Bill Clinton will play a leading role at the upcoming Democratic National Convention in Charlotte. The former president will formally nominate President Obama for another term in a primetime speech on September 5, one night before Obama is scheduled to accept the nom. The invite to speak came from directly from Obama, who personally called in the favor.
"There isn't anybody on the planet who has a greater perspective on not just the last four years, but the last two decades, than Bill Clinton," David Axelrod, strategist to the Obama campaign told The New York Times. "He can really articulate the choice that is before people."
This move bumps Vice President Biden's speech to Thursday, September 6. Typically, veeps get their own night to shine. Instead, he'll introduce President Obama inside the Bank of America Stadium.
According to a new Gallup poll, two-thirds of Americans have a favorable view of Clinton. And that star-power will come in handy on because he’ll be competing against the NFL season kickoff game on NBC at the same time.
Clinton, who now regularly doles out strategy advice to the Obama campaign, will make the case for Obama's economic plan and remind voters of the good old days of a booming American economy (ie. when a Democrat was in the White House).
Unlike the Dems looking to play up the nostalgia card, Republicans seem to want to leave the past behind. Former President George W. Bush does not plan to attend the GOP convention in Tampa and former Vice President Dick Cheney will be on a "fishing trip." No one seems to be encouraging them to do otherwise.
Cheney's still not over 2008. Sen. John McCain's decision to put Sarah Palin on the ticket in 2008, calling the pick a "mistake" on Sunday.

Hmmm...and I thoght this was a rather pathetic desparate move to reach back from two failed Democrat Party canditates and a failed incumbant President whose slash and burn campaign against his opponent and the bisiness/finance private sector and the capitalists in our capatilists economic system has failed spectacularly as the average of the recent polls shows a 46%-46% tie now. And I thought Clinton's roll was to put a friedly to business face on this socialist leaning big government version of the Democrat Party, and try to appeal to the white male blue and white collar workers amongst the Democrat and Independant voters now in the undecided and not buyung the Obama campaign's economic, fiscal,energy, healthcare, and defense policies now that they can see what poor results they have brought to the nation.

As to your mention of Cheney's statement on Sarah Palin's being John McCain's choice as his Vice Pesident if he and she together could win the 2008 election, that was made in answer to a question put to him of what is the candidates background and who should be Romney's choice of Vice Presidential running mate.
Cheney didn't take that bait, but went on to state emphatically that the choice be who is ready to serve as President from Day One of a New Aministration if the need arose. And he specified Sarah Palin being a novice on the National scene 2 year Governor as her best credentials did not muster up to that guideline in his opinion.
Of cours, Little Lying Larry wouldn't want to let you know the full context there, as it points the finger to just how poorly prepared to assume the Office of the Presidentcy as the 2 year Junior Senator Barrack Obama from University of Chicago and Harvard/Columbia Ivory Tower academia was in 2008 at the top of the Democrat Party ticket for his rock star eloquent JIVE TALKER persona. And we got to see how badly that worked out, didn't we?

I can see that if Clinton tries to put in a "rally the troops against the Repubs and their standard bearer Mitt Romney" speech, that the Pacs supporting Romney and the RNC will be featuring a now and then within a two month span to show the lie before the Dem Nationalist Convention; that even "I never had sex with that woman" Lying His Ass Off to the American People rapists and sexual harrasser snd seriel adulteror Bill Clinton was and now apparently still is...and liar. He already chastised Obama is attack campaign, now it will really be unseemly if he tries to put over a give em red meat address! LOL!
