Fighting off accusations of taking part in a legislative war on women, 24 Republican congresswomen united to form the Women's Policy Committee. And today, the caucus launched a new web video highlighting their shared beliefs.
According to a press release, the main goal is "raising the profile of GOP women in their roles as lawmakers, highlighting their diverse achievements and providing a unique, unified voice on a wide range of critically important issues."
Like, women's rights issues for starters? Advocacy groups have slammed Republican lawmakers for staying quiet on these issues in the past. The intro video, “Working For You,” also fails to mention any policies specifically related to females.
Their collective voting record isn't much better. Think Progress pulled together a round-up of these politicians' stats on women’s rights issues:
Violence Against Women: Of the 24 women, 22 voted to rollback the Violence Against Women Act, backing a version of the bill that could violate the confidentiality of victims and that excluded protections for immigrants, LGBT people, and Native Americans.
Access to contraception: 21 of the 24 co-sponsored the “Respect for Rights of Conscience Act” to take away regulations enacted under Obamacare requiring most employers to cover birth control in their health insurance plans, without additional cost-sharing.
Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act: Of the 15 Republican Congresswomen who were in the House at the time, all 15 voted against the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009, a law that helps women hold accountable employers who discriminate in the pay practices based on gender.
Paycheck Fairness Act Act: 13 of those 15 also voted against the Paycheck Fairness Act, which would update the 1963 Equal Pay Act by closing many of its loopholes and strengthening incentives to prevent pay discrimination.
Reproductive health: According to Planned Parenthood, 20 of the 24 GOP women earned a zero score, voting against reproductive health at every opportunity. The average score for the women was under 6 percent.
In a statement, House Speaker John Boehner said, "Make no mistake, these aren't just leaders on so-called 'women's issues,' these are women leaders on all issues."

Well, that is Republicans for you - opposing things like the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and opposing extending the Violence Against women Act protections to all women. But it is also true that too many define women's rights solely in terms of abortion. Did you know that many pro-life Democrats (including Bart Stupak himself) were co-sponsors of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act? It is an absolute tragedy that these staunch defenders of equal pay were smeared by the abortion industry's allies. The list is is on my webpage at
If you didn't miss it, the Republicans support the repassing of the Defense Against Violence against Women Act, as soon as the Democrats scrap their poison the act amendments of giving illegal female immigrants unlimited protection against deportation until their mal batterors are brought to justice (keeping them undefintely on the public doll in the interim). Objectionable to is the non-federally relevant of extending the provisions of the Defense against Violence to Women of Lesbian's, Bisexual's, Transgendered, and Gay individuals who have chosen to in unrecognized or unlicensed relationships with those who assault them, as that group of individuals outside of married relationships have the perfectly widely available state criminal assault and battery and social provisions to support them.
Stretched to its natural interpretation, if the Act passed as the Democrats intend it to with those two offending amendments, a gay male illegal immigrant living in an unlicensed relationship with another male who assaults him would be given coverage under the provisions of the Defense Against Violence to Women Act, and on the public doll; even to include as at present ruling of the Obama Administration authorities overseeing our Immigration Enforcement Programs to continue on the U.S. taxpayers dime the very expensive transgendered hormone and planned surgery of illegal immigrant males intending to become females (or vice a versa...with an emphasis on the vice as these individuals usually support themselves in prostitution activities). Like that is a good use of your or my tax dollars instead of finishing building the FENCE!
As to the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, the Senate Republicans simply want to debate it, and offer amendments, which Harry Reid has refused to even negotiate on. And I believe Mitt Romney, the presumed Republican Party candidate has said he does support its passage.
So what does that leave you with other than Democrat Party obsfurcating politics as usual as they simply look to foster campaign issues out of these pieces of legislation instead of just getting down to the business of passing them in a widely acceptable foremat.
The link did not post for some reason. Google "Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act" and "pro-life Democrats" to find the list of co-sponsors of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair pay act who were pro-life Democrats - supporters of the Stupak Amendment during the health care debate of 2009/2010.
That new"Republican Women" ad is STRANGE. Are we supposed to immediately go out and support Romney because the Republican Party is showing us that they do have "women"? What did they tell us about how they would SUPPORT women????
However, that ad is great fodder for cynics like me [my comments in brackets]:
Virginia Foxx (NC-5): " I'm fighting to get the government off your back and out of your checkbook" [and into your britches].
Sue Myrick (NC-9): "I am a grandmother fighting for the future of MY grandchildren" [NOT yours].
Krist Noem (SD): "I'm a wife, mother of three, farmer, rancher, and a small business owner" [and in my spare time I "bring home the bacon, cook it up in a pan, and never let you forget you're a man......]
Jaime Herrera Beutler (WA-3): I have the privilege of being the youngest woman in Congress and also the first Hispanic to represent Washington State in the House of Representatives" [See those old white guys do like young female Latinos - GO JLO]..
Jean Schmidt (OH-2): "I'm proud to be the first woman elected to represent Southern Ohio in Congress" [and I will start doing my job just as soon as Obama is defeated!]
Shelley Moore Capito (WV-2): "I'm fighting to restore common sense and civility to the halls of Congress" [so would all you icky Democrats please leave?]
This ad is just TOO much FUN!!
Phoonies plan and simple..its what the republican party does, lie,lie then lies about the lies..
Speaking of fun..Let's ask Elizabeth Warren her position on the issue most important to Cherokee women living in Massachusetts.
Or let's ask Tanya Dixon-Neely her thoughts on women teachers that bully students in the public school classroom or, as Ricky Paradox says, lies, lies, lies about the First Amendment to the freedom of speech and Miranda laws.
Or how about that Hilary Rosen slapdown of stay at home women.
You're right, this is fun!
Oh, WOW, I struck a NERVE!!!
The Republicans ran an ABSURD ad (see, we's got womens) showing their 24 token women and thinking just like they did in 2008 that just because they have some people with X-Y chromosomes, that means all women will abandon Obama and vote Republican! WHEN are you people going to learn?
Now if you'd have made fun of a Democratic ad, I might have chuckled, but what did you do? What all Republicans seem to do these days - bring in TOTALLY UNRELATED information and try to use that to try to "justify" themselves!!
Is Rosen REALLY a voted representative in your mind?
Is Tany Dixon-Neely REALLY a voted representative in your mind?
As for your Elizabeth Warren comment? More "birther" controversy??? Yep, since Massachusetts is SOOOO Cherokee, this is truly a game changer!!!
You know, the fact that this bunch of yahoos who call themselves Republicans CAN'T figure this out is why I am no longer a Republican.
And you are right, debunking this bunch of yahoos who call themselves Republicans IS FUN!!!
OOPS! I meant X-X chromosomes. (yep, I DO know the difference)
Sounds like too much XX for you.
That's Dos Equis.
But no, Rosen represents a left side female idea person for the Dems selling out others that differ in their idea of being a mother.
And no, Dixon-Neely is a taxpayer paid left side woman that disrespects my profession (I'm a certified Social Studies teacher).
And WOW, Warren is the prototype Massachusetts Democrat(ic) candidate for Senate...full of fabrications.
And speaking of the late Teddy's "position" regarding women.
Ya, Dems sure speak for women.
What's sad is there are 24 Republican Women. What's even more disturbing is they're all in Congress. I'm sure they're all Wonderful Women despite their confusion.
Of coure, that didn't include the women who are Republican Senators.
Greedy Old Party women who, time and again, vote against women. Yeah ... I can see this "reach out to women" by teabagging women really working ... these dolts think all women are just as ignorant and blindingly irrational as they are. Ah, such is life in the teabagging Greedy Old Party bubble ... welcome to the Bizarro World, folks ...
And the Democrats are in the bag for the likes of Sandra Fluke and her ilk...of as noted by David Kornacki writing in the liberal publication Salon, the Obama campaign appears to a large swath of formerly Democrat Party voters to have been taken over by the interests of "affluent Liberals, feminists...and minorities, secularists, and gays." His words, not mine feinstein. How many of those interest groups do you belong to?
In the commonly accepted verb usage, isn't "teabagging women" an oxymoron? (I can see it now, "Maynard, you're the moron.")
And calling those opposing you as "dolts" and "ignorant" only provides more gird for their loins...and their position.
Wait a minute, Maynard...you surely aren't suggesting we want our women to be "girding their loins" now do we" However will we Republicans ever reproduce? LOL!
