President Obama presses Mitt Romney to be an "open book" about his personal finances — not only about his tax returns, but about the millions of dollars he has in investments overseas. This could be difficult, seeing that Romney doesn't "even know where they are." Here are some more stories we're looking at for the Last Word tonight:
- Mitt Romney assures us there's nothing special about tax returns he's not releasing
- Romney applies patented rubber/glue strategy to Bain outsourcing
- Chris Christie calls war on drugs a 'failure'
- Eric Holder: Voter ID laws are 'poll taxes'
- Romney tries to pry away some votes in N.A.A.C.P speech
- Denise Rich gives up U.S. Citizenship
- Bachmann: Muslim Brotherhood has 'penetrated' the U.S. Government
- 'Startling' rise in police requests for cell phone data

Lawrence could you and your team give us some air time. A group of concerned Citizens in Athens Ohio and the surrounding area are asking that there be a public forum before lands are leased for Fracking in the Wayne National Forest. We are asking that there be an Environmental Impact Study before any public lands are leased. Can you help us give us some air time?Back to the Wayne tomorrow
Wed., July 11,
3-6 p.m.
COME JOIN US for a presence at the Wayne National Forest during their open house. We will start the afternoon with a teach-in and continue to request a public forum. As it stands now, the Wayne will only have "stations" where ODNR, BLM, OEPA and the Wayne describe "management of oil and gas" to individuals and small groups.
Carpooling encouraged from Athens Community Center solar panels at 2:30, 3:30 and 5:00 (please stop by to pick up riders if you're heading out near these times). Bring signs to help find one another.
Bring a sunhat, water, VIDEO camera if you have one, and a kerchief for dipping in ice water. Signs welcome.
We will begin the afternoon with a teach-in while we continue to request a public forum.
In spite of thousands of petition signatures, hundreds of attendees at previous Wayne events, and many dozens of letters, phone calls, and formal visits from citizens to urge the Wayne to do an Environmental Impact study (EIS) with public input––as required by law––the Forest Service appears poised to move ahead without an EIS, claiming an EIS will come after leasing. This is nonsensical and illegal, since the EIS must evaluate whether to lease. Deep shale drilling and horizontal fracturing have not been evaluated by the Wayne for potential impacts on the forest, drinking water supplies, or our local economy. Wayne pr also only mentions being responsible for surface impacts, ignoring its responsibility to protect OUR DRINKING WATER. (see documents at acfan.org)
And if you haven’t, please call Wayne officials today to request a public forum: 740-753-0101. Their open house allows only for one-to-one conversations with officials and no chance for citizens to hear one another or officials' responses to others.
