During tonight's Rewrite, we showed you clips of two different speeches: one by Sen. Ted Kennedy in 1983 and one by fmr. New York Governor Mario Cuomo in 1984.
The first video showing large excerpts of Ted Kennedy's speech at Liberty Baptist College (now known as Liberty University) is above. Part two can be watched here, part three here.
Former New York Governor Cuomo was speaking at Notre Dame when he made the remarks seen in the Rewrite. The lengthy speech (as in, over an hour) is well worth your time and can be watched on C-SPAN's website here.

IT'S THE ECONOMY, STUPID! Get with the program O'Donnel. We don't need your self indulgent musings about religion...we need the issues that matter to us!
Looks like the USA develops backwards regarding separation of religion and state. These f*cking fundies ruin everything.
Keith, separation of religion and state is really important. However, I agree with you that Mr O'Donnell has already covered this issue extensively and should move on to other topics, e.g. Obama's human rights violations.
What the hell do you care about separation of church and state in the USA?
Why do you care why I care?
Just curious to know why a foreigner would get so upset about separation of church and state in the USA?
Who remembers what Ted Kennedy and Cuomo said 28 years ago, and who really gives a S#%^t. I never did beleive anything that Kennedy said, he's nothing but a slime ball who got off with a crime many years ago, only because of his name. Like Keith said It's the Economy Stupid.
I really enjoyed seeing the clips of Ted Kennedy and Cuomo. I greatly admire both men. Kennedy managed to turn his life around, and he worked tirelessly for the people; Cuomo was simply a great governor who also worked for the people and gave great speeches to inspire. I think most of your viewers loved watching the videos as well. Thank you for showing them. It is important to remember though we have come a long way, we have such a long way to go. And much to lose if we forget.
Ted turned his life around?? Ted was a falling down drunk for decades. He and Chris Dodd were the inventors of the "waitress sandwich" (Google it). Real classy guy.
I lived in Boston for decades and know that even with the massive wealth the Kennedys amassed they were never accepted by Boston society, and it still tears them apart. Everyone knew that the Kennedy wealth came from swindling, embezzling and bootlegging.
I once date a gal that waitressed on the Cape Eugene. So I don't need to Google that bit of info you provided as I heard it first hand...all the waitresses out there were petrified if they had to be anywhere near those two lecherous drunks.
Add to that the new information from the revelations of the former naive 18 year old summer intern in the White House who was raped by Jack Kennedy in the Oval Office on her first week on the job, and that randy President (forerunner of Clinton) maintained an adulterous relationship with her for a year, flying her back to DC from Boston during her school year following to continue their adulterous relationship, including trying to get her to provide oral services to Teddy in the White House pool for his perverted viewing pleasure.
Even she had the good sense to turn down anything to do with Ted Kennedy if it had anything to do with water, bridge or no bridge!
The Kennedy boys were always afraid to bring their girlfriends around because Joe senior would hit on them.
I did a lot of boating around Boston Harbor and Cape Cod and fishing drunken Kennedys out of the drink was almost a full time job for the Coast Guard. It's amazing that the Democrats still look at them as if they were royalty.
Thanks! It was good to get to see the speeches.
