After a weekend of NATO meetings, President Obama flew to Joplin, Missouri, Monday night to speak at Joplin High's graduation, one year after a tornado devastated the community and killed 161 people. Because of the students, the administrators, the city, and volunteers from across the country and around the world, the school reopened on time last fall. This class of 2012 did not leave their home for other schools in other towns. They stuck together. President Obama honored that dedication tonight.

I cannot believe there are no other comments. Folks, "you are from Joplin". what more do you need to hear that your actions and voice are relevant? Needless to say, but I will anyway, this wasn't a blue state or red state speech, this was an American speech. Is the right-wing media reach that entrenched that you cannot see an "American" speech. WE are from Joplin. The last time that I felt this connected to my American heritage was when Bobby (Kennedy) qualmed the crowds on the evening of MLK assassination, I was 14 years old. And I remember. I live in MO. I know people from Joplin. I know people that lost loved ones in Joplin. I know in my heart that President Obama knows what the people of Joplin have done. And, I believe President Obama that "we are more alike than different". Please remember that when you vote in November.
This was absolutely stunning. Just beautiful in tone and sentiment and challenge. I do wonder how, in that very red town in a very red state, the people in that audience responded to this wonderful speech. Hopefully well.
Very moving speech. Very proud of the people of Joplin and their grit. Proud of our countries enduring strength. Very proud of our President.
