When did the Nazi's take over this country? No one ever remembers the history of this world or nation. What I mean is this: The Nazi's use to demand papers from the Jews. They put big stars on them, branded them with numbers, while they ripped apart families, snatchng children from their families. I also mean in this country: the slave owners sold children from their families, branded the run aways as well. So we are now repeating the past all over again, demanding their papers when they left the plantations. So what is next, brand the illegals with a big I, while we participate in separating families again? The Supreme Court decision almost insures this fact. We have learned nothing. Repeating our past all over again. Same thing we did to the Native Americans, the original Americans.
Thank God for Lawrence. After reading and listening to a dozen or so muddled, baffling accounts of the SB1070 ruling, he nailed the two key conclusions in a matter of minutes.
1. The ruling was a clear victory for opponents of the law. It did NOT uphold the key "papers please" provision, it actually struck it down and explicitly banned use of race as a basis for establishing reasonable cause for suspicion that someone is illegal.
2. Justice Scalia has gone off the deep end.
Do you realize that the federal laws state that non citizens in the country under lawful visas must present their documents when requested? The Supreme Court decision sijply said the State of Arizona couldn't assume the authority of the Federal Governament to make their state and local police the requesting officials. If they apprenhend an individual in the course of other legal actions of investigation or enforcement of criminal activity (such as driving without a license) and suspect that the individual does not have proper documentation, they must turn the individual over to INS to make the investigation into whether or not the proper documentation (i.e. a visa) is in the individual's possession.
"The Last Word" is the go to joint. O'Donnell's an actual Democrat. He's not a corporate Obama bashing "liberal" or a shape shifting political quick change artist. He's just a Democrat, a real one, and it's time for real.
