In the Rewrite, MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell explained how the message on President Obama's marriage equality support "evolved" at FOX News. Coverage varied from a questionable headline on the Fox Nation website to Shepard Smith's subtly calling out President Obama, "now in the 21st century," for his new found stance on marriage equality.
Lawrence applauded Shep and noted he's "long been the lone voice of reason" on the network.

Stop trying to distract us from the real issues ahead of us, O'Donnell. This election ahead of us has nothing to do with gay marriage (a separate states' issue only) but has everything to do with the faltering economy, high unemployment and underemployment, fiscal ruin, riciculous lack of a sane energy policy, and a flagging defense posture.
Get with the program or continue to lose viewers daily!
This is about news. And when the first president in American history comes out in favor of marriage equality this is news.
Bush and the Republicans ran on "gay marriage" in 2004. Somehow I doubt that you complained about this back then.
So freedom and discrimination aren't real issues. Gotcha...
Somebody clue Grandpa Fuzz in on what happened in North Carolina on Tuesday...
And Chris Matthews has been carefully bringing up how Karl Rove and Don King managed to swing about 7% of the Afro-American vote in Ohio in 2004, enough to tilt the election in favor of Bush. They used gay marriage as their talking oink®.
More "pay no attention to the man behind the curtain" tactics from the theatrical sorts on the right. As for me, I love how the President is giving the Rove crowd wedgies with their wedge issues.
Moving on to "sane energy policy," local reports here on the number of gas wells approved (3,675) by the Interior Department are giving some of us envirionmentalists worries.

"Bush and the Republican's ran on 'gay marriage' in 2004." Really?
I guess i missed that, didn't hear it, didn't see it in the campaign literature, or appearing in the Platform.
That would have made "The Log Cabin" Republicans in Congress giddy (or more giddy, I guess would be correct) for sure!
Well said Keith, O'Donnell is always trying to distract people from the real issues, unfortunately there are some who beleive his crap, and I mean crap. He is hurting for viewers. If Romney wins, and Scott Brown wins, I will be sure to watch his show to hear what kind of B.S. he will come up with on how they lost the election.
Obama's decision in favor of same sex marriage is the greatest and most important decision in the history of civilization. He will go down in history as the most moral leader, except for Augustus Caesar who is No. 1.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! That was really hillarious, Luigi!
Overheard at Starbucks this morning -- "next, the democrats will want to let gays have the vote."
:)
As people become more civilized, they will be more in favor same sex marriage.
Man-boy and Woman-girl marriage too, no doubt, but I wouldn't call it "more civilizeed"; more like more hedonistically secular and indiosyncratic.
I like Bonnie's take :)
Ain't no one more down home and quintessentially American than our President. Billy came close, but Barack is a dude of the highest order. This guy from stem to stern makes me proud. His intelligence, his dedication, his righteousness, and his humanity give me the faith that our country will remain in his capable hands until 2016! Let's give this man the CONGRESS he deserves and the CONGRESS we need. Register and Vote Democrat for the United States Senate and House of Representatives this November. God Bless Barack Obama, God Bless The Democratic Party and God Bless The United States of America. 4 more years !!!!!! Say it with me : STRAIGHT TICKET !!!!! Vote all democratic candidates on your ballot. Every. Single. One.
From "stem to stern" hmmm? I can see how you might be interested in Obama's stem and stern, Mah!
He has a clear vision that benefits all mankind. He combines faith and reason, while others have only blind faith.
Obama's vision is obscured on the economic isues, fiscal isssues, energy issues, and defense issues due to having his head firmly planted in his sterns interior, Luigi.
He will go down in History as the greatest leader of all time, except for Augustus Caesar.
Or the second failed POTUS one termer only since Jimmie Carter's loss to Ronald Regan perhaps. I'd lay you odds on the latter, Luigi!

This should not be an issue at all. Marriage is a religious thing, and has been for a few thousand years, in every culture on every continent. Before religion came along is seems that people were reproducing just fine without it. That was one of the main reasons behind marriage, is to reproduce as many more little christians, jews, muslims or what ever religion people may be. It was about having a bigger tribe than the other guys had. Also it has been said that no where in the bible does it say that being a homosexual is a sin. It does say that killing, being greedy and having a big ego are sins. And it seems that those sins are ok with the christians in America today, Just don't be gay is all they say. I am sure glad that I am a Pagan.
Seems to me that the Pharohs married in ancient Egypt, long before Juadism, Christianity, and Islam brought their religious traditions to Western Civilization.
But you are right it is not an issue for national politics. It's an issue of licensing best left to the separate states.
Less civilized individuals substitute God's judgment with their judgment. Then they use that judment against those with whom they diasagree.
Is that Educator or Ecuador, Luigi?
The Webster Dictionary defines marriage ( The legal union of two people in wedlock).
Republican for Obama!!!! He's real and a good man!! He's getting my vote and help for a continued 4 years, although I am sad I didn't get chosen for the dinner tonight. ;-) Ginger
lawrence, I wait up to see your show every night.
tonight I don't even want to hear your so called knpwledge on Marriage equality from the Bible.
I don't know WHO gets this material for you, but to say that the Bible does not say that marriage is between a man and a woman, is so WRONG. Bible Students and those of us who have studied and been in presence of teachings of the Bible you show me that you do do not understand. what it teaches. In the old Testament People were under the Law and in the New Testament we are un der grace from the time of the crucifixtion. I'm Evengelical and take a big isue with you on this subject.
I'm,appalled. Why don't you ask an Evangelical Minister or the Baptist Minister that was on your show last week to critique your position.
Sir, The Bible does name homosexuality specifically.
BUT, When Jesus was at the well where a gang was ready to stone a woman for infidelity, Jesus started to write on the ground. No one knew what He was writing, but one by one the gang left.
The message, Don't judge, His question, "Where are your accusors"
'Not good to separate What the Bible teaches in a public forum to those who do not believe as you do. That's DIVISION!!!!!
No one is stoning homosexuals in North America or other Western and Eastern European Nations, South America or Isreal, or the East Asian nations, that seems to be somewhat prevalent in the Islamic world of Western Asia howevever. And Africa is a battleground.
Great story on marriage of one man and one women. But you didn't go far enough. Polygamy is illegal in both Utah and Arizona, but both states ignore the Morman polygamist communities on their borders. Somebody needs to ask Romney what he would do about these illegal communities.
I think Mr. Romney is a Massachusetts citizen and former Governor, and if he becomes President, he will have to leave that up to the State of Arizona and Utah authorities I believe. I notice that you don't seem to be at all concerned about asking Obama what he would intend to do, although his father had two wifes without a divorce and Obama's mother sandwiched in between with an out of wedlock pregnancy so perhaps he is evolving on that issue also?
Bill Graham said one time "Homosexuality is Not the only sin. There are many but before you start delivering things that are not so you definately should ask for the support of both a Catholic priest and and evangelical minister. Talk about up set, glad you don't have a show tomorrow night I probably would not watch it.
The Bible states 28 times that there is "ONE GOD."
The Book of Morman has removed every one of them, the Word of God says, don't take even one word out ,and don't add a word either.
If you not aware, the Bible is "The Inspired Word of God (2nd Timothy 3:16)
Augustus Caesar was called "The son of God".
Julius Caesar----- Tyrant and Dictator. Read your Hustory Books.
Give em hell Jean...I'm with you on this subject. Lawrance just thinks he knows it all, and trys to cram it down every viewers throat..the man is a moron
Without much of an audience either. They even scrap his program over at MSNBC on Friday nights to cover "reality crime" for gods sake. Give me Greta on Fox any day over this pompous arse!
