Former Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich stood up for birthers saying there is no racism behind their thoughts. MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell explains what's really going on with this Republican electoral strategy.
Rewriting Newt's defense of birtherism

Still playing the distraction from the real issues of the election game, hmmm O'Donnell and MSNBC" How about discussing those issues that Romney, the Republican Party nominee (he did clinch that yesterday with the primary victories, you know?) is talking about, the massive debt, the failed Obama socialized spending attempts to spur private sector growth while he further swells the bloated federal government with unbudgetted more unbudgetted spending, and with his misguided war on America's development of our rich fossile fuel resources.
Romney has made his position abundantly clear on the "birther" questions; he states again and again when questioned that he believes Obama is an American citizen and fully entitled to hold the office of President. 'Nuf said" Everything else on this subject is empty sensationalism, and a waste of time!
Spoken like a true, delusional teabagging conservitard ... Congrats ...
Yeah, and Mr. WishWashy of course wouldn't dare question what Mr. Moneybags says, for fear of losing some money. He doesn't particularly care if his campaign follows his own beliefs and creeds, so long as the bucks keep rolling in. Whatta hypocrite!
Obama has already won illinois. Chicago (guess who) will make sure that enough dead people will vote to give the state to Obama. This is only fair and just, This conclusion is based on what fundamental baptists believe: "If you believe it, it is true".
The neocons would obviously disagree, but it is what it is. Honest hearts would not argue with the truth of the matter.
Thank you for presenting a succinct and factual assessment, Lawrence. Well done.
"Former Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich stood up for birthers saying there is no racism behind their thoughts."
LMAO ... says the wanna-be Grand Wizard of the KKK ...
Last night while listening to this guy he does everything but talk about the issue as to why people disagree with the policies of the POTUS. Obviously America voted Barack Obama into office 4 years ago. That does not happen unless their is a fundamental shift in white America's tolerance for black people in elected positions. Newt was right in saying that just as there are some whites that won't vote for Obama merely because of his skin color, on this flip side the same is true about about the black people voting for President Obama. And MSNBC is going to bang this drum of racism to death. Shame on MSNBC for trying to stigmatize anyone for being principled in their beliefs.
This is because MSNBC does not want to talk about the economy and jobs. Instead they try and assert social indictments against people's motives for not towing their desperate liberal line.
Really pathetic and patronizing to the average American's intelligence. That is why the GOP needs to stay united and ignore this MSNBC sensationalism.
Gop/TP can stay united, but please stop their lies. Black have bben voting for years in this country. To say that black people are voting for skin color is wrong. This is the first black president. So who were they voting for before President Obama. Critic that is why the GOP can not ever secure a portion of the black voting block, they ignore it until they think they really need it. Willard can't make it with out a minority voting block. Women, Hispanics, Blacks, Gays, Willard needs help.
Women aren't a minority...their longer longevity and less likelihood to die early due to nazardous occupations including combat arms in the military make of them a majority of voters. LBGT adults make up only 3.2% of the population by self identification demographic studies, so there is no need to go drilling there for votes, pandering to their agendas. Obama can have them as he is good enough at that having "etch a sketced" in desperation this month on their agenda of gay marriage "rights". A supporter of gay marriage as an Illinois legislator, then against it and for civil unions only as a Presidential candidate in 2008, he has "evolved" in his political calcuulations to support it again. Talk about being unprincipaled!
As to black voters and hispanics voters, the GOP got their share of the former voting for their candidates thru the years, and more than their share of the latter. You seem to forget that George Bush and John McCain were the only people that have led the fight to obtain a comprehensive immigration reform bill through Congress. And other than the Left Coast state of California, that $16 billion dollar bankrupt state due largely to the social spending on illegal immigrant populations in their "progressive" manner thru the years, wherever there are large populations of hispanic citizens and voters in other states, those state Republicans and GOP Presidential candidates do pretty well; exp. Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona.
If you haven't noticed, the most recent polls find that Obama's lead amongst women voters, once 21%, has shrunk to only 10% which is 2/3rds of what he enjoyed as his margin of victory in that demographic sector over John McCain, Seems the fact that women workers have done so poorly under Obama's aborted attempts to jump start the economy by ramping up deficit spending that they are now leaving that camp in droves, especially the married ones. So ends the infamous Democrat Party charade of the 'War on Women'; "not with a bang, but a whimper" to quote T.S. Eliot.
And the one true minority, much maligned by the rag tag collection of strident black and feminist and gay supporters of Obama, the white, single or married male voter aint buying any of his crapolla!
Uh Grandpa, let's call the nice gentlemen in white coats, okay? We'll make sure they're white as well...
The figures on the rate of LGBT individuals ranges from five to ten percent, but if you don't believe the number you gave excludes a lot of people who choose to "remain in the closet" or in denial, then we've got another area of your warped cognitive processes we can address.
And zowee, look at that "poor little white guy" manure you're tossing (and if you're going to borrow made-up words I used like "crapola" at least spell them correctly; you wouldn't look quite so stupid).
Give us the figures on the percentages of white males in white collar jobs in this country, in all levels of politics, and elsewhere, okay?
For a "downtrodden minority," white guys seem to be doing fairly well...
Get off the cross; we need the wood...
Well, I realize you count yourself as one of the few that are still in denial as to you sexual identification, Cab Driver, but I'm citing respected demographic researchers that found that 3.2% figure was the result of a anonymous response comprehensive survey with appropriate statistical controls, so their shouldn't be the need for any responders to be "in the closet". Hey, if one hasn't admitted to ones self that there is something queer about one's sexual self identification, they can hardly wrap thermselve in the boa and join the gay parade, can they?
Of course, you don't realize that many white males with superior credentials have had to take a second class status in education institution admissions and employment entry and promotion as the "diversity" approach so favored by the sociologists of affirmatitive action has reigned supreme in many quarters since the 60s. Now, especially with the majority of college admissions and graduations going to women far above the number of males, they are beginning to obtain the paths to success in the job markets. The fact that so many decide still to not work the overtime hours, or take on the travel that their jobs often require to be with their families has continued to be a disadvantage for them, but they are gaining.
Except under the Obama economy, where 90% of the 5,000,000 jobs lost have been lost by women as the private sector and even the public sector has required people to work more overtime and be more productive in order ot meet the challenges of the competing in the global economy.
It's Gay Pride Weekend the next few days on Planet Utah, Grandpa. I'm comfortable enough with my manhood (and hey, at my age, having a teenage daughter is no mean feat) I can swap one-liners with any of them. And the tips flow...
I'm thinking I should give them your name for the "Glitter Bomb" list... I'll just show them your bigoted rants here.
Right now they've got the leaders of the LDS Church on the run, scaring them with a mass resignation planned the end of June. That's in reply to the Prop 8 debacle which cost god-knows-how-much to litigate.
And incidentally, I had lunch with this cartoonist's brother today (who's a prize-winning historian).

Finally, if you knew what you were talking about, you would've known the data I provided just rendered your claim of "statistical controls" nonsense.
The only "data" you presented was a "guess" that the number of LBGT's in the nation "ranged from 5% to 10%". Guesses are not data. Are you ready to guess as to what the percentage of blacks and hispanics are in the country (the ones that are eligible to vote, of course)? I've actually seen the demographic data from the US Census. You couldn't be bothered to look for it, I'm sure.
Your vocabulary term for day is "estimate." Or alternately, "educated guess."
I simply summarized the findings of as many studies as I could find, while you focused on a single one, not surprising considering your pronounced cherry-picking tendencies. You really ought to come out of the closet with that one.
Now what does the percentage of blacks and hispanics have to do with the quesiton? I know those numbers feed your paranoia, but that's not my problem.
Why, the percentages seem to be of great importance to MSNBC and the Obama Reelection campaign, Cab Driver, as instead of being the Transformational President that was going to unite the country, you choice of the next President of the USofA is running on strictly a Base Interst Group dividing campaign, and the Democrats in the Senate are leading the way with mock legislative innitiative that they know can not pass but are putting forth in the hopes it will gain the attention and allegiance of the mostly young, unmarried, childless women, Hispanic voters and non voters alike, Black voters, and LBTG in descending order of size and influence in the government policies and practices. Of course, as a total group, these splinter interest groups can't compare with the straight heterosexual population (especially the ones of religious conviction), white male voters, the senior citizen voters, the married women with children and grandchildren, and the growing numbers of unemployed individuals of all pursuasions, including hispanic and black voters that realize this Democrat Party Administration and stalling Senate Majority has done them absolutely no good, for all the hope they had in the Hope and Change Candidate of 2008 that has shown himself to be so inept at managing his own executive branch, as well as steer policies of importance like budgets, tax reform, energy programs that further the development of our natural resources or access to those of our immediate neighbors in NAFTA, Canada and Mexico, and a relieve from the crushing regulations and threats of further deficits and taxes increases to cover them as the runaway social spending goes on and on and on!
I can't understand the air time Gingrich is still being given. He is a bore, I can't stand his voice or his looks, and his partisan comments are from the same script as all the RightWing locksteppers, or should I say goosesteppers (yeah, I know Godwin's Rule). Frankly every time an MSNBC program has him scheduled, like a lot lately, I turn off the station and go to Current where there are some rational liberals at work. I almost threw up at Matthews' show yesterday. I will now not ever turn Matthews' show on again!
You realize that the only reason MNSBC books Gingrich is because they believe he will say something derogatory about Romney, having had his head handed to him by that Nominee of the Republican Party for President. But 'ol Newt just smiles, and says: "Romney is tough!"
And as to Obama and that Chicago hood Axelrod who just got his head handed to him in his appearance today in Massachusetts by a crowd of vocal Romney supporters who drowned out his pi** poor attempts to run down the former Governor's record in that state (while Obama was an inefficient State Legislator voting "present" in so many ballots in the State Legilature of Illinois, and a still learning where his office was in his initial still wet behind the those big ears two years in the Senate); the antagonistic crowd shouted out "Where are the jobs! and Solyndra!...over and over again as Axelrod stuggled through his prepared talking points; those two suckers are going down!! LOL!
The "crowd of vocal Romney supporters" of which you speak, as well as your misguided self really need to take your "Where are the jobs!" queries to former President Bush, and his thug Chaney. While you bunch of broccoli for brains are asking that, maybe you should also throw in some additional questions, like, I dunno, how about "What was your lie, (er I mean excuse) Mr. Bush for getting us involved in a war we had no business being involved with? (that is still costing us billions)" Or maybe ask Bush how he can live with himself after leaving this country in such a disaster as he did?" Or better yet, ask Bush why he couldn't capture and kill Bin Ladin. Then you morons could ask Chaney how much he profited from sending our troops into battle? Everything that the current administration is cleaning up is/was a direct result of actions or lack of action by Bush. It is because of the ignorance, misguidance, greed and the poor judgement/choices of the Bush administration that our country is teetering on the edge. Obama was just foolish enough to think he could dig us out of that grave that Bush had dug. Take your crap & your lies elsewhere - they would be warmly received over at Fox.
By the way, nobody has to attempt to 'run down the former Governor's record in that state'. His record is what it is. He needs no help in running it down, he did a fine job all on his own.
Well, I'm glad you agree with Bill Clinton that Romney did a fine job as Governor of Massachusetts. You do know that the improvements to Education K-12 and the free access to state supported higher education institutions to the top 25% of graduating high school students while cutting taxes and balancing the budgets from the inital 1.6 billion deficit run up by the Democrat Party legislator before Romney took office were certainly successful. Interesting that Romney was able to finally get rid of the decade old surtax on the sales tax in Massachusetts, reducing the tax to its original 5%, and thne his succussor Patrick Duval (Chicago friend of Barrack Obama) has raised it to 6.5%? while running up the deficit again?
And as to the much trunpeted 47th place rank in the nation of the RATE of job growth in Massachusetts during the Governor's term of office, it was at 51% rank, the very bottom, counting the District of Colimbia in 2002 when Romney ran for office, and when he left office the total number of jobs gained in the state was over 50,000, making the ranked rate in his last year 30th in the nation?
Alan Greenspan at the Federal Reserve and the Democrats in the Clinton Administration and Congress, especially Barney Frank and Chris Dodd did more to sink the control of the growing like topsy credit default derivative leverage and gambling instruments in the late 90s than anything President Bush and his Vice President did. And everyone, including the Dems and Repubs for both Clinton Administrations and both Bush Admimistrations in and out of government bought into the great economic engine of the housing bubble. And as of yet, the Dodd-Frank Bill has done relatively nothing to remedy those abuses, as we see that the games on Wall Street continue.
As to the Iraq War argument, well ask our allies in Europe, Pepe, and iraq's immediate neighbors in the Arab Penisulla if they are pleased that Saddam Hussien and his military dictatorship are gone, and a democratic parlimentary government that is our ally is in place in Iraq. What do you think the springboard of the fervor for freedom in the Arab Spring is all about, Pepe? It comes from the anti ruthless military dictatorship defeat of that outlaw regime, and the institution of the beginning freedoms all individuals seek. Was the spread of freedom worth the price? We've paid it before, and will pay it again, if faced with a dangerous military despotism again, such as what could be growing in Russia, China, and Iran under this present Administration which is stepping back continuously from leadership on the world stage!
If your argument is that we would live in a safer world by reducing the size of our defense budgets, try it our first in your own community, and reduce the size of your local police department and disarm them, and see if that gives you a greater sense of safety and peace.
