Colorado Republican Mike Coffman, who's in a tight race to keep his congressional seat, fanned the crazy town birther flames at a recent fundraiser and is now paying the price.
"I don't know whether Barack Obama was born in the United States or not," he told informed the crowd of conservative voters. "I don't know. But I do know that in heart he is not an American. He's just not an American."
The Republican later issued an apology saying, "I misspoke and I apologize." Ever since, he's been avoiding reporters and all public events — that is, until a local NBC reporter caught up with him on the street.
That's when the robot switch came on and he repeated the same talking points over-and-over again instead of explaining his accusations against President Obama. Did not compute request. Please restart.

I really think that the appropriate question to Rep. Coffman would have been (and still is): "What, sir, is it that you "misspoke" about? That you "don't know"; or "...that in (his) heart he is not an American. He's just not an American." Who Coffman was apologizing to, or who told him not to comment, are mere distractions to the main point: What is it that Rep. Coffman is now admitting that he "misspoke" about.
Remember, there were enough "Believers" to vote for this guy. And I will bet my bottom dollar that voter turnout was low for his election. Moral: GET OUT THE VOTE! Democracy is NOT a Spectator Sport.
There is nothing in (R)Coffman's response that says whether or not he believes Obama is an American at heart.

Martin, this is what happened. Kaufman decided to go rogue and say something offscript but what happened afterwards was his hand was slapped for being a bad boy. Housing costs are rising, foresclosures have pretty much returned to normal levels Gas is less than it was during most of the Bush years when we were constantly informed that the president did not control gas prices. Obamacare has extended health coverage to millions of Americans and will continue to do so despite the billions spent by republicans to paint it as something it isn't. Remember it is modelled on Romneycare. Unemployment is steadily declining, the deficit is decreasing. The Acorn fiasco was exposed as Republican fraud (no surprise there) The Catholic Church is making a big deal refusing to do something it has already been doing for decades. Bill Maher is a liberal comedian who is at least accurate unlike Rush and Beck who simply make it up as they go. The reverend Wright has long since retired. Obama's contact with Ayres was minimal, decades ago and Ayres has never been charged with or convicted of a crime unlike some republican governors we know of. (Romney knew Warren Jeffers a convicted terrorist). As for the downturn in our credit rating, that was deliberately orchestrated by the Republican house of Representatives who have openly stated that they will stop at nothing to destroy this president.
