After months of denial and threats of dragging it out all the way to the GOP convention in Tampa, today Newt Gingrich finally ended his rocky campaign.
We've been saying it for a while, Newt Gingrich needed to get out of the primary race for the sake of Mitt Romney and the entire Republican Party. His kamikaze-like insistence on staying in the race, long after his chances were dead with voters, almost seemed spiteful.
That's why when working on theme song to go in the show's open, we picked out the White Stripes classic, "Seven Nation Army" as an ode to the former speaker's, shall we say, tenacity.
Lyrics:
I'm gonna fight 'em off
A seven nation army couldn't hold me back
They're gonna rip it off Taking their time right behind my back
And I'm talking to myself at night because I can't forget
Back and forth through my mind behind a cigaretteAnd the message coming from my eyes it says leave it alone
Don't want to hear about it every single one's got a story to tell
Everyone knows about it from the Queen of England to the hounds of hell
And if I catch it coming back my way I'm gonna serve it to you
And that ain't what you want to hear, but that's what I'll doAnd the feeling coming from my bones it says find a home
I'm going to Wichita
Far from this opera forever more
I'm gonna work the straw, make the sweat drip out of every pore
And I'm pleading, and I'm pleading, and I'm pleading right before the Lord
All the words are gonna bleed from me and I will think no more
And the stains coming from my blood tell me go back home

Jack White. Perfect, although I don't know if he'd associate with ole Newt. BTW, Jack's new album is one of the best things out recently, along with The Black Keys with Dr John. Sure is nice to have some music out these days that isn't a product, but an art.
Love the Obama commercial using Newt's own words. The GOP primary circus was made for the President's campaign.
