Will Saletan of Slate.com wrote an exhaustive piece on the path Mitt Romney took while determining his stand on Abortion. Saletan chronicles how it began in 1963 with the death of a woman who was close to the Romney family, from an illegal abortion which he mentioned in a debate with Senator Ted Kennedy. Saletan also found that Romney commissioned a poll in 1986 before running for election which found that a pro-life candidate could not win a statewide election in Massachusetts. The poll came before Romney took a position, though Saletan does not say Romney took the position based solely on the poll.
Saletan also chronicles a trip that Romney took to Salt Lake City before taking what appeared to be a pro-choice position in his run for Senate and Governor. The evidence is that Romney made up his mind about his position before the trip and then went to church Leaders to discuss it, as Romney was a leader in his church.
Saletan's piece is long but fascinating as is the almost 7-minute video of Romney's changed positions on abortion linked to the article. Will Saletan joined Lawrence O'Donnell Monday night in "The Spotlight".

Praise the Lord and pass the Etch-a-Sketch...
It's as if Romney is completely unaware of any technological advances that records audio or the invention of the video camera. How else do you explain his insistence, to this day, of saying whatever the ppl standing in front of him want, during any particular event, on any particular topic? How can anyone vote for this guy? Seriously!
No news here. Insists he relinquished ALL control of Bain Capital in 1999, BUT had 100% control as OWNER, DIRECTOR, PRESIDENT & CEO. $100,000 per year salary plus ??? AND, then has the audacity to have his surrogate say repeatedly he "retired RETROACTIVELY!!" What the @(&% is that supposed to mean?? Of course, all those years collecting the $100,000 salary plus ??? (millions offshore??) will be lawfully placed in his IRA which is estimated to have between $20 million and $120 million although most of us can only contribute $6,000 MAXIMUM in a year, Mr. Romney seems to find ways to work his way around laws us mere mortals must obey. Oh well, leave it to Republicans to be "conservative" and "conserve" all "their" money while we work hard for what pittance we get after we bail out the banks which in turn are all now being caught yet again with their hands in the cookie jar for ripping off the American consumers... but, we musn't "over-regulate" the "job creators"... must we?? PURE B.S.
Obama can't run on his record in his term of office as he has failed to lead the economy to growth with all his mispent stimulus efforts, but fooish talking down business and finance, and threatening always new taxes and even more government interference regulations. He's obviously given up on turning around the economy, as he hasn't met with his vaunted Business and Jobs Council in the past six months, and filled his days with campaign trips and fund raising events (110 and counting so far), and scores of rounds of golf as the economy and hopes of the job seekers sink further and further down. He has failed to meet more than twice with the leaders of both Houses of Congress from both parties in the last year. And meanwhile, the fiscal cliff advances on us, which if negotiations and agreements for needed legislation doesn't occur by the end of the year, its recession time again, Big Time! Seems he has the intentions of if he can't win reelection, he will see to it that his successor gets a really screwed up economy that didn't have to happen!
So whats left for him...run on baseless character and ethics charges against his opponent, called out for that by the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, and numerous commentators and editors in the media, both from the left and right wing of the political spectrum. Run a gender, racial and ethnic interest group oriented divisive campaign on the social issues. Attack his oppononent on the little things where ever he can make a fuzzy case. All the things he said he would have to confront in his election bid back in 2008 when he was busy making those grand promises: unemployment rate to be down to 6%, the deficit cut in half, the health insurance premiums we pay down by $2,500 or more for the average family, drain the swamp in DC, and be the most open White House the nation has ever seen (ObamaCare, "you have to pass the bill to be able to read and understand it"), and (Executive Privilege claim to protect his in Contempt of Congress Attorney Genereral in the investigation into the cover up on the "Fast and Furious" gun running case), and close Guantanimo...all by the end of his "first term". He failed...all around, so he only gets that one term. Time for real hope and change now, and someone with executive and leadership sills that knows the issues of the private ecoonomy, which is not, as this clueless president announced a month back, "doing alright"! Far from it!
But this chicken @!$%# network and its parent organizaton will try to help Obama prevail on his bogus social issues and attack on opponents character and ethics. FOR SHAME, MSNBC! FOR SHAME NBC!
Keith... WOW... Pure fantasy.. You should be a science fiction writer... Because that is what this nonsense is you are spouting...
You seem to leave out the most important FACT that that you and your buddy Republicans have blocked everything making congress non functional. You spout non facts and garbage talking points, non truths, fear mongering, statements out of context, flat out lies and want us to believe your rantings....
It's everybody's fault except THE Republicans and Willard, flip-flop Romney... You want everyone to forget we watched while G W Bush trashed our country, initiated an uncalled for war on Iraq due to lies, dolled out enormous tax breaks to the rich, and spent better than a full year on vacation. Then you want us to believe flip-flop Romney is the answer to your prayers...
GOOD LUCK WITH THAT...
It will be a miracle if Mitt ever makes it to convention time due to all his lies, broken laws and possible felony charges, and income tax problems which will surface if he ever lets anyone see his returns... The IRS should be doing a full audit over the past 15 years on him, and if that happens Mitt is most likely going to prison instead of the White House...
"Non facts and garbage talking points?" Obviously, that describes your comment to a "T", G. Phillips.
A full audit has already been done on the Romneys by the IRS as his complicated tax returns puts him annually in the catagory to audit, fool.
Quiniapiac poll, Virginia, where Obama made his latest Faux Paux (that's French, G. Phillips for "fuc...d up") comment about "if you have a successful business, you didn't do that...someone else built that", showing his constant disdain for the private sector and small business and entrepenaurs, the very engine of employment and growth in our economy. He's lost a eight point lead in Virginia since his attack adds on Romney, and now that state is tied 44% to 44%. LOL!
This post is getting really repetitious, can't you come up with something original? Or is that all you've got?
