Charges of voter suppression are only growing in the state of Florida. As we reported yesterday on The Last Word, that state's Republican Governor Rick Scott is being accused of leading a "misguided" purge of the voter registration rolls. You can see our report in the video above. Florida officials have put together a list of around 180,000 people they believe are not U.S. citizens and should not be allowed to vote.
State election officials have already sent out thousands of letters telling some Florida residents that the state does not consider them citizens. Two Congressional Democrats from Florida, Rep. Ted Deutch and Rep. Alcee Hastings, are fighting back on behalf of those who say they are being unfairly targeted.
But the state's election office says more names are still yet to come. The Miami Herald reports:
Chris Cate, a spokesman for (Florida's) Division of Elections, defended the state’s actions. “It’s very important we make sure ineligible voters can’t cast a ballot,” he said in an email to the Herald on Tuesday.
He said the state continues to identify ineligible voters, saying the state Division of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles has agreed to update information using a federal database that the elections division couldn’t access directly.
“We won’t be sending any new names to supervisors until the information we have is updated, because we always want to make sure we are using the best information available,” Cate wrote. “I don’t have a timetable on when the next list of names will be sent to supervisors, but there will be more names.”
The Miami Herald also reported earlier this month that minorities, Democrats, and independents were more likely to be scrutinized in this voter purge.

These are just some of the isolated incidents, the system is not perfect. But we still desperately need a voter ID law because there's just too much fraud.
Put down the Kool-Aid.
It's always an isolated incident until it happen to you Cindy-3358832. Bet you would sing a new tune if someone told you your vote doesn't count.
Buddy, if you're not a citizen then your vote doesn't count. Brother Larry talks about how the man is a veteran, a Democrat, a Bronze Star recipient. Why doesn't he talk about whether or not Mr. "Internicola" is a damn citizen? LOL.
What's the problem with Rick Scott telling people to prove their citizenship? These idiots should be glad that the system is working. They're not just mailing letters to random people.
Illegals do not deserve to vote. Non-citizens do not deserve to vote. Anybody who says otherwise is a damn fool.
Ask a conservitard for verifiable, irrefutable proof of voter fraud and all you get that "deer caught in the headlights" look.
List of Names??? Anyone else reminded about the HUAC trials here?
Seriously, what is this? A blacklist of voting?
He who does not learn from History is doomed to repeat it.
Ever hear of voter registration lists, ignorant clown?
@ Cindy-3358832 Too much fraud, really Texas said the same thing, we have had two in the last 50 years. This hardly isolated but Florida is know for cheating in elections just ask Al Gore.
If Gore had carried his home state where they knew him best, he would have been elected President! Kerry believes that somehow Ohio's votes were manipulated to keep him out of the White House also. What a bunch of crybabies. That image of Gore as a broken man; withdrawn, growing his beard, gaining even more weight while his wife waited for him to man up and get on with his life was really pathetic, and that character weakness was probably the reason (other than Clinton and the "devil with the 'blue' dress on") along with the dotcom bubble burst recession of 1999 that lost him the voters support, in Tennesse and in Florida.
Thank god George Bush was President when 9/11 hit us, and not that panty waist sissy Gore that even Tipper got around to dumping!
There is NO voter fraud problem. It's been investigated many times in several states. This is a "solution" to a problem that doesn't exist. The Fascist Republican Party just wants to supress the turnout among those who typically don't vote for them. This is very familiar - something like pre-war Germany and Italy.
Notice that Mr. Internicola and Ms. Russo are American Democrats of Italian descent. So, what does that tell you ? I wonder if the Rubio family got these letters ?
Point
Well, we are all "American Democrats" of some ethnic or racial persuasion with heritages that can be traced back to our or our forefathers' (and mothers') country of origin, except the native Americans, of course (oh, I see, you meant to say they are members of the Democrat Party!).
This issue over having individuals show their proofs of citizenship has come about because of the failure of our nation in this great technological age of ours to come up with a means of dealing with our large illegal immegrant population, and the theft of identities that is so rampant in our 21st Century America.
I wish they would not require ID to vote. Im a regestered votor but I somtimes I dont vote. Used to I could sell my votor reistrtion card for like 50 bucks. Now we have to show ID so Im the only one who can vote with my card.
We must do all we can to prevent this election from being stolen. Please take a look at this petition.

Anyone who thinks that voter fraud is rampant, then you all need to do some research. Governor Rich Scott is about as criminal a Governor there is. During his run for his election, he admitted the Medical lab company he owns had defrauded the Medicare & Medicaid systems and had to pay a fine in the millions of dollars. He appealed to the ignorant/woman hating right wingers, as he was running against a woman, to vote for him and he would redeam himself by doing good things for the Floridians. Since he won by a narrow margin, he wants to manipulate the voter's abilities to vote in the next election. His company is now in his wife's name and they have the contract to do all the lab testing of the Welfare recipients of FL, to determine if they're using drugs and will become then ineligible, which was a law he had put in place. The Taxpayers fork over millions of dollars for these testings which has turned up an almost uncalculateable low figure of drug users on welfare....even if they continued to use drugs their benefits wouldn't come close to the amount spent on the lab testing. The nation needs to investigate this guy...he is as vile as they come and the intent is to supress the ability to vote...has nothing to do with protecting us from voter fraud, which is a miniscule amount anyway.
Is this real? oh yea he's GOP you can't put nothing past them
I wonder how many of these names that are being "purged" in a vowel or "-ez"?
