While talking to Bill O'Reilly Fox News guest, actor, and writer Ben Stein suggested that President Nixon was much smarter than President Obama. In the Rewrite, MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell sets the record straight.
Rewriting Ben Stein on presidents

One could almost believe there's a certain order and harmony to the universe knowing a guy like this wound up with the initials he did...
SL Caddie that sums it up perfectly...
A salt lake city cabby making fun of Ben. Now that is funny!! Ben Graduated from Columbia University in economics and went to Yale to further his education. Loony Larry doesn't want you to know that because it doesn't fit his story. Ben also worked for two American Presidents as a speech writer. Looks like he is more qualified then Larry in many ways.
The whole point of this clip was to discredit Bill. Keep trying Larry, He has more viewers than all of you MSNBC personalities put together. You can try to argue what ever reason you want but one thing that anyone with a computer and the Internet can prove for themselves is he is factually more accurate the anybody on this network. I showed you just with this clip that Larry left out facts just to turn his story.
I have listened to what Ben Stein has to say over the years. All I have taken away, however, is he has a very high opinion of himself, holds himself in high esteem, and is wrong headed on just about every issue. That is my opinion.
Lawrence,
I just love you to death (pun only). Brilliant, brave, dry humor, have my attention daily. And a good man at that. Yes Lawrence, I love you to death! You better tell MSNBC, they better keep you a very, very long time. I know all the girls, especially like me, would follow Rachel-not me-I think you got her beat. You're brilliant. No wonder you wrote for the West Wing!
We need good minds. And your show is getting better and better!
Keep it up my friend,
Gigi Jacobs
I like the phrase, "I LOVE YOU TO DEATH" from the movie with the same name. I like that movie because the "Pizza Man's Mother was just like my mother. When he was in the hospital, she cracked him in the head even though his head was bandaged because he committed adultery. My mother, father and grandfather gave me the greatest lesson: Respect everyone regardless of social standing, poor or wealhy, or how they look. Especially have the greatest respect for women and children. This principle has been my greatest asset.
A very intelligent post!
Gigi, what are you smoking, Lawrence and his show is a joke.
Lawrence O'Donnell is on "Fire"!!! The Platzner Post Facebook, and Twitter
Lawrence - in listing Ben Stein's credentials, you neglected to mention that he has also provided his voice acting services in seven episodes (plus a made-for-TV-movie) of a Nickelodeon cartoon called "The Fairly Oddparents" as Sanderson, the (evil) Pixie. Sanderson is the head Pixie of Pixies, Inc. in Pixie World.
So...Bill O'Reilly is seeking economic advice and endorsements from a cartoon PIXIE? I bet Jon Stewart will have fun with that.
(I didn't make this up! Really! Search "Fairly Oddparents" on imdb.com and/or google "Sanderson the head pixie")
(P.S. and no, I don't watch the show. But my child used to)
Love the show, Lawrence!

Turn the Supreme Court ruling around NOW!
Ben Stein is a creationist. He has no right to call anyone stupid.
Thanks, I'd forgotten that one (Stein is that insignificant, seriously).
http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=ben-steins-expelled-review-john-rennie
In the new science-bashing movie Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed, Ben Stein and the rest of the filmmakers sincerely and seriously argue that Charles Darwin's theory of evolution paved the way for the Holocaust.
Shades of Godwin's Law...
Odd - I have never thought of science as the enemy of religion - wonder where Stein and company come up with it?
Spend some time researching "light matter and dark matter and decoupling". I guess the best way to explain that to a goat herder would be that the light was divided from the darkness.
I wonder how you would explain E=MC^2 to Aaron?
How close to Pi is good enough if you do not have a decimal system ,you are working with an irrational number and you are measuring in cubits?
Everyone who actually made round objects during that period of time would have known that Pi was not exactly 3 and would have have had some rule of thumb for approximating it. Moses, having an Egyptian education and any of the former slaves involved in construction would have known that the Egyptian rule of thumb - 3 1/6 was a little closer. So while 3 is implied, everyone involved in the actual work knew what was really being specified.
And don't even get me started about randomness being somehow evil.
Adam_Selene
Mr Laurence you're simple the best.
...Ben Stein look - act - and talk like a person that's been drop on his head as a baby! How anyone can take what he has to say is as foolish as him...OH....Bill O'Reilly is as foolish as Ben Stein!!!LOL
Does any of this have anything at all to do with the state of the economy (pi** poor), the return to the deficit and debt wars ahead of us, the still non-existant but getting increasing self defeating energy policies of this adminisistration, and the flagging defense posture of a once great leadership nation? What a collosal waste of time, O'Donnel.
Your propaganda outlet, aka FAUX Noise, ran the clip of Ben Stein identifying him as an "economist." He smeared the President and claimed he wasn't nearly as smart as Richard Nixon. You remember Nixon, right? He was Commander-in-chief during the Vietnam war, the one we lost... Read the Pentagon Papers, thickwit; they were prolonging that one long after all the military objectives had been reached, propping up a corrupt Saigon regime and scaring us all with the "Domino Theory" the way the Cheneyites did with WMD's.
And more bad news for your homophobic prejudices, Grandpa...

Must suck to be on the wrong side of history... And the human race...
WTF? Where did all that diatibe come from? Who the hell do you think you are talking to assh**e! I haven't said anything in my one comment here that approaches anything other than the question of why aren't we dealing with the economic issues, and you want to refight the Vietnam War and go all "gay smooching" and believe you are refuting something I said?
Get a freaking life, you drunken sot, and stop stalking me on this blog! Got it?
It came from the real world, Fuzzie, and not the orifice you speak with that you claim is connected to your brain but is really part of your alimentary canal and in close proximity to your hind end...
But speaking of being drunk, I'm guessing you were when you made those "masturbatory" references about Lawrence and others... That was total unclass, but what else is new?
Thanks for making my week knowing I got under your skin... Somebody has to...
And hang on to that paranoia that I'm stalking you. I was here long before you were; proof is that I'm permitted to post links and you're not... You're nothing but a wannabe-intellectual bully who surrounded himself with sycophants all his life, learned to impress them, and never learned to think independently... Read what others are saying for once...
(loud sounds of parrot squawking after it reads this one)
a)..."never learned to think independently" (and).. b).."Read what others are saying for once" Cab Driver.
Obvious oxymoron if I ever so one, moron!
A new viewer, I am most impressed with your program, for example, your analysis of former President Nixon and refutation of the statement that Nixon was smarter than President Obama.
Your recent segment debunking the nonsense that "marriage has always been between one man and one woman according to the Bible and tradition," as claimed by those who believe the planet is only 5000 years old, had me in stitches.
So glad to have a counterpoint to the likes of Bill O'Reilly - "No Spin" indeed.
Keep up the great job you are doing.
Your comments are always, that is - invariably - so wrong factually and logically, that it is bizarre for you to have this platform. It must reach hundreds of people. You do them no service, and you do this consistently. Most notable is your comp[lete hatefulness and desire to hurt.
Ben, who?
Anyone else notice that good old Larry lied to try and make his point. Richard Nixon was NEVER IMPEACHED!!!! He did not resigned to avoid a trial in the Senate. He resigned to avoid the impeachment process! Hey Larry, what else are you lying about?
Anyone else notice that Larry lied to make his point? At 5:55 minutes in, he states that Richard Nixon was impeached. The fact is that Nixon was NEVER IMPEACHED! He resigned before he was impeached. How about a little fact checking there buddy. Oh and what else are you lying to us about?
