President Obama might not need to travel as far and wide on the campaign trail to get re-elected.
NBC News released its latest battleground electoral map, and it looks a lot more scaled back than 2008. According to polling info, only seven states are complete toss-ups this go around: Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Colorado and Nevada. Obama won all these states in 2008 — not the greatest sign for Willard M. Romney.
Team Obama plans to hold its first official rallies campaigning for a second term on Saturday, May 5 in Ohio and Virginia.

Whisteling past the graveyard, NBC-MSNBC.
Occam's Razor suggests this analysis amounts to a lot of flatulent grumbling by a thoroughly discredited poster...
They had to suggest Pennsylvania was in "play", which it's not... North Carolina has a lot of of southern evangelicals who simply won't show up... Obama leads in Ohio, and if that holds, only one of the other five has to remain with Obama and it's over...
Unemployment is already starting downward, and the Obama campaign has made very few errors. By contrast, the Romney camp has gone overboard to mobilize the Democratic base--women and Latinos in particular--far more than they have the über right who were clearly "anyone but Romney" for much of the campaign.
Do you relly think you discredited me cab driver. Show me the posts you made that accomplished that other than your pitiful attempts to take you jingoistic jargon learned from your battle with the bottle and tried to apply them to me.
You can't hold a candle to me on the citing of real facts, as your assumptions show above. Obama is not the candidate he was in 2008, he has a record to run in defense of now, and its not very pretty.
The campaign is just now getting underway, and we have 6 months ahead of us. Most folks don't start paying attention until the last six week or so, after Summer vacations and Labor Day weekend, so attempting to take polls that are meaniful now is like spitting in the wind.
Of course you would know that if you weren't such a johnny come lately to sobriety and following politics instead of where they gave the best peanuts in the cheapest bars.
Nope. I didn't discredit you. Yours was strictly a do-it-yourself operation...
Cabbie
You beat me to it. He does an excellent job discrediting himself with each key stroke.
Typical response for two of the leading closed minds on this blog. Shows your limitations, i believe.
and you show your ignorance with every key stroke.
Grandpa also believes man-created global warming is a hoax...
Republican detachment from reality is the problem, a landslide election against them would be the cure. Its as if they are on another planet and don't understand the langueage here. They ruined their chance to win by introducing the transvaginal probe. I love thier blatant certainty they will completely control the government. Its not a done deal but they are doing more to excite the democratic base than anything the democrats could do. For years I would not bother, now i take down republican arguements left and right so to speak, it is simple to evicerate a republican arguement because like them it is devoid of though and self contradictory.
How is that hating unwed mothers and being against contraception thingy goin' for you
Go tea party go!
Rowe vs. Wade Supreme Court decision provided for the right of the States individually to regulate abortions in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters. In Virginia, the legislation being considered was to have a expectant mother in the later trimesters of her pregnancy view a sono graph with her physician so she would know the live and helalth status of the fetus she was carrying and discuss with that physician options other than to rush into the abortion process.
It was hardly the "raping" of mothers that the hysterics amongst us cried out. It is a standard medical procdure for those pregnant mothers and their spouses or partners to know the status of the pregnancy and the living being in the mother's womb.
And that in your naive estimation "ruined their (Rebublican's) chances to win" the 2012 election how? Romney didn't propose it, it was proposed by the Governor and legislative representatives in the State of Virginia for their state laws only, and was in accordance with the provisions of Rowe vs. Wade.
So now you are a little smarter (but no wiser, I'm afraid) on this subject, Foolish Tom from Philly.
With all the laws that have been passed by GOP state legislatures, the obstructionism practiced by the GOP in the US Congress, the recalls that ousted GOP politicians, and being SO OVER THE TOP and EXTREME on women's issues, gun laws, ALEC, voter suppression, etc. 2012 will be HUGE for liberals, if DEMS can get out the vote. I think it'll happen...I really do.
"Liberals" are a small minority of the voting population, you realize, AZ? If they were a majority nationally, they would control the House of Representatives, would they not?
Last poll I saw stated only 22% of the American people identified themselve as Republican. Wow, that's one hell of a majority, Kieth.
And how many as Tea Party or Conservative or Independent in your poll, larry. I submit that you put them together, and they are far greater then your miniscule "progressive" liberal Democrats (and there are conservative and moderate Democrats you know?) unless you want to include the members of the almost defunct Communist Party with your liberals.
It's not my poll. It ask for republican. It didn't ask for the others. You think the idiot party is going to get indepenant voters. Shows more ignorance. But hell you write your own. I really do wish you liars would put some names with all those "communists". OH, thats right you don't have any. Just more Fox Lies crap.
Search Communist Party U.S.A. and you will see that there is one, larry.
Let me guess, Grandpa has doubtless read the collected works of W. Cleon Skousen...
Somewhere I've got a link to an interview with Mitt about ol' W.C. (who was his religion professor at Brigham Young).
BTW, the "ism" in McCarthism is an acronym for "Incredibly Short Memory."
If I didn't know any better I would swear that Republicans are planning and executing their own funerals this November. Hey GOP, keep up the good work. Now if only we could get Democrats fired up and fighting with the zeal of Ted Kennedy. Who would have thought that the American dream was having all three branches of government controlled by the democrats. Let's get fired up!
"Two men say they're Jesus, one of them must be wrong"..Dire Straits
Here's Grandpa offering an illustration of "dichotomous thinking" that characterizes narcissists like himself.
Thinking individuals allow for the possibility both may be wrong...
And truly imaginative sorts visualize another option... Hey, I had two Hispanics in the cab last month, and they both told me they were Jesus...
And as you spend a good part of your drunken life seeing double you bought it, I suppose?
"Drunken" life was less than ten years, gonzo....
And you've spent all of yours as a blithering deluded idiot.
I would like to point out something about the last presidental election in Texas !
If you dont mind?
You can look up and see every major big city in texas , carried President Obama !
El Paso, San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, Ft Worth, That is significant data, to plan a stradedgy, the suburbia , voted the other way , keeping Tx in the dark yet again.
If they can reach suburbia or find away to wake up the voters in those areas.
Texas can vote democrat once again.
Take a good look at your State House and State Legislature, and you can be assured of how Texas will go in the election ahead, schizen head. Texans know what side of the Texas Toast is buttered.
shizen
You're right about Barry carrying every big city in Texas. But back then he had no record to run on, just promises. Today he has a record....now what the hell is he going to do?
Has anyone seen the ad the Republicans are running about our "COOL" president? It's a riot. Search "
anti Obama tv ad" on youtube
A brtter add is the one made by the Republican National Committe that joxtaposes snippets of Obama "slow jammen' 'de News" with the portions of Romneys somber speech made on the awful state of the economy and the challenges and promise ahead of us still
The Texas Board of Education is making sure there are plenty of dumbed-down Republicans in the future with their all-out-of-proportion influence on this country's textbooks our school children are offered.
Hey, Grandpa? Want to debate evolution? I don't have to depend on my back-ups for that one. Growing up here with a scientific bent and jousting with the Glenn Beck/Cleon Skousen crowd means I don't back down from anyone on that one. I can even do molecular biology in a pinch. Be a good comedy routine for you to make up stuff on that subject the way you do history and politics...
The Republicans' failure to disavow the junk science of organizations like the "Discovery Institute" is diagnostic of their utter lack of intellectual integrity or credibility. If people like that had been in charge of policy in the 1960's we never would've made it to the moon, seen establishment of the EPA, or enjoyed the population rebound of our national bird under the Endangered Species Act.
Okay, pardon me... I need a bath. I'm mortified to see I agreed with Donald Trump on those "slasher ads" they tried to toss at our "Celebrity President."
Uh, Obama just won the student loan interest rate extension in the House, and I see the judge isn't happy with George Zimmerman... Better have a double guy; it is five o'clock in London...
Yeah...and did you catch the announcement of the p*** poor GDP for the first quarter, which wouldn't be anywhere near its pitiful 2.2% if it hadn't been for consumers flashing their credit cards again during the unusually warm weather due to the lack of an El Nino effect this year. As we know (those of us that are economics wise, that is) it takes 3.5 to 4% to be considered a healthy normal growth rate, and to begin to make a dent in the extreme unemployent real rate of 15% (counting the people flipping hamburgs in part time fast food restaurants that would rather have full time jobs and the folks that have simply stopped looking for work or having gone under the table after running out of the 99 weeks of unemplohment benefits during this present administrations mismanagement).
Doesn't look good for your boy if this continues into the 2nd and 3rd quarter now, does it cab driver?
Shizen
Don't ask Kieth, or any repub to look something up. That would meen they would have to learn how to use Google. That's a lot to ask of the GOP Fox Lies crowd.
First of all I'm registered Independent, Google that up if you don't believe me, larry.
Secondly, I get my news from CNBC, Bloomberg, the Wall Street Journal, U.S. News and World Report and The Economist besides my local Hartford Courant, the oldest continuously published newspaper in our United States of America.
You go on sucking at the pablum spooned up by MSNBC to get you distorted view of the news, larry. It's really infantile, but hey, maybe you will grow up all right afterall.
ALL right wing media. And the only reason I'm registered Deocratic is we have "closed" primaries. But I used to be Republican. Then I got smart. The military tought me.
Cab driver: I don't think Obama is too happy about the passage of the Republican bill in the House that pays for the continued reduced 3.4% interest rate on government Stafford loans by taking the monies back from the Obama Non-affordable Care Act.18 Democrats voted in favor of the measure.
Obama and the Dems wanted to pay for it by denying the Oil and Gas Companies the standard tax credits and equipment depreciation allwonances in their exploration and production of the energy all of the citizens of our country needs. They like to call those tax credits and depreciation allowances that all other industires receive to be tax subsidies to the Gig Oil companies, but there are no tax dollars going to them. It was simply a raid on the profits of a singled out Oil and Gas sector of companies to pay for social giveaway subsidies and "green" energy subsidies with real tax and borrowed dollars in this election year.
You noted the 2.2% slow growth figures for the 1st Quarter, i hope. Of course, half of that growth came in spending by credit for new vehicles to replace the gas users of older vehicles, a move that came by the consumer necessitated by the spiral higher gas prices caused by the Obama Administration failed policies and practices in the energy sector, such as the 13% decline in oil and gas exploration and production on federal lands in the last year. Or the footdragging by the Obama EPA on the two new refineries approved for building in the Bush Administration (first in over 35 years), one in Yuma AZ and one in North Dakota. Oh, and those consumers were acting without the subsidies of rebates paid for by tax payers and borrowed Chinese dollars back in the early years of the Obama Administration.
larry:
I'll have you know that CNBC is NBCs financial news channel, and their financial analysists appear regularly on MSNBC's hard news shows, although the former Democrat Party operatives that serve up their garbage slaw og talking points in the prime time evening hours don't have any use for them as their hard facts on the state of the economy does not support the dostorted mirage of a "healthy" economic picture the leftist media wishes to present.
As far as the other media, The Wall Strret Journal is our countries premier financial newspaper and website. It has never been considered right wing media by anybody with half a brain (especially the right half). And so on with the rest.
Hey, anybody know who owns the WSJ? It isn't that senile old man Murdoch is it?
The guy who just got reamed in Great Britain for the cover-up of the Newscorp phone hackings?
Grandpa Fuzz is a little old to learn computer programming stuff, but there's this phrase "garbage in, garbage out" that seems appropriate...
Nobody is saying the "economy is healthy"; they're saying the incompetent stewardship of the Cheney Administration allowed it to develop three or four life-threatening conditions, and now that the Obama Presidency has wheeled it out of the ICU, the right wing crowd wants to order up more leeches and reinstate its bloodletting treatments.
And now I see Boehner calls the prevention measures of the Affordable Health Care Act a "slush fund." Man, he's doing more to bring the ladies over to the Democratic side than any of us progressives could ever dream of...
And Larry, I used to be a Republican, too. I was one the whole time Grandpa Fuzzie is trying to yank my chain over, back when I drew a sober breath about as often as he has an original thought...
The "slush" fund was set up in 2010 to be able to push free diagnostics for women, insured or uninsured, as a separate class inorder to court their vote. As the SCOTUS exposed regulations of the Health and Human Services that are part of the unconstitutional grap for power over the nations healh care systems and insurance industry, this fund isn't going to be required come the June ruling by the Supreme Court that will dismantle the Obama Unaffordable Care Act.
In other words, it was just another Democrat Party gambit to "buy votes".
In our country, no one goes without proper diagnostics. Of course, you do remember the early on concern by women of the planned "Health Care Panels" and their floating out cost cutting measures to say that Insurance Companies would be barred from providing routine diagnostica for Breast Cancer for women under age 50, cab driver? What was up with that?
To hear past Press Secretary ramble on about the positive job growth and economic growth of the Obama Administration today on NBC, citing the numbers of 4.1 million jobs gained in the last 25 months in the face of the 120,000 miserable numbers last month and the piddling 2.2% GDP last Quarter which falls far short of the 160,000 jobs needed monthly to just stay even with population growth, and 3.5 to 4% GDP to begin to make a dent in the high unemployment rate and lowered tax coffers.
Seems to me just a month ago they were claiming 2 milion jobs gained in Obama's 3&1/2 years in office, and two weeks ago claiming 3 million jobs. Now it's suddenly 4.1 million?
The true facts are 5,000,000 jobs lost, and 90% of those jobs lost by women.
But we wouldn't expect the discedited and forced to step down Gibbs to admit the truth, would we!
Grandpa, last night, right in the middle of the bar rush, I cussed out the dispatcher who chased me a long ways for a pick-up at a Wal-Mart... Okay, part of it's my "fault'; I'm not much of one for payola (they call it "tips," but it's payola, trust me). And some of it was a guilty conscience. I shop at Wally more than I care to admit, but it helps with the budget even though it's not my first choice. I worked for a grocery store back in my first stint at college; they'd paid us a living wage but rode us hard and put us back wet. Wal-Mart makes them look good.
Anyway, I picked up a little old gentleman I recognized and hadn't seen for a few years. He was bent over, an African-American who returned my smile as I took charge of his shopping cart, opened the door, and put everything carefully in the trunk. He moved slowly as he settled into the back seat.
We caught up a bit; he had to ask me my name again... The old boy was a Katrina refugee, still living here nearly seven years after that horror where George "Nero" Bush told us what a heckuva job Brownie was doing...
Here's an oldie you probably missed while you were hiding out in those locked V.A. wards surrounding yourself with deeply disturbed sorts who helped you maintain your façade of humanity...
//www.youtube.com/watch?v=aciWaZkvXGI
Now I don't find any story anywhere of Robert Gibbs being discredited, other than your bad fiction. Of course if you want to read a story by a WH press secretary, you could read Scott McClelland's "What Happened."
Moving on, for those who wonder where Fuzzie gets his playbook, here's my best guess... As I've pointed out before, originality isn't his strong suit.
//www.readersupportednews.org/off-site-news-section/68-68/5468-top-fox-news-executive-admits-lying-on-air-about-obama
In newly uncovered audio, a Fox News executive boasts that he lied repeatedly during the closing days of the 2008 presidential campaign when he speculated on-air "about whether Barack Obama really advocated socialism."
Speaking in 2009 onboard a pricey Mediterranean cruise sponsored by a right-wing college, Fox Washington managing editor Bill Sammon described his attempts the previous year to link Obama to "socialism" as "mischievous speculation." Sammon, who is also a Fox News vice president, acknowledged that "privately" he had believed that the socialism allegation was "rather far-fetched."
Indeed, in the weeks leading up to the 2008 election, Sammon used his Fox position to engage in a campaign to tie Obama to "Marxists" and "socialism." A Media Matters review found that Sammon - then the network's Washington deputy managing editor - repeatedly linked Obama's "spread the wealth around" remark to socialism during his October 2008 Fox appearances.
The @!$%# then proceeded to double down on his fables, and in truth, the only thing new about this re-invented McCarthyism is the hysteria has been carefully re-upholstered in velvet. Really smooth velvet that is being peddled to cruise-loving sorts... If anyone knows some people who attended this one, I hope you'll send them the music link along with your fond hopes they enjoy the next one...
Finally, I note MSNBC once suspended both Keith Olbermann and Joe Scarborough for making modest political contributions that were apparently verböten under their contracts...
By contrast, Fox News contributed one million dollars to the Republican Governors' Association...
The Press Corps ran Gibbs out, after catching him in a few too many outlandish lies, and he was consigned to a period ob oblivion to bring him back fresh for the Obama Re-election campagn, which he seems to be off an running mischaracterizing the issues.
Try this on for size: the middle class has lost $4,500 per household in income average per year since Obama took office. And for those who still have their homes, they've sunk to the lowest values of the past 12 years adjusted for inflation. Making matters worse, Obama and his economic advisors are now looking for ways to tax existing 401K and IRA accounts, long before any moneys are to be withdrawn from them.
Oh, he talks about the unfairness of the top income earners and top tax payers having done better than the middleclass, but it's his administrations failed policies and practices that are the cause of that, and apparently if he gets reelected, it will be even more of the same.
