Lawrence please help me reply to this Facebook posting from one of my Right wing friends. "21 New taxes under the new health care law, thanks" I know it's already two years old, but where in God's name are they getting 21 new taxes from???
Lots of big an little taxes were included as means of "paying" the costs of the (Un)affordable Care Act, Andy. Anything from the penaltys on small and large businesses of 50 or over employees, to the individual penaltys, to taxes on investments, taxes on medical devices, taxes on funds that used to be covered by deductions if deposited in a Health Savings Account, etc.etc. I've heard up to 30 new taxes all told, and that will have to raise an estimated $800 billion over 10 years, with 75% of that paid by individuals with incomes under $200,000 a year, making yet another lie told by Obama in the selling and reselling of this awful bill of goods!
Lawrence O'Donnell was right all along -- the de minimis quality of the 'penalty' and the lack of an enforcement mechanism, made the Commerce class and the individual mandate issue MOOT... THIS is a tribute to Lawrence O'Donnell's scholarship and integrated understanding of the law, policy issues on healthcare, public finance, and Senate process.... HE IS A GREAT AMERICAN!
There is nothing "American" about this Act, and this decision, and certainly nothing "Great" to celebrate either, bbbb brain.
