 • Romney has no commitment to women or equal rights. There is little in his public statements or record to suggest he feels any responsibility for advancing the interests of women and minorities.
12 • Romney lacks sufficient charisma and personality to be a strong leader.

Akin's fringe views should scare away women from voting Republican regardless of whether election is for Congress, Senator, or President. Republican women need to become informed on what is happening -- and, how the conservatives in DC are trying to take women back to the early 60's. Women - regardless of party need to stand up for all women's rights and value.
These women so easily to be scared by a stupid statment by one Midwestern Senatorial Candidate off on an ideological sophistry trip weren't very scared away of real actions of such as Democrat Presidential rapists Jack Kennedy or Bill Clinton, who received idolation from Democratic women. Nor that pervert Winer Democrat Congressman from NY with the big ultra liberal mouth and busy e-mailing and sexting to underage females picutures of his bare torso and underwear clad "equipment" (not govenment issue, of course) out of his boredom with the lowly duties of office, one presumes. And now this guy is looking at a political comeback and being talked up as the next Democratic Mayor of NYC, for god's sake!
Time to get real, get off the hysteria trip, and if you are an Unemployed female in America place the blame where it belongs, as 400,000+ women lost their jobs during the past four years of the Obama mismanaged recovery which has dragged out this recession unnecessarily to the pain and anguish of some many in our nation.
Show where these men sponsored bills that would set Womens rights back to the 1950s..I know you wont let any pesky facts get in the way ..When you can have a baby you may have an opinion on Womens issues..Now go back to your guns and bibles .
Keith, this "stupid statement" could very easily become law. Not only that it is supported by a man who is the VP running mate of Mitt Romney. The part about Clinton, Weiner and Jack Kennedy is just off topic. I believe you missed the point. Not only that you are assuming what issues are important to women without the equipment to back it up. Us guys should listen to women on these topics that affect them.

4 • Romney has little respect for the natural environment, nor a commitment to protect and preserve it for future generations. He blindly subscribes to Republican views that climate change is not scientifically proven. He gives no indication of any desire to develop alternative sources of energy that can mitigate the man made sources of pollutants. Instead he supports the rollback of environmental regulations all but giving companies a green light to pollute the environment and waste vital natural resources.
5 • Romney has lived a cloistered and privileged life and today has a very narrow view of the world. From the Cranbrook School to Brigham Young University, to Harvard Business School to Bain Capital, it's difficult to imagine anyone who has been less exposed to the lives and conditions under which most Americans live. The covenants of his Mormon faith are extremely rigid, restrictive and unrealistic. His devotion to his faith is admirable, but his inability to step beyond the confines of that religion suggest that he would have difficulty reconciling who he is with who others are in an increasingly diverse world.
6 • Romney's worldview is rooted in intolerance. He has a very narrow view of the world. America today is a diverse nation with many different racial groups, faiths, all in need of respect. The bully incident at his prep school and his aggressive corporate behavior buying and selling companies at Bain Capital suggest someone who has little desire help those who are different, less fortunate and in weaker position than him.
7 • Romney does not fully understand the transformative power of technological change. Mitt has no professional technical training. Most of the companies he invested in at Bain were low tech. His expertise is finance: specifically buying and selling companies. All this suggests someone who will pay lip service to the tech sector, but won't fully grasp the potential for transforming the economy and culture through advancing technology.
8 • Romney is temperamentally unfit for the presidency. He is peevish, controlling and less than transparent. He has a rigid worldview that revolves around what is best for himself and a small circle of those who support him.
9 • Romney lacks direct foreign policy experience. His four years as Governor of Massachusetts do not give him sufficient knowledge or expertise to effectively deal with an increasingly complex world. On the job learners nearly always make blunders, sometimes blunders so large that they create huge problems for the U. S..
10 • Romney lacks integrity and honesty. His fudging of issues is a sign that he feels he can head fake his way though difficult debates. His statement that he does not remember the prep school bully incident is implausible. His evasiveness over release of tax forms and embellishment of his accomplishments are all red flags. His decisions as an executive at Bain Capital were not rooted in ethical behavior. The man is simply not forthright enough to earn the trust of the American people.
11 • Romney has no commitment to women or equal rights. There is little in his public statements or record to suggest he feels any responsibility for advancing the interests of women and minorities.
12 • Romney lacks sufficient charisma and personality to be a strong leader. The country needs someone to lead forcefully and inspire citizens to tackle problems that threaten the diminishment of American stature on the world stage. Romney's robotic and reptilian personality fails to connect, leaving people feeling that Romney is in the game only for himself, rather than in it for the good of all.

One can only hope. OBAMA 2012
Here is a good link on the subject:

Obviously, the remark made by Missouri Senatorial Candidate Akin was ignorant, and lacked the empathy, and emotional and physical caring, and respect due to rape victims. That added bit of pseduo medical nonsense he was attempting to hinge his insulting argument on was a bit of sophistry beyond belief.
But, the chances that his bill or any bill that would so define "legitiimate and illigitimate" catagories of rape of ever seeing the light of day in a committee hearing are not slim, they are nothing.
That is not to say that the laws of states do not catagorize the crime of rape, and have different penalities for the rapist(s). There is statuatory rape with degrees of severity, with a 19 yr old young boyfriend who has consesual sexual intercourse with a 15 year old girlfriend, for example. And there is the rape with physical assault and cruelty and kidnapping involved that certainly differs from the taking advantage of a woman who is impaired by alcohol consumption, for example. And we all know that there are false accusations of rape, some from young women who have had nothing more than a case of remorse for their remembered actions on a date or adventure which some time later they discovered resulted in a missed period, or perhaps a veneral disease and a failed pregnancy test.
I worked as a Social Worker for the Department of the Army in Family Advocacy and was responsible for assessing spouse abuse and child sexual abuse (including sexual abuse), and developing treatment for the individuals involved. And Iwould also be assigned cases for both single women and men in uniform and married women, either in uniform or dependants of military uniformed personnel, who presented with complaints of having been raped. There were numbers of wives of military personnel whose husbands had been stationed overseas in places like Korea or deployed to Kuwait and Iraq (in Iraq War I) who would be coaxed to make claims of having been raped (which explained their untimely pregnancies) inorder to be referred to civil resources that were on contract with our Medical Center to perform abortions for military or their dependants, as the federal law and Army regulations would not perfom such in our medical institutiions.
No means no, and when a man disrespects a woman and imposes his will over hers, that is rape. No question about it. But the problematic area of deciding on a case by case basis if a rape occurred, especially in the "he said, she said" cases with no physical evidence (except in the case of an unwanted pregnancy as above) some months after the fact remains very troublesome for the participants involved, and our legal authorities. We all know that! And the problems that exist with attempting to meet the requirement of the settled law of the Henry Hyde amendment to bar the use of federal funds to support abortion (except in the cases of rape and incest) is a problematic issue still today.
Romney/Ryan have both stated they believe Rowe v. Wade Supreme Court decision that upheld a woman's right to privacy, and only allow states to make regulations regarding abortion directed to the second and third trimesters of pregnancy (and I know of no state that does not provide for post 1st trimester abortion practiced in their borders for the cases of protecting a woman's health, and cases of incest and rape) is part of that settled law. And that is where state legisltures argue these issues. There is not a stance of either national party, or any of the national candidates, that differs from the Rowe v. Wade decision of old, and the Henry Hyde Amendment to appropriations procedures in our federal govenment's treatment of these issues, and won't be. It is settled law, folks.
So let us get over the somewhat sensational aspect of one fool's statement, and the rather hysterical reaction to it, and try not to demagog this issue as a distraction from the national issues of our moribund economy with its high unemployments, our nations floundering fiscal situation, the need to reform our tax code, the need to reform our out of control and due to go bankrupt entitlement programs, our need to obtain sane energy programs and policies, and our need to maintain a ready and vigilent defense posture in a troubled world. Those are the issues of importance, and the issues that have clear differences amongst the candidates of the Republican and Democrat Parties to discuss.
Note to Grandpa: Most of us here regard it as "sophistry beyond belief" when you attempt to be articulate on subjects you know nothing about. I'm thinking of that junk science you tried on global warming a while ago, and now you've revealed your charter membership in the "HypocritesRUs" fellowship...
"When a man disrespects a woman..."?
The way you did when you repeated and defended the attacks on Katherine Fluke, essentially labeling her an unmarried tramp who was a Democratic lackey? And you doubled down on that one with "I didn't really say what I said" claims on the subject of abortion. Shoot, I had to give you a biology lesson on the "morning after Pill" even, and i"m sure you flunked the test afterwards.
Or that overly patronizing attitude toward women where you suggest they are being manipulated by the Obama campaign... You apparently never heard of the concept of "meta-message" in what little psychology education you had. You've essentially said, "Dear, dear, don't worry your pretty little heads about this stuff, and oh, look out the terrorists are going to invade this country and take away your children and impose Sharia law."
@SL Cabbie
Why is it that every woman is considered lying to the respondent above? Men can be raped too as if they don't use sophistry or that's just a fancy word for lying I mean men can be manipulative as well. Such as the user of the word who want to argue about sex rather than the fact that the republicans are using sophistry about Obama's real record how he has created jobs but cannot get those scum sucking republicans in congress to work with him then he will divert the argument again by saying that Obama had a majority when he never did Franken didn't get sworn in until July of 09 and then Ted Kennedy died, plus republican president Ronald Wilson Regan spent more money than Carter, Clinton and Bush combined and lets not forget all the multiple republicans who have patronized prostitutes and used sophistry to declare their innocence. John Ensign comes to mind who slept with the wife of his best friend who also worked in his office and how other republican senators were complicit in the cover up.
How can he defend that.
Obama has not spent the money the poser complains that he has that all started during the bush administrationthe money that they are 'bleating' about is the intrest off the money bush urinated away... bush was handed a surplus and in the meantime legislated away all our civil rights by changing laws regarding bankruptcy which gave us the mortgage crisis and financial laws which were supposed to save us money but ended up letting the banks charge us unconscionable fees - shall I go on?
And besides if Obama is such a bad president then how come they could not find anybody better than Flip Robme to run against him?
Thanks, Ethelouise, for that reminder about Al Franken and Ted Kennedy... That helps shine a little more light in an area I'd overlooked... Such are the political realities and system dynamics where conservative Democrats are involved...
As for Grandpa Fuzz, one element I'm aware of is we all "bring our stuff" to group dynamics at some point or another (BTW, I'm not really a cabdriver, I'm a committee of three PhD's here in Utah, one of whom is a psychologist ;-). His extreme need for validation--which drives the rude, controlling, and attention-seeking behavior--was born of being raised by a mother and grandmother after his father died when he was young. He learned to compensate by living in a delusional "King Baby" environment where it was likely he alternately enjoyed being pampered by women and hated their control and power. His view of women forces him to see them strictly as objects, and not authentic human beings with a mixture of human qualities and needs. He'd have to take that stuff to a therapist skilled in psychodynamic approaches, however, and it's most unlikely he has any motivation to change his boorish, immature and "omnipotent dependent" ways. His denial is on par with what we used to see among child abusers as far as its intransigence and resistance to intervention. In "Transactional Analysis" terms, he operates from a dichotomous, "I'm always right and everyone else is always wrong" paradigm that keeps his shame-based "core" at bay. He's terrified of being unmasked or even acknowledging a simple "mistake" (like the Joe Biden-was-a-Congressman lie he tried to pass off).
In a nutshell, he's a garden variety "woman hater" but there's no way he has any "empathic connection" with his "conscience" on that one. There are a lot of those sorts here in Utah in varying degrees; I hope you saw my friend Sue Emmett's discussions on the subject that were featured over at HuffPo... She knows her stuff on that subject, and really it's a larger culture of women-being-subservient-to-men that gives rise to a lot of the dysfunction among both sexes. And Mitt Romney's religion has no monopoly in that area, either. Witness how the über right white males are attempting to maintain their control down to minute issues of women's rights to their own bodies. If they were honest, they'd admit the appeal for them in the notion of forcing women to wear burkas and submit to the sort of domination that existed back in the 14th Century.
He's unable to "connect the dots" on this one; I dealt with my own issues (much less "all encompassing" than his, fortunately, but it was still painful and hard work). My reward was a decent sense of self, however, for which I am grateful, and only then was I able to "see the forest for the trees." I also had help from a skilled therapist and mentor who was a legitimate genius.
Fuzzy does draw me back into some "anger addiction" issues, but I can joke that it helps me shed the road rage (okay, I lied about not being a cabdriver just to yank his chain). He learned to lie at young age, although he's not particularly skillful at it; he uses it to bully anyone who try to hold him accountable, and that's the trap he lives in within his own narcissistic prism. See the works of Timmen Cermak and John Bradshaw if you're interested in more illumination. And BTW, I'll stand for fact checking from credible clinical sorts on this one. The first evidence I saw of Grandpa being a fraud occurred when he tried to pass himself off as possessing some level of expertise in this area when all he was doing was tossing out buzzwords and defending a career of "caretaking" for disabled sorts who probably managed to recover in spite of his efforts. Genuinely humble therapist types realize it's largely an individual's own efforts that gain them relief from the psychological and emotional assaults on their equilibrium that life can inflict on any of us.
Now you can expect him to attempt to "retaliate" against me--and you--for these analyses, but he's really bringing a squirt gun to a light saber duel. I've even got a consultant or two within easy reach, and he's not half as intelligent as he thinks he is. Witness his inability to understand the simple physics of global warming. I learned those by making a small mistake--in print no less--and a caring friend of mine, who works in the field and does have a PhD, corrected me on the science.
From Beck and Freeman: Narcissists are apt to get particularly angry at those who attempt to hold them accountable for their abusive and boorish behavior...
Cab Driver and EthelLouise: 2 peas in a pod.
A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, as in the Cab Drivers attempt to wrap himself in the cloak of Doctor of Law status due to his incredible claim out of the blue of being a "committee of three PhDs here in Utah, one of whom is a psychologist." That language he used is precise, and he is not holder of a PHD, let along three. But at its roots, it smacks of a personality disorder at the very least that has him assuming three different personages living as a committee in his being. Makes for good fiction, just like his attempts to psychoanalyize me, which is not what "psychologists do".
There is nothing in my upbringing or in my personal life or in my social services professional employments that lends itself to the kind of insulting characterization that the EthelLouise and the Cab Driver tried to paint me with as a supposed answer to my arguments on this posts topic of trying to link Paul Ryan to the absurdity of Atkin. Typical of left wingnuts, they don't like the message, so they attack the messenger. But one hopes sometime in their lives they obtain the maturity to not see everything in black and white, and learn to discern different shades of grey. It's a big step up for people leaving the idealism of their adolescent years behind, and learning to live and work in the real world. Unfortunately, for the Cab Driver, for those burdened with the ailment of alcoholism and/or addictive personality disorder, that state of arrested development locks them into the state of perpetually thinking and feeling like an adolescent.
Narcissistic entitlement, Grandpa: Are you suggesting what you write here isn't "part of your personal life"?
And now he's stealing that "attack the messenger" concept I gave him a bit of an education about a few months ago. He's been doing that for month's now with that non-existent "addictive personality" that he's unable to define or provide scholarly support for the existence of.
I'm not the one "with a little knowledge, Fuzzie." There are "gaps" in what I've learned, but unlike you I don't have to lie to compensate for them...
Mirror, mirror on the wall,
No prizes for guessing who's the biggest @!$%#talker of all...
Here are the top 10 comments about Bain from Romney’s Republican rivals:
1. “The idea that you’ve got private equity companies that come in and take companies apart so they can make profits and have people lose their jobs, that’s not what the Republican Party’s about.” — Rick Perry [New York Times, 1/12/12]
2. “The Bain model is to go in at a very low price, borrow an immense amount of money, pay Bain an immense amount of money and leave. I’ll let you decide if that’s really good capitalism. I think that’s exploitation.” — Newt Gingrich [New York Times, 1/17/12]
3. “Instead of trying to work with them to try to find a way to keep the jobs and to get them back on their feet, it’s all about how much money can we make, how quick can we make it, and then get out of town and find the next carcass to feed upon” — Rick Perry [National Journal, 1/10/12]
4. “We find it pretty hard to justify rich people figuring out clever legal ways to loot a company, leaving behind 1,700 families without a job.” — Newt Gingrich [Globe and Mail, 1/9/12]
5. “Now, I have no doubt Mitt Romney was worried about pink slips — whether he was going to have enough of them to hand out because his company, Bain Capital, of all the jobs that they killed” — Rick Perry [New York Times, 1/9/12]
6) “He claims he created 100,000 jobs. The Washington Post, two days ago, reported in their fact check column that he gets three Pinocchios. Now, a Pinocchio is what you get from The Post if you’re not telling the truth.” — Newt Gingrich [1/13/12, NBC News]
7. “There is something inherently wrong when getting rich off failure and sticking it to someone else is how you do your business, and I happen to think that’s indefensible” — Rick Perry [National Journal, 1/10/12]
8. “If Governor Romney would like to give back all the money he’s earned from bankrupting companies and laying off employees over his years, then I would be glad to then listen to him” — Newt Gingrich [Mediaite, 12/14/11]
9. “If you’re a victim of Bain Capital’s downsizing, it’s the ultimate insult for Mitt Romney to come to South Carolina and tell you he feels your pain, because he caused it.” — Rick Perry [New York Times, 1/8/12]
10. “They’re vultures that sitting out there on the tree limb waiting for the company to get sick and then they swoop in, they eat the carcass. They leave with that and they leave the skeleton” — Rick Perry [National Journal, 1/10/12]
Just last night, Newt Gingrich defended his attacks, saying “I think there are things you can legitimately look at in Bain Capital. I think there are things you can legitimately look at in anybody’s record, including Mitt Romney’s record.”
As the former National Communications Director for the Republican Coalition for Choice, I was driven out of the party by a combination of increasingly myopic and frightened party leaders more concerned about political influence than women's rights and women who were unwilling to speak for themselves, their daughters and granddaughters. Todd Akins and Paul Ryan are the result of those years of delusion.
Another quiter heard from! Hysteric to boot!
Good to see you here, Michael, and all of us appreciate your voice, honesty, and intergrity.
It's a genuine battlefield honor when Grandpa Fuzz calls you a quitter... He has a little problem with understanding that concept, however. You should see his rants about my abstinence from alcohol...
You're probably the sort who minds his manners, but since Grandpa has none, and everyone expects a cabbie to be rude on a regular basis, I'm content with regular servings of roadkilled zombie brain... Nobody eats it here, of course, but it can be useful as fish chum and such... We can feed it to the trained dolphins and seals as well, and the kids can learn something from their performance.
"I was driven out of the Republican party...the FORMER Communications Director for the Republican Coaltion for Choice" (would that be anything like the Cab Drivers mythical "committee of three PHDs (one of whom is a Psychologist) self agrandizement and grandiose statement, Michael? Sounds to me like you didn't have much sticktoitness. BTW, what exactly do you mean by "womens' rights?" that the "myopic and freightened party leaders". Your rhetoric (Communications Director) is juvenile, and certainly bordering on hysteria, and I see nothing in your two sentences which would earn the Cab Drivers statement that your "voice" has honesty and integrity. That sounds more like poor meism weeping to me!
Hey Grandpa, why don't you get hold of your friends at ALEC and get them to repeal the 19th Amendment?
And while I appreciate the "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" when you borrow my tactics, it would be better if you acquired a bit of skill before you attempted to use them.
I'd say be careful swinging that toy light saber, but given that I gelded you months ago, there's not much danger...
And everyone please note Grandpa still hasn't acknowledged he lied about Joe Biden being a U.S. Congressman...
The fact that Romney/Ryan purposely distort Obama's $716B cut to medicare shows me just how dishonest they are. Especially since the cut is being spent on medical care, it doesn't reduce benefits to seniors. Compare that to Ryan's proposal that cuts the same amount and the money is used to make up the difference created by tax breaks for the very rich. Why shouldn't the very rich be paying the same tax rate I am? Why should capital gains be taxed differently? Money is money. The interest on my savings, which the bank uses to invest, is taxed the same as my income. That money is still being invested.
"The $716 billion in cuts do not affect benefits for today's seniors. Instead, they reduce provider reimbursements and are intended to curb waste, fraud and abuse." ----- And I'll bet you ten thousand dollars, Ryan / Romney did NOT mention that little bit of information to the crowd.....
“When Paul Ryan says his priority is to make sure that we’re, you know – that he’s just being America’s accountant and trying to be responsible… I mean this is the same guy who voted for two wars that were unpaid for, voted for the Bush tax cuts that were unpaid for, voted for the prescription drug bill that costs as much as my health care bill – but wasn’t paid for,” Obama said on April 15, 2011.
In 2008, Ryan released his "Roadmap for America's Future," which described his sweeping vision for how to gut America's main entitlement programs of Medicare, Social Security and Medicaid. The plan made him a hero among conservative circles, and Ryan eventually remade it as his "Path to Prosperity" plan, which President Barack Obama and Democrats have criticized for embracing tax cuts for the very rich while slashing government programs that help the poor. (It wasn't just Democrats who criticized Ryan. While running for president, Newt Gingrich called Ryan's plan "right wing social engineering," which probably helped kill Gingrich's bid.)
President Obama actually helped raise Ryan's profile on the right by critiquing the Congressman's budget, and just last year, Ryan was reportedly mulling his own run for president.
Critics have called Ryan’s 2011 proposal the “end of Medicare as we know it,” and that’s true. Until now, Medicare has operated as a “fee-for-service” system; under Ryan’s plan, it would operate more like a voucher system, although Ryan and his aides have resisted this term. Medicare would cease to pay for health services directly, instead operating as a board that approves a menu of health plans for public sale and doles out predetermined lumps of money to people enrolled in Medicare, to help them buy those plans.
After its release, the president called Ryan’s plan “fairly radical” and posited that it would “change our social compact in a pretty fundamental way,” ABC’s David Kerley reported.
“I guess you could call that bold. I would call it short-sighted,” Obama told 500 Facebook employees and 200 other attendees at a town-hall meeting held at Facebook headquarters in Palo Alto, Calif., in April 2011. “Nothing is easier than solving a problem on the backs of people who are poor or people who are powerless or don’t have lobbyists or don’t have clout.”

How do these mean GOP and Tea party types even think they are fit for serving Christ? I guess they are like organized criminals, whack someone, go to Church , you're absolved ! ? Morons, Legitimate Rape? How the F*ck is Anne Romney going to carry that and "You People" Forward? I guess they think they can't lose with all that money, the Koch Boys and Sheldon Adelson on their Team. They stole the vote, are buying the election, what next ? America just is not America anymore ! Sad State of affairs in the USA today.
Obama outspent McCain 3 to 1 in the 2008 campaign after renegging on his pledge to limit himself to matching federal campaign dollars in a reasonable election effort.
And to date, Obama's campaign has far and away outspent Mr. Romney's, and Obama has been off on 220 fund raising expeditions so far this year from Manhatten to Hollywood, drumming up the dollars to try to outspend a Romney/Ryan campaign who have been banking their political contributions for the real political battle to come Septmember to November. Obama is spending recklessly for his reelection just as he spent recklessly the peoples tax monies and borrowed Chinese, Japanese, Brits, Germans, and Danes money for ineffective and wasteful stimulus efforts over the past four years, $6 trillion worth.
I know this is a stupid question, but please explain something to me. Birth control pills, IUDs, formerly legal abortions, and invitro fertilization are now to be considered murder. But condoms and Viagra are fine.
What is wrong with this picture?
Another hysteric heard from. What piece of legislation are you reading with that assumnption of yours that says "Birth control pills, IUDs, formerly legal abortions, and invitro legalization are now considered murder". Are you referring to some criminal legilation in some state I haven't heard of, where criminal legislation is written? Legislation written and debated in the Congress of the United States doesn't define murder...if you are referring to legislation that defines how Federal dollars will be spent, that is another argument altogether, and in your ignorance and attempt to demagog this issue, you are lying your stupid head of with your comment, Mj Carbo!
I don't know where you came up with that information. Maybe you could post a link to a story here.
Mj Carbo,
The only thing wrong with this picture is the current MALE REPUBLICAN dominated House of Representatives of the current Congress.
We have to throw out the anti-abortion Republican freshman class of 2010 in 2012 with DEMOCRATS who will side with WOMEN for a change and respect the MOTHERHOOD in the female specie for a change. Respect the reproductive organ of the female specie as it should be respected through the ages and give back the human right to control her body as she pleases.
On November 6th 2012 please vote straight DEMOCRATIC down ticket to get back a DEMOCRATIC House & Senate for a HISTORIC Obama second term!!!
I know this is a stupid question, but please explain something to me. Birth control pills, IUDs, formerly legal abortions, and in vitro fertilization are now to be considered murder. But condoms and Viagra are fine.
What is wrong with this picture?
Lying twice doesn't make your crap statemen any truer!
Does that mean that statutory rape is not forcible therefore rape of children is acceptable?
The intent of the legislation never taken up in committee means that federal dollars wouldn't be allowed to be used in the case of a wanted abortion for statuatory rape, which is different than criminal sexual assault, and carries different penalties, sharyna, as there is a degree of consent involved in the sexual intercourse in statutory rape. A 14 or 15 year old female may still access abortion if that is her choice, as the provisions of Rowe v. Wade Supreme Court decision provide that the states may not interfere with that in the 1st trimester (but might regulate the conditions of the abortion post the 1st trimester). It's just that the Federal Taxpayers wouldn't be paying for it.
Under the Republican AGENDA a female who has been raped has to carry the product (child) of her rape to term and present the rape resulting baby to the state for adoption as a contribution to the Republican AGENDA.
As an Obama supporter, I have to weigh in and say that there is no arguement to the fact that a human life begins at the fertilization of an egg. I am solidly pro-life, and do not believe that abortion can be justified to terminate an unplanned pregnancy. However, as a parent of four daughters, I would NEVER tell one of my girls that she had to carry a baby concieved by rape to term. Abortion as generally used in the United States is immoral, but morality cannot be legislated. Only through education can abortion be (mostly) ended. I disagree with the Democratic Party line on "choice" (women should have a choice, but that choice should be the choice as to whether or not to get pregnant). Still, I will cast my vote for the President in November.
All criminal and civil legislation is legislated morality, OVUgirl. But there is nothing in any piece of legilation under consideration of in the Federal Government that proposes forcing women to carry a baby conceived by rape....NOTHING! Nor is that a position held by the National Republican Party and its candidates for President and Vice President.
Good for you OVUgirl thanks for supporting the President vis-a-vis these idiots in the House of Rep (the class of 2010!). Get the bums out of the HOUSE in 2012 on November 6th 2012!!!
The better question is not what is forcible rape, but how exactly do the Republicans define non-forcible rape. Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan your supporters, I for one am waiting for a reasonable coherent explanation of that act that if offered by a defendant's attorney in a court of law would not said attorney to sanctions or the warning of same in many states including Mass.
A few years ago, Republicans of Florida once tried to stop a 12 year old girl from having an abortion and tried to force this child to have a baby because she had consentual sex with a 34 year old and got pregnant. They refered to her as a responsible young woman who knew what she was doing. It is clear that Republicans do not believe in statutory rape because it is not the redundant "forced rape".
Mythical Republicans at what level of government in Florida tried to force a 12 year old girl involved in a statutory rape from not having an abortion"...oh really? Cite the case, site the level of governmnent, cite the outcome of such. "They" is a handy dresignation that could refer to an actual being, or could be a figment of your sick imagination, Honytonk. I suspect the latter, "It is clear that Republican do not believe in statutory rape"...do you understand how absolutly dumb and disingenuous that comment is? What rock did you crawl out from under?

To know everything Paul Ryan stand for, voted for, Wrote policy and bills on go to The Congress House page look up what the Personhood bill is with the house voting for it over 200 votes Rep's. The HR 212 Bill with Paul Ryan also sponsor with his name on it. There are more Bill with Ryan's name on it as well on Women Rights to stop our rights to womenhood. AKIN SHOULDN'T BE THE ONLY ONE WHO PAYS FOR THIS. Welcome to the Tea Party folks.
The Sanctity of Human Life Bill of the 112th Congress was a refinement of the previous editions such as HR227 of the 111 Congress, and HR4257 of the 110th Congress. It was submitted and referred to Judiciary Committee, and not taken up or debabated and/or voted out to the consideration of the whole Congress, going the same way as thousands of other bills of legislation submitted but never really intended to gain passage. HR212 was a vehicle for some to make a moral statement; nothing more, nothing less.
Keith LONGEY it is because of people like you that are born out of RAPE that need to make a statement in the HOUSE of Representative to destroy a female's reproductive RIGHTS!!!
Shame on you KEITH LONGEY. I hope in 80 days the HOUSE & SENATE will turn blue and President Barack Obama will be elected to a HISTORIC SECOND TERM to put people like you KEITH LONGEY to shame!!!

There are at least 12 reasons why Mitt Romney would not make a good president. Here's John F. Ince's list. What's yours?

Republicans also believe that a woman's getting pregnant from "rape" is proof that she was not raped.
What an ignorant boor you are, Honytonk. Take your stupidity elsewhere, it isn't wanted here!

The Catholic position is similar to the candidate's: God wills life and God wills death, PERIOD. If a woman is raped and becomes pregnant, God expects her to respect His will, and have the child[which she can then put up for adoption, or, can consider the child a Blessing from God, coming out of a horrific event]...Consider this: the perpetrator's life will be spared[with luck, he'll only get ten years, out with five with good behaviour]; the baby will get killed; the perpetrator will then rape again; his life will again be spared; another baby gets killed....THIS is justice in today's world?!
Paul Ryan is scheduled to appear with Rep. Akin at a "Voter Values Summit."
All aboard; the Titanic sails in under 80 days now...
http://www.pfaw.org/content/paul-ryan-headline-todd-akin-love-fest-next-month
maybe that will be cancelled. And yes Obama has struck an iceberg,
'Scuse me?
http://firstread.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/08/21/13399788-nbcwsj-poll-heading-into-conventions-obama-has-four-point-lead?lite
These numbers are only slightly changed from July, when Obama led Romney by six points in the survey, 49 percent to 43 percent, suggesting a minimal bounce for Romney (if at all) after this month’s Ryan pick.
And that's six points in Pennsylvania and Ohio--as well as New Hampshire... And per Keith Olbermann: Todd Akin, God's gift to the Republican Party...
ok women wake up, these men romney and ryan do not want women to have a choice on there own bodies, so ladies if you are raped you do not have a choice in there eyes you did not get raped these men are a joke and will lead us back to the 50"s. example the good old boys network. now all women who need to make there choice in texas, now they drive to mexico to have the choice done. do we need to move backward. no we need to give woman the choice. and govt. and romney and ryan we do not need please re-think your vote.
Only women going to Mexico for abortions are the illegal immigrants that came from there, William Williams, or women seeking abortion past the 1st trimester of their pregnancy. Texas has abortion clinics just as do every other state in the Union, hysteric!
here is something funny paul ryan looks like eddie munster from the munster 1313 mocking bird lane
And you thought that up all by your self. You should be proud. You are the kind of people who shouldn't be allowed to vote. You will probably vote Obama because you like him and not for his policies.
Reasons conservatives should loose congress, the presidency AND the supreme court:
1 - Republicans have become scientific proof that evolution can go in reverse because even the educated ones with a medical license are in-bread.
2 - The republican "god squad" tries to gain points with religious leaders by defiling the Sea of Galilee with drunken debauchery.
3 - Mitt Romney thinks he can become president after destroying the economy so bad that Massachusetts unemployment went from #37 to #47 under his leadership.
4 - Mitt made Massachusetts unemployment better by making unemployed residents flee the state by cutting off unemployment benefits that they paid for - so voters should suspect he plans to improve the US economy by making unemployed people "self deport".
5 - Romney is lying about cutting taxes because he raised Massachusetts income taxes anyway after claiming he would cut them.
6 - Romney got nicknamed Fifi because he increased Massachusetts state fees to he could increase taxes for the poor - which you can't do with income tax.
7 - Romney is lying about government debt and unemployment because he increased Massachusetts debt while while simultaneously increasing taxes and at the same time he increased state illiteracy rates and unemployment by cannibalizing state education funds.
8 - Mitt Romney's "winning strategy" is to repeal his main accomplshiment --> Obamacare.
9 - Mitt can't release taxes for 2008 and 2009 because he voted in Massachusetts while taking a deduction for the home he built in California, just like the stunt he pulled by running for governor of Massachusetts while deducting the cost of his primary residence in Utah.
10 - Romney released taxes from 1997 to 2007 to McCain and also publicly released taxes from 2010 and 2011 because these won't prove he committed felony voter fraud by voting in Massachusetts while deducting the cost of his California mansion as his primary residence.
11 - Mitt Romney purchased citizenship in the Cayman Islands so he can flee prosecution if anyone does manage to get a copy of his taxes because you can't erase a felony after the fact by altering your prior-year taxes like the stunt he pulled when he ran for governor of Massachusetts.
12 - Romney has to have his wife with multiple sclerosis defend him because he can't keep all track of all of his lies and felonies because of the brain damage caused by a 1960s auto accident.
13 - Mitt Romney adopted a voodoo "jobs plan" from Ryan that claims it will reduce debt by cutting taxes.
14 - Mitt criticized Obama for printing money - which he did not do - because Mitt's plan is to reduce national debt AND cut taxes for the wealthy at the same time by printing money as described in the Romney/Ryan plan.
15 - Mitt also claims he will reduce unemployment by cutting unemployment benefits to make unemployed people "self deport" to Mexico - like what he did to cut unemployment in Massachusetts.
16 - Mitt plans to cut public education because he thinks it is silly to think illiteracy rates have anything to do with unemployment despite 100 years of proof that this actually causes more unemployment every time you do that.
17 - Mitt believes he will win because he is the "white candidate", which is why he has not issued a single criticism of any white-supremacist political stunts.
18 - Romney is claiming that education is not an important qualification to be president because he has less than his opponent.
19 - Mitt abuses animals and makes geriatric retirees destitute by robbing their pension funds because of psychopathic tendencies - a trait which he fondly shares with his wife Ann.
20 - The paranoid delusional schizophrenic tendencies of Mitt Romney compel him to commit violent acts, like the time he committed assault and battery when he tackled another boy so he could cut off his hair because "the voices told him", but the brain damage from the car accident made him forget.
22 - Romney is the best possible Republican candidate because he wants the death penalty for women that use an IUD or contraceptive medication because he is a "pro-life" conservative republican that thinks you can't get pregnant from rape.
