Financial disclosure forms don't necessarily paint a comprehensive picture of a candidate's financial situation. As the Washington Post reported in April (and as TLW has discussed extensively on the show) most of what we have learned about Romney's finances have come from the 2010 tax return he released back in January. The WaPo article states:
Several of Romney's assets — including a large family trust valued at roughly $100 million, nine overseas holdings and 12 partnership interests — were not named initially on his disclosure forms, emerging months later when he agreed to release his tax returns... Romney's tax forms showed holdings in a Swiss bank account, a real estate trust and nine offshore accounts not named on the public disclosure reports.

Hey Larry, you should report on Wassermann-Schultz, Nancey Peloci, and John Kerry along side Mitt. They all have off shore accounts and investments. Another really cool story would be of how one of the biggest land developing companies in Nancey's district that seems to get all permits for the best formerly government owns plots is ran by her husband. Its like Halaburton sleeping with Bush.

When a person signs an agreement accepting the terms of the agreement than you are saying I understand and I'm telling the truth by signing this agreement. Once Romney signed the SEC fillings with his name as owner, President, CEO, Chief executor. Once he signed it he is verifying it to be true. Remember he is running on his business experience so he don't know not to sign his name to documents that has put him in this position and could be a felony?

Does it realy matter alot I mean didnt Obama have a few peole he hired that failed to pay their taxes? Im more concerned at why the unemployment rate is over 14% for Afeican Americans. lets not take our eye off the ball people we need to look at the economy.
Let's look at the facts here. Unemployment for blacks has always and I mean always been higher than those of the white race and no one in power showed concern about it or try to tackle the problem. Yes there was affirmative action that helped, in fact it is how I got my job that enabled me as a single mother to take care of my kids with out any government assistance. And yes it does matter. Like it or not I have to pay my taxes and there are a lot in Congress that does not deserve to get any of my tax dollars. And if Mitt is making money off of outsourcing American Jobs that matters alot to all of us. His character is in question and if he thinks that his wealth gives him privilege and entitlements that he does not have to be honest or open than I don't want him to be my President. If his interest to be President is to protect the !% and their money above all else. I don't want him to be my President. If he is making money through out sourcing jobs and off the misery of others. I don't want him to be my President. If he can't invest in America and put America first how can he be an American President?
Yup, and when you lie to Americans and claim you didn't work somewhere and make these decisions, when the paperwork from that company said you did...it kind of makes me wonder what else you're going to lie about. The guy above makes a random distraction to the subject claim about other people in office...Sir, the day these people run for President, we'll care more about that. For now, Romney is running for president in 2012, not Nancy or John. So, lets keep the points about the question and not use the tired old argument, "Well, they're just as bad, so it should be okay."
We have higher expectations than just rolling over and saying, "Okay, so the guy has offshore bank accounts, doesn't support American jobs first, is hiding his tax returns, and lies about his employment history....but it's okay, because (insert random person here) does it too..."

If you think that there is something other than the common practice of divsification in Romneys' Blind Trust's international investments of a small portion of his $220 million than you have to belief that his tax attorneys have told him to hide and lie to the Federal Government about those investments, risking a felony charge.
This is all simply liberal media and Obama campaign hype as a distraction from the failures of this current Administration to accomplish a sound fiscal, economic, energy, and defense policy for this nation in 3&1/2 years of being in office, aided and abetted by run away spending on political patronage with more than its share of graft and waste due to not passing a federal budget in the past 3 years.
With the fiscal cliff of a breaching of the debt ceiling ahead of us before the end of the year, with the continued need to borrow over $1 Trillion dollars annully (at the current rate of unbudgetted spending, sure to go up as this Admiinistration tries to grease the wheels of the election ahead), and with the deep squestering cuts to be made because the President and his Party will not budge on the issue of the reforms of entitlement programs that will have to be made to keep this nations Social Security and Medicare Programs from going into bankruptcy in the next decade or two or to negotiate Tax Reform, this President and his Party are off campaigning, politics as usual. They cry for new taxes on the rich, while they mispend the monies (dwindling as the economy goes sour again) that the taxes they receive provide now and augment that with $.42 of every dollar spent with new borrowing, risking a further credit downgrade as we experienced last year.

You forgot to mention the 33 times the House wasted time to vote to repeal Obamacare, you forgot to mention all the votes they wasted trying to control a woman's body. You forgot to mention the Jobs Bill that they won't even bring up for a vote all the while not having a job creating bill of their own. Where are the jobs Boehner? Look at the time the Republicans wasted trying to create a scandal using Eric Holder. While it was those states laws that hampered the arrest of those involved in gun walking. What have the Republicans done besides stand in the way of things getting better? They wanted to shut down the government, they got our credit down graded, they are not willing to compromise on anything. They sign pledges to people outside our government not to raise any taxes and afraid to go against those pledges for fear of getting premiered in the next election. The Republicans are afraid of the Tea Party afraid to stand up for what is right. Obama tried working with them, tried to compromise, including their own proposals and yet they still oppose Obama. Really what have the Republicans done for anyone of us? Tax cuts for the rich does not create jobs. The past has proven that. Yet that is all they want.
5.6% unemployment rate for the 8 years of George Bush's Presidency, same as Bill Clinton's 10 years. Obama isn't going to come close even after busting through the debt limit with his runaway "stimulus" spending, refusual to accept the recommendations of his own Simpson-Bowles Commission, and attacks on the business community. He wants more taxes, and more borrowing, to feed his public sector spending...as if that is the answer to spurring growth in the private sector where the vast majority of our nations jobs are to be found. That is his only answer. Who would want to cooperate with that approach?
3 & 1/2 years if an average of 8.5% and rising Governement measured unenemployment rate in the nation, $4,700 less family income than in 2008, and $5 TRILLION and rising added to our national debt, and he wants another 4 years? Hardly!
Could that be because since 1/20/09 a dinner at the Caucus Room the "Just Say No Plan" was developed. The Republicans as confirmed by Mitch McConnell have one agenda and that is to take down Obama. GEE I would have thought their only agenda, according to the Oath they took, was to work to bring our country back from an Economic Disaster.

If President Obama's policies were so wrong, why didn't the cowards you put in office put up or shut up. They could have passed the American Jobs Act and prove how bad Obama's policies were, but they did not. If his policies are so bad why did they not pass the bill to put teachers and first responders to work. The Surplus left to George Bush was the creation of the Republican's in Congress that forced the cuts in spending that the Clinton Administration had begun their years in office with. And that Surplus was gone with September 11th, 2001. The intial and following tax cuts under the Bush Administration did not take affect until 2002 and 2004 respectively, and were targeted to combat the huge blow to our economy that the financial swoon after the Dot.Com bubble bust of the last year of the Clinton Administration coupled with the 9/11 blow from the Terrorists.
The Federal Government doesn't create jobs. The private sector creates jobs. Attemptingto supplant the growth of the private sector with public sector spending and employment support is taking from Peter to pay Paul, and self defeating. But that is the only answer Obama has to the predicament that his policies have left him with, an approaching doubledip recession and a rotton jobs picture, with declining personal income from what existed in 2008 under George Bush.

This just in: Foreclosures took an alarming jump of 9% increase in the 2nd Quarter, with several large swing states like Pennsylvania and Florida, and other states considered now to be on the fence in the election ahead like Connecticut, and some of 17 others having 20% increases of forclosures in the past 6 months over 2011.
In other words, Obama's promise in 2008 that by then end of his first term foreclosures would end was another broken promise, as over 1 million American's homes go into the court processess.
8.2% Unemployent rate (true rate estimated to be 14%+), a drop of $4,700 in the income of the average household from 2008, personal and business bankruptcys rising, and more and more people simply dropping out of the labor market, as the pitiful level of 80,000 jobs added only per month in the last quarter throughout the nation can't come close to meeting the average need of 170,000 needed just to meet the growth of the working age population, or combat the average of 385,000 new unemployment claims each week for the past month.
Add to that $3.50 a gallon on average for a gallon of gasoline and rising again ($1.80 a gallon under the last year of the Bush Administration) and we have the picture perfect of a failed Presidency. And now after years of failed attempts to marshal the worlds resources to put an end to the Iranian threats, its support of terrorism, and their nuclear weapons program attempts, the sparks are ready to ignite in our still dependant region of the Middleast as a recalcitrant rouge regime listed with the Hussein Military Dictatorship of Iraq and North Korea as the three Axis of Evil regimes by the George Bush Administration threaten our security, and those of our allies. And this Amateur President can't see his way to an economic policy that turns its attentions to all of our own resources and those of our closest neighbors and allies, Canada and Mexico. Better try reading the Washington Post's article on this issue and their own factchecker findings yesterday on their website, SL Cabbie. What an amazingly excellent show tonight w/Lawrence Odonnell... I don't usually stay up this late, but the discussion with David Corn of Mother Jones, whom I respect tremendously, and the excellent panel of Crystal Ball, Steve Kornache, the always sharp and delightfully intelligent Alex Wagner and the always thought provoking, Richard Wolfe. The highlight of the show with the inclusion of the former SEC representative to further highlight what exactly Romney has done in this regard, which is Lie to the american public. I am encouraged that unlike the conversation on CNN where it appears that money has purchased a different message in support of Romney's lies, thank you for just putting the facts out there and allowing the reasonable intelligent american public can absorb, process and arrive at sensible conclusions based on the facts. And as it appears from the FACTS, Romney is lying ... he has been running for President for 16 years and still cannot hide all the lies and distortions. Great show, MSNBC should give you an addl slot 7pm?

Cartoonist Bagley is an inactive Mormon (who served an LDS mission), and his brother, Will, is a prize-winning historian I'm having lunch with this weekend. Will has documented that LDS leader Brigham Young was guilty of treason in the 1857 "Mormon War" and likely ordered the Mountain Meadows Massacre in Southern Utah.
And please note that Romney's LDS mission coupled with his four years of student deferments allowed him to avoid military service during the Vietnam War.
Finally, that "Unpaid President of the Utah Olympics" is misleading since, as demonstrated, he continued to draw a full salary at Bain and participate in the decision-making there despite his claims to the contrary. More dishonesty...

To Obama add in the fact that he made his millions pawning off fictionalized accounts of his roots and early formative years in highschool and college dating white girls (and then writing that they were black girlfriends as a literary device of a "composition" of his actual girlfriends and his later wife?) and drinking too much and smoking pot and doing blow as a descendant of anti-colonial heros in his paternal and step-family's heritage that he now claims was simply an exaggeration for literary purposes?.
Romney don't have to attend a church where the pastor said God Damn America. He lives it. When he outsource American jobs, profits of aborted fetuses, wants to get rid of government workers, teachers policemen, firemen and first responders, when he wants to make education unaffordable. When he wants to get rid of the EPA and any regulations that will keep our air and water clean. When he hides his money in offshore accounts so he doesn't have to pay taxes like the rest of us. If what Romney wants to do as President is to take care of the 1% and big oil at the expense to the rest of us. When Romney flip flops on every issue and he has no real convictions and will move as the winds blow him he would make the worst President and we don't need him. Ask your buddy Boehner where are the jobs that they created or put up for a vote. Where is their job plan? What have they done except oppose the Jobs bill that Obama was begging them to pass that would have created 1.3 to 1.9 million jobs. They had to oppose it because they didn't want Obama getting any credit for creating jobs. Boy you guys on the right are so blind to the truth and you make up your own facts.

Forget the approaching fiscal cliff of Bush tax cuts for all ending, the debt ceiling being breached again, and the vast damages to the economy caused by sequestration due to the fact that these politicians don't want to do their job, but are simply into campaigning.

Mitt Romney’s campaign released details of his federal tax returns on Tuesday morning, showing that he is likely to pay a total of $6.2 million in taxes on $45 million in income over the two tax years of 2010 and 2011.
So what this is only 2 years. Liberals are just mad there isn't anything in there they can use. He created a lot of good jobs in his past. So be it. Give him credit and move on. Just think of it like this. He give you and your mothers $6.2 million. You should call and say thanks.
He is better than the community organisor we have now. 1 in 7 recieve food stamp or help from the gov. Obama just asked for a 42 percent increase in welfare funding over 2008 levels.

I find this hard to believe? I mean Mr.Romney is a devout Mormon and he even was a Bishop for the Mormon Church. They have strict rules that they are not allowed to violate. John McCain made a calculated gamble to go with Sarah Palin as he believe the business community would be mostly behind his candidacy, and he needed an inroad to the women's vote that had been traditionally going for the Democrat Party candidate as the promisors of social spending. He lost on both accounts, as Wall Street supported Obama's raising $750 million to outspend McCain 2-1, 3-1 in some swing states, garnering $487 million of that sum from Wall Street; and the votes by women, while a smaller share for Obama than Kerry received, put Obama over the finish line with his margin of victory.
I think Romney should release more of his tax returns.......just as soon as Obama and Holder release ALL documents related to Fast and Furious. You can't have it both ways in my opinion. I find it disingenuous to suggest Romney is hiding something with past returns while the President invokes executive privilege to withhold documents and that seemingly is fine. Let's end the childish games and advocate true transparency with all of our elected officials......Republican and Democrat.
They are crying for the last 12 years of his tax returns now, but they are also crying about not knowing anything about his 1999 full tax year activites now, which to my poor capabilities at math is more than 12 years ago. This is the problem that Romney faces, if you give an inch, they want a mile, Ryan.
I think much more important here would be to finally see Obama's highschool and college transcripts and to learn how he managed to pay for his education, board and room, and fees while attending Columbia and Harvard, and who he owes allegiance to for supporting him there.

There is a humorous similarity between Mr Romney's embrace of opposing statements (position at Bain, stance on healthcare reform, etc) and Woody Allen's character "Zelig." I think there may be a delightful segment there somewhere... though perhaps too subtle for Mr O'Donnell's scathing sense of irony and love of untenably juxtaposed opposites.

Obama did show his birth certificate. Get over it. Romney showing or not showing his taxes is a different matter. He is hiding unpatriotic activities. That simple. The guy seems to have no moral center. He has been caught in several lies and seems to tailor his statements (and beliefs) to fit whomever he is talking to at the time. If he has nothing to hide then there is zero harm in showing his tax returns--as his Father did and all other Presidential Candidates do. I don't want to is not a good enough reason not to. That simple.
In the end it does not matter because every time I watch him now I find I am not so much listening to what he is saying as I am in trying to figure out if he is telling the truth. A lot of the time I feel as if he isn't. Wehn you have "reset" so many times that people stop listening because they know your going to change 5 minutes from now you have lost all credibility. That makes him an ineffective leader.
I'd much rather know what Professors Obama studied under at Columbia and Harvard to give him his Nationalist Socialist perspective, and did he ever take anything at all in his studies (such as a Magement Practices Course or a Business or Public Administration and Finance Course)that might qualify him for the position he holds now; the Nations's Chief Execuive. Funny: I and the people I know are aware that they took most of our freedom away decades ago. Just the guys who make the rules don't seem to know that. They think its their job to keep making more and more restrictions on citizens.
Oh no, not all citizens. Now corporations are citizens, too. It has been the Republican fervor to remove ALL possible restrictions on business. Total deregulation of industry. Corporations have all the rights of citizens and more, with NO responsibilities of citizens. Most laws don't apply to them, and the law provides that they cannot be held accountable for what they do. Neither corporations (large ones, that is) or wealthy humans are held accountable for what they do, for the most part. Our lawmakers know what side their bread is buttered on. Well the ones who are on-board do. You know, the ones who have signed the pacts and agreed to vote with their party on just about everything, especially taxes, which ALWAYS must benefit the rich, and NEVER get raised, unless its on the middle class and below.
We don't want to talk about below. Poverty is such a nasty word. Its something that successful people, well, just don't want to think about. It could be contagious. It just feels dirty.
One of our most popular presidential candidates openly says he doesn't care about the very poor. He doesn't want to waste another tax dollar keeping the poor alive, when that money could increase the billions given annually to mega corporations like the oil and pharmaceutical companies, and provide badly needed additional tax breaks for the ultra rich. He wants to eliminate the food stamp program nationally, saying the states and local governments should attend to such unimportant details. Considering the number of nearly bankrupt state and local governments, he should be able to eliminate the very poor by the tens of millions across the country, as they start eating each other.
What he's not realizing is many of them will follow the advise from their posters and bumper stickers, and eat the rich. But that is where FEMA comes in, and Homeland security. Homeland security is really cracking down on US citizens lately, more than immigrants, it seems. Especially when it comes to getting social security benefits in recent years, most citizens have little chance. But of course, its the poor who need social security, and it would just be prolonging their pain, I suppose. Since they've been slated by some for elimination.
You know what Obama's problem is? He trusted Republicans would work with him to help fix the economy. You know what the Republicans did? They denied, sent back, filibustered, and shredded anything Obama sent them that help Americans, because it would make Obama look like he was delivering on his promises.
It might be worth your while Romney fans to take a look at just what your precious "We really care about you" Republican's have refused to vote on, or have denied.

Obama: "I'll cut the deficit in half by the end of my first term", "Your health insurance premiums will be cut by $2,500 by the end of my first term", "The Unemployment rate will be under 8% if you pass my $800 billion stimulus package, and down to 6% by the end of my first term"; how are all those promises working out for you Birdie? Nothing in meeting those promises has been stopped by the Republicans; its all the failures of Obama's vaunted programs that didn't work out for him..
This just in: June's retail sales results were provided today, and the picture was dismal! Losses in sales activites in all catagories, including the much vaunted uptick in the Automobile and Truck sector. This is especially troubling as this hurts at the local level of government that often relies so heavily on sales taxes for its operations. But if the people don't have jobs and income, and/or are extremely worried that they won't have those dollars to spend due to taxes going up and expenses like increased prices of gasoline and home heating oil and electricity due to a fool in the White House's anti fossil fuel energy policies and the increases being felt in health insurance premiums, they won't be spending.
The chance of Obama surviving in November are looking slimmer and slimmer which each release of economic data. No wonder all he want's to talk about is 1999 to 2002.
Why did Romney think his erroneous disclosure would not eventually be discovered? Did he think he would not have to submit his tax returns? What was and is he hiding? If this is an indicator of how he would "rule" the country? As a voter I want none of it. We lived through the secretive presidency of Richard Nixion isn't that enough???!!!
