I suppose many people have stopped watching your on line edition as well. ;] Are you Lawrence EVER going to get your on line staff together in order to get your on line material together? Hmm. Why is everything STILL out of order. Your losing viewers. ; ]
Cheers
Other than TRMS, most of the MSNBC programs don't play online in their correct order. A pain in the rump, but the content is what matters.
I disagree. Why on earth do I or anyone care about on line exclusive after the show extra comments, WHEN, we have no frame of reference for them. Are there spoiler alerts for them if we have not yet seen the show? Hmm. Indeed. Further more I must recognize that from one story to the next you have continuations of the first segment of the show two to three or more clips down the row.
Impossible to be entertained let alone learn anything if that is in fact the case. Content I agree is NOT the problem. Which is WHY I am addressing this one. My fellow Irishmen is very on point and like-able. But somethings are inherently irritating by no fault of the afore mentioned and simply UN ignorable to coin a phrase.
To end with the beginning as it were those who only get to watch on line would care very much to see the show as presented and THEN watch the on line exclusives to once again,.. Have a frame of reference without the spoiler affect. ; ]
Cheers
I'm not sure the pundit's pundit has a case to make against Arizona's Governor, or that state's beleagured state and county police officials. They, with New Mexico, Texas and California, are at the mercy of their still porous borders with Mexico, that illegal immigrants of all North, Central, and South American nations and some other parts of the world are using their states as entry points to live in the USA, whether it's in the shadows as an illegal immigrant, or brazenly living openly in "sanctuary cities" (like Chicago, the current President of the United States's home city).
Here is how the Sherrif of Cochise County, Arizona put it last night. When they apprenend someone who is committing a crime (like driving without a license), they attempt to ascertain if that person is a legal resident of the State. If the person has no proper identification and admits or is suspected of being an illegal immigrant, they call the INS officals and report that they have an undocumented (hence, illegal) law breaker in their custody (actually a 2x loser of a law breaker, as that individual committted a felony in coming into the country without a proper visa in the first place). INS may or may not come to get that illegal immigrant. When they do come to take them off the hands of the local police authorities, they often assign a court date some months in the future, and then release the individual back into the community.
Only the worst criminals or the most inept recedivists of these law breakers ever get detained and eventually deported by the INS officials. For the local police officials, its a revolving door problem, ascertain that an individual who breaks the law in their county is not properly documented to be in the country, attempt to turn them over to the INS, if successful in having the INS actually come to pick them up from the local authorities, they usually find that individual back on their streets again within 48 hours. Now, to make things worse, after the ruling by SCOTUS affirming that the core of the Arizona legislation that allows for local police to do the job of assisting the Federal Government in identifying and detaining suspected illegal immigrants is constitutional in its legal state, the Justice Department is simply saying that when the local authorities call, they may or may not take action to have the individual transferred into their processes.
The Obama administration blatently is taking a stand against protecting our southern borders. That's maintained in the redent Executive Order to stop processing deportation or any legal action against individuals under the age of 30 who submit that they were here before the age of 16. Admittedly, only 4 out of 10 illegal immigrants arrive in the US by crossing our borders illegally, but at the rate of 1,000,000 a year still, that's a very signifigant number of individuals who will be living illegally in the US, taking jobs away from unemployed job seeking residents, and potentially breaking other laws (such as obtaining driver's licenses fradualently, with stolen or countefeited identifications), and burdening local, state, and federal tax payer supported social network of education, health care, and basic sustenance assistance.
When this problem is intensified and concentrated in states like California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas (and increasingly in other states of the Southwest such as Colorado, Utah and Nevada, and Oklahoms) it presents as in need of solutions. Instead, we have a concious decision by our Federal Government under the executive direction of an individual who has decided to use the problem population of illegal immigrants as a potential aide to getting relected, by appealing to the support of the Hispanic voters for t by the direction in which he has steered the federal government response, which is no response at all to the problem. We have become, less than five months out from the election, a sanctuary nation.
But at least Arizona is secure after winning their suit against the Federal Government in having the core aspect of local police action to attempt to stem the tide of illegals immigrants causing havoc with their state, now. And there will be more states following that example!
Nice story totally out of date and just not true but nice story
It's going to be the wild wild west. I won't be surprise if Arizona will have the lowest concentration of illegal immigrants in the next 3 yrs.
The greatest fallacy which exists with comments on Arizona ruling by the SCOTUS reveals an allusion to racial insensitivity. Even Lawrence O'Donnell, whom I normally agree with, conveys error through his non-Brown or dark skin. In practice, the part of AZ. law upheld says if one is stopped for any reason by law enforcement, from an infraction to a capital felony, it must be accompanied by American citizenship status inquiry. This implicitly communicates carry your papers to avoid probable harassment. For Mr. O'Donnell to say Obama won entirely misses the point. It's not about whether Obama won or lost to Brewer on this issue, it's about what the Brown & Black American citizen will be forced to endure if living in or driving through AZ. Our dark skin coupled with logic says if driving to Texas from Los Angeles, it's best to go around AZ. The SCOTUS provided a cover for racial profiling that seemingly only a person of color can fully understand. We hope all who endeavor to comment on this issue have lived it, for anything less epitomizes racial insensitivity.
Why not just carry your visas (if you are a documented legal worker) or a wallet sized version of your birth certificates or naturaliztion papers (if you are a legal US citizen) instead of whining or going out of your way? Legal residents of every color or ethnic group in California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas have huge problems with illegal immigrants from nations south of their borders, and the Federal government is not doing the job of protecting those states and the country at large from that impact.
In fact, just today Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napalitano went into tantrum mode and announced that INS won't be enforcing the immigration laws on any Arizona police held illegal immigrants unless they are accused of felony crimes. So if one is stopped for speeding while driving intoxicated and without a valid license, and not having documented proof of legal status in the state and country, INS won't take that individual into processing from now on!
Does that sound like the route to reelection? Just how desperate is Obama anyhow?
Contrary to popular right wing opinions, I happen to believe you and Bill Mahr are nothing short of brilliant...and it all starts with telling the truth and going from there. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and to me neither gentleman displays the "ugliness" of liberalism.
Regarding Governor Jan Brewer; I'm wondering if she is over-medicated? There has to be uniformity of law in this republic and "states rights" smacks of racism of the ugliest sort. If blondes with blue eyes were the minority, and had to present papers if stopped for a minor traffic offense, perhaps people would understand how that feels. Having an accent, or a hispanic surname doesn't make you an illegal immigrant. The world is changing, and diversity is the name of the game in 2012. As Dr. King stated many years ago, people should be judged by the content of their character, and not the color of their skin. For a nation who is quick to proclaim its "Christian Values," most do not display any "Christ-like" attributes.
Jesus performed many miracles...he fed the hungry, healed te sick and raised the dead. He was human, yet divine. He loved his enemies, and rebuked the MONEY CHANGERS in GODS' HOUSE. "The love of money is the root of all evil." Those laws of decency are thousands of years old, and still, some of us don't get it.
The moral of the discourse is "judge ye not, lest ye stand in danger of the judgement, love thy neighboor as thyself, and thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighboor." Live the life you profess to believe in people, and stop letting color get in the way. All blood is red...and the Spirit, that life force that deems one is alive, has no color.
Carolyn— If you drive are you legally required to carry a valid drivers license? Also valid registration? Valid auto tabs? Valid current insurance card?If you are stopped for a violation are you required by law to produce these documents? Your argument is mute.
Blondes with blue eyes are a minority, Carolyn. That is why they are so highly in demand! LOL!
I hope that Mr. O'Donnell is correct that the one contoversial part of SB 1070 that was upheld by the Suprme Court, is eventually thrown out by the Supreme Court. How do you have a reasaonable suspicion that someone is in the country illegally unless you watched them cross the border. I can't see how this provision can be enforced without asking every person who doesn't have a good command of the English language to show the officer who stopped him/her proof that he/she has a right to be in the Country.
In response to Mr. Roll's mentioning what we all have to carry around with us, those documents that Mr. Roll mentions are related to the operation of the motor vehicle that we are driving. What does having to show that you have the proper documentation to operate that motor vehicle have to do with showing that you are legally in the country. What's next. When we are stopped for a speeding ticket, will we have to prove that our vaccinations are up to date, or that we are taking all of the medicines that our doctor prescribes. In my opinion, being stopped for something as minor as a speeding ticket or a busted tail light, should not open one up to being asked about one's immigration status.
After I read Mr. Longey's comments I decided that I had to post some other comments, since so much of what Mr. Longey, said is either factually incorrect, or I just flat out disagree with him on. First of all, Mr. Longey claims that entering the country illegally is a felony. Under Federal Law, entering the country illegally is not a felony, not even a criminal matter. It is only repeated illegal entry into the country that constitutes a criminal matter.
Secondly, I take exception with the whole idea that the President's approach to enforcing this Country's immigration laws is somehow compromising this country's ability to protect itself from illegal immigrants. The President's whole policy, all along, has been to focus on deporting illegal immigrants who have both entered the Country illegally, and committed a serious crime, rather than deporting every landscaper and child who entered the country illegally. I see this as a very good strategy, since it removes those individuals from the country who are a real threat to our security as a country. I actually see young people who are in the country illegally, but want to go to college, or join the military, as an asset to our country. They should be given a path to citizenship, not deported.
In terms of illegal immigrants causing a financial drain on government assistance programs, that is not true, since they are not eligible to receive most government assistance programs. In terms of spending money on illegal immigrant children, I believe that it is money well spent, since she children may grow up to be tomorrow's leaders. Also, anyone who lives in this country for any significant period of time pays a whole lot of money in taxes, regardless of whether or not they pay any income taxes. Therefore, just like anyone else who is a resident of a community, they deserve to have their children educated by the local school regardless of their children's educational status.
