Mitt Romney has been avoiding the mystery surrounding his 15 year (or potentially longer) tenure with Bain Capital, and has called the controversy's findings a diversion from the election's real issues. However, his answers, starting last Friday with TV networks, have proven to become further fodder for his unsteady stance on what voters consider as "the real issues."
Romney told NBC's Peter Alexander that he had no involvement with the management of Bain Capital after February of 1999, and that he purposefully left the firm to run the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. Although public records have suggested otherwise, Romney has dug himself into a deeper hole by having his campaign explain away his signed documents.
Today, Buzzfeed reportedly uncovered a screengrab from the Salt Lake Olympic's website, listing Romney as "the founder and CEO of Bain Capital" in his bio. They went even further to find a video from February of 2000, where he was introduced again as "the founder and CEO of Bain Capital" at the National Press Club.
The Romney campaign will undoubtedly attempt to come up with more explanations for Romney's involvement with Bain, but there's no arguing with the Internet.

No explanation required.
Romney's resume is that he was the founder and CEO of Bain Capital, and the Olympics were very much interested in promoting that fact as that venture capital private equity firm was the most respected and the most successful as turnaround specialists for failing enterprises. And Romney's reputation was beyond reproach for honesty as well as effectiveness which is exactly why he was sought after to take on task of straightening out the waste, graft, and corruption riden Olympics that the International Olympic Committee was threatening to pull out of the US.
End of story, MSNBC! ,
Right... This one took place on Romney's watch...
The Romney business model wasn't a "turnaround" operation; it was vulture capitalism, pure and simple. Load the company up with debt, raid the pension funds, engage in ruthless job cutting of long time employees, and well, bankruptcy was always an option...

The 2000 filing date for this one is one reason reason Romney wants to claim he "retroactively retired" from Bain...
You've got to be kidding me. The dailykos is your source? Isthat a joke, Cab Driver. And is the same guy featued in Obama campaign discredited attack adds that recently came out with his revalation that "he couldn't stand Obama" and added "he won't get my vote".
Under Romney's leadership, the US Olympic team uniforms were manufactured in Canada. The special "patriotic" 9/11 pins sold to support the USOC were outsourced to communist China. So, even if you give him the benefit of a doubt as to wether or not he was still in charge of Bain up to 2002, Romney's record shows that he was still involved in directing jobs away from U.S. workers. It's a self defeating double standard for folks on the right to make "marxist" "socialist" charges against Obama when Romney has been feeding the very beast they seem to fear most.
Bad news for Bain capital
NObama has blamed everything and everybody for the piss poor economy that left his supporters (especially women and the young and the black and hispanic communities that "HOPED" for "CHANGE" in 2008 and are left "HOPELESS" and "SHORTCHANGED". From George Bush and Wall Street and the Business Community, to Earthquakes off of Japan, to the Tea Party and Republican's in control of the House of Representatives after 2011 and Bain Capital in 1999-2002, there were pleanty of culprits to shift the blame to. The one I like now is his crying about the economic headwinds coming from Europe (due to the faltering socialist economies in the Obama style of government reckless spending with borrowed dollars that no one wants the bonds of anymore): what he isn't seeing is those same fiscally unsound policies he promulgated and his meddling with business (including our fossil fuel businesses) through excessive regulations and calls for more taxes are the "chickens come home to roost" flying on those headwinds now.
The candidate of Hope and Change became 4 years later the candidate of Distract and Blame. How stupid is it that some of his old supporters will try to make him to be their champion still.
Vote NObama 2012!!
All those travesties did happen and DID hurt our economy - so I don't get your point. Also, here is some civics 101 for you - the president does not control the nation's economy. Congress is the most powerful branch of the federal gov't and it actually has the power - legislative and spending power - to help our economy - the president has the bully pulpit which is basically the ability to get the media's attention.
Your 101 wasn't very good i already new that... LOL
Vote NObama 2012!!
You're getting warmer on your IQ figure, batboy...
Really, b113, if you are going to cut and paste and pawn off as your own in total my comment from another posting on this blog, you will get both of us in trouble. The Car Driver, amonst others, has already been showing his paronia (think the Mel Gibson paranoid car driving character from "Conspiracy Theory") previously by thinking I am a 1) paid voice of the Koch brothers on this blog 2) a paid member of the Romney campaign staff and 3) delivering verbatim "talking points" from the Republican National Committtee here.
Uh, Grandpa...
The expression is in toto... From the Latin...
Wouldn't it have been easier for Romney simply to tell the truth about his involvement with Bain in the first place. He could have said his job at Bain was to make as much money as he possibly could, and he was good at his job. As president his job would be to improve the economy and he will be good at that job. He could have said yes he laid off a lot of people because his goal was to make money and that was the way it was done. If he is elected he will put everybody back to work because he knows how to undo the damage that was done by venture capitalists. Instead he is spinning stories about not being involved with Bain after 1999.
You sound like you would not be happy about what Rommey said because he already told the truth......
Vote NObama 2012!!
Truth is Romney is running away from Bain at the same time he says elect me b/c of Bain.
Hi, I am Mitt Romney. I left my company in feb of 1999 to fix the Olympics that took place in 2002. During that time I had no involvement in Bain, I was simply the CEO, and sole owner. I filed that way to avoid paying taxes, and it fits my story well saying I left. I hope you ignore what really happened and listen to me as I tell you how great we were, I mean they were during 1999-2002. Thanks for listening. Corporations are people also.
Besides the scores or rounds of golf, and the scores of early campaign trips, Barrack Obama has managed to get in over 100 separate fund raising events in the last 6 months. Meanwhile, he has only found the time or inclination to meet twice this year with the bi partisan, bi camerel (that's leaders of both Parties and both Houses of Congress). This with the well publicised and known fiscal cliff headed at us in preciptious speed now of breaching of the debt ceiling, the expiration of all the tax cuts of the past 12 years, and the deep economy and security damaging sequestration cuts of $1.2 trillion dollars (that was never really invisioned to take place, but existed only to put preassure on the parties to negotiate in good faith a fiscally sound reduction in spending and a longer range plan to address the growing deficit/debt problem).
But the picture of an inept and distracted President more interested in raising a war chest for his reelection campaign and running a lying attack campaign on the business and government experience and character of his opponent gets worse. Much worse! With 4 months of floundering employment numbers, 8.2% (really much higher) unemployment rate still, and 1 million home owners still facing foreclosure this year, and 3 months now of declining retail sales numbers and declining manufacturing numbers in the monthly toll of bad news, Barrack Hussien Obama hasn't found the time amonst his recreation, his campaigning, and his fund raising pursuits of the last 6 months to meet with his Business and Jobs Council! WTF IS UP WITH THAT, LIBERALS?
With that kind of record in office, of not being in his office attending to the nation's pressing business, this incompetant failed President has the nerve to ask the people to return HIM for another 4 years? Send the fool home to Chicago before he does anymore to us!
For Keith Longey- The conservatives and the Repukes, John Boehner and Mitch McCoonnell are the main authors of "do not do anything to let Obama get relected. Stonewall all...even to the extent of signing a "LET US GO OVER THE CLIFF" pledge with henchman Norquist. SO given that Obama cannot get anything done, he can certainly use the only avenue left to try to accomplish something! Go get teelected!
What would you do when you learned that the opposition would rather send this country into a deep depression than to let Obama get reelected????
It's the Democrat Controlled Senate that have used the stall and avoid tactics for everything coming out of the HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES (including three budgets after those same Democrats would not vote for the tax and spend and borrow budgets of their President which went to defeat unanamously). The House of Representatives, that had a mandate of the majority of the people in 2010 to stop the reckless spending and borrowing of the past two years of Obamas Administration and uphold the Constitution of the United States in legislation enactment above all else is the 1st stage of appropriation power, not the Senate, Bob. You are barking up the wrong tree there.
Let me help:
What has wilbur, oops, I mean Mitt done, in his life, besides help siphon as much money as he can out of America? Oh, I know he's helped his friends siphon money out of America too.
it's interesting that Romney has so many problems with the Olympics. He now touts his experience as making the Salt Lake City games the roaring success he says they were. "Excellent example of executive expertise! Did it all myself... came in and saved it."
Well, not really. In fact not even close to the truth...
His campaign staff, repeating his claim that he was too busy being Olympic head to have been Bain CEO, "saying that he had no time to do anything else but bring bobsledding to America..." "Uh... bobsledding was one of the sports in the 1932 Winter Olympics at Lake Placid, New York, guys.
Sorry, Mitt, you don't get to count that as one of your Olympic achievements. In fact..
Romney's supposed Olympic triumph isn't as simple as he wants you to believe. Rather, his success as president of the 2002 winter games was due to the unprecedented amount of federal money he procured to organize the most expensive Olympics in American history. And coming from a candidate who's spent his campaign railing against federal spending and earmarks, it's another breathtaking example of Romney's hypocrisy.
The Salt Lake games got more taxpayer dollars than all of the previous U.S.-hosted Olympics combined: a whopping $1.3 billion. For comparison, the 1984 games in L.A. received $75 million and the 1996 games in Atlanta received $609 million. It's clear that the real hero of the 2002 games was the American taxpayer.
Like much of Romney's success stories, many of us aren't quite as impressed as he is.
Bad form, Willard. Bad form indeed.
