Sen. John McCain said Tuesday he didn't reject Mitt Romney as VP in 2008 because of his tax returns. He said he picked Sarah Palin over Romney because he thought she made a better candidate. Here are some more stories we discussed at the Last Word rundown meeting today:
- Majority of Americans want to see what’s in Mitt Romney’s tax returns
- Ron Paul to Mitt Romney: Release tax returns
- Obama for America TV ad: 'Makes you wonder'
- McCain: Palin a 'better candidate' for VP than Romney
- Jon Stewart rips Romney's Bain Capital, tax return defense
- Illinois town calls on Romney to stop Bain-owned company from outsourcing 170 jobs

Bain has skeletons Mid America in it's wake. Romney doesn't want an MRI of the lead encased shark heart of Wall Street.
Romney was OK releasing his tax returns to McCain because McCain isn't going to share documents with the SEC.
The other issue is that the statute of limitation has not yet expired to sue Robme for stealing money from retirement funds. That litigation requires multiple years of tax returns to establish traceability from the plundered funds.
That McCain believed Palin to be the better candidate for VP just goes to show how shallow the talent pool is in the GOP. Scary stuff.
It's interesting how Mitt Romney isn't willing to show any of his tax returns other than those that are legally required yet average people all over the place have to show tax returns and other financial data to get those mortages that Romney says should just let fail or "bottom out"
"Don't stop the foreclusure process...let it run its course". Apparently he's deciding also to not stop the parade of questions about where he puts his money, he's letting it run its course I suppose.
Romney was considered to be from the same "moderate" sector of the Republican Party as was McCain, and McCain had his own little problems with getting the heart and soul of the conservatives in his party behind him. So he went with a give em red meat VP choice. You all remember when that kind of balance used to be pretty common? Sort of the same reasoning that George H. W. Bush used to pick Dan Quale out of relative obscurity, or Ronald Reagan, the out DC outsider and conservative went to George H. W. Bush, the moderate and insider to balance his ticket.
Romney will be looking to another conservative choice for his VP this year too, one can be fairly certain. Govs Bob McDonnell of Virginia and Bobby Jhendal of Lousisiana come to mind.
