Last night President Obama appeared on a special edition of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, live from the University of North Carolina. The two had a long conversation about student loans and the economic constraints on young voters.
But before all that, they had a little fun. Instead of NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams, Fallon slow jammed the news with President Obama.
So naturally, today, there was a right wing freak out. Lawrence will talk about that in tonight's Rewrite.

So Clinton played the sax, and Obama can sing Al Green and lend himself to comedy stunts. Of course, Chris Mathews was all over this today, gushing what a fantastic campaigner Obama is, and who thinks Romney has anything to offer against that. Especially the way Obama masterfully handled that spilt yogurt thing.
5,000,000 jobs lost under his presidency, 90+ percent of them lost by women, and 6 trillion now added debt and rising, his Healthcare Bill going down in flames, and the nations credit rating down from AAA to AAa1 and falling again after labor day when the day of reakoning comes early as the government will be forced to again raise the debt ceiling earlier than expected (they thought not until after the election) because the profligate spending continued without a budget being considered and past.
Give me a break. One is talking about healing the broken economy and sinking financial ship of state, and the other is spoofing on the late night entertainment shows. If we wanted this kind of thing in a president, I think we could all agree John Stewart would male the best candidate. Geeze Louise, MSNBC...get a grip! And start concentrating on the real issues the electorate wants to discuss!
Keith fox news is a cancer of lies and propagada that needs to be confined to that station, its only a few away switch to it. We watch real news with facts instead of taint for a reason we abhore lies and distortions. Posting on this sight reminds us of why we have fox news on parental block its obsene. No one here is going to change thier mind, try cnn maybe someone will listen to your waste there. You are not going to 'enlighten' anyone here, we are already enlightened more intellectual more thought out and more caring for society than you could ever be. Remember faux news calls us intellectual snobs. I love feeling like an intellectual snob so thank you for your nonsense and utterances of rediculousness.
If you had social graces you would know you are not welcome amongst the snobs, buh bye. fox should only be a few clicks away they miss you already.
Wait a minute Mr. Keith Longey:
During the Bush presidency we lost 43,000 INDUSTRIES, all subsidized by our tax dollars. With those we lost 15 MILLION jobs. Then he said he created jobs by giving tax breaks? Jobs in China do not benefit the US worker and does not increase our tax revenue. And you said during Obamas' we lost 5 million? The way anyone can see it is the trickle down effect of making those subsidies a law and of which the do nothing GOP controlled and saboteur congress does not want to get rid. We could be having a very good 4 years if Obamas' policies would have passed the congress. Right now we are still under the last adm. policies.
The tax payers helped those companies invest with those subsidies, they closed , moved away and yet none of those companies pay a penny in taxes in the US but their stock holders take the profits. How has that helped the economy? Even with that, Obama has been so resourceful, he has managed to put the economy in the positive side of the graph. If you see how into the negative we were when Bush came out and see where we are now and if you are really truthful you would be telling a different story. Of course there is still work to be done but we cannot expect the congress to do it even though our government is composed of three branches that are supposed to work together for the benefit of the people.
We need jobs in this country but not the kind of jobs "created?" by Bush. Those were military jobs whose salaries and wages came out of our coffers making the debt bigger. We need the congress to get off their high horse and do what they promised on 2010. They ran on JOBS, JOBS. Well where are the jobs they promised. The president proposed but the congress did not bother.
The congress is just doing their agenda of MAKING Obama fail. Not allowing to fail, if that was a reality, but MAKING THIS COUNTRY FAIL JUST TO SEE THE PRESIDENT FAIL. That is treason, and unpatriotic.
BTW:
THE ONLY ONES WHO HAVE BENEFITED FROM THOSE SUBSIDIES ARE THE STOCK HOLDERS AND CEOs OF THOSE COMPANIES AND FOR MORE THAN 10 YEARS, SO IF THERE IS GOING TO BE SACRIFICE LET IT COME FROM THEM AND FROM THOSE WHO HAVE ENJOYED CONTROLLING 93% OF THE WEALTH OF THE COUNTRY, NAMELY THE TOP 15%. CANTOR IS A BRIBED PUPPET AS ARE THE REPUBLICAN LEADERS WHOSE GREEDINESS BLIND THEIR OWN FALSE PATRIOTISM. THEIR KEEPING THEIR BASE IN THE DARK IS PART OF THEIR OBJECTIVE. THEY CREATE FEAR OF FALSE EMERGENCIES IN ORDER TO PRIVATIZE PROGRAMS THAT HAVE BEEN THERE FOR DECADES AND WERE DOING WELL UNTIL BUSH GOT HIS GREEDY HANDS ON THEM.
The American people are not as stupid to prefer to pay high salaries to CEOs instead of to a civil servant to administer those programs.
Tom: this isn't your playground. If you can't refute my points in my postings, i invite you to shut your stupid mouth!
afrommi:
The raid on our industries took place under the Clinton Administration. He was the president that pushed for "Most favored nation for China for trade purposes...he was the one that sabotaged our industries with NAFTA.
Bush was met with the collapse of the Dot.com bubble of 1999 when he took office, and then got hit with 9/11, which sent the economy reeling. His tax cuts got us up and running again just as the Regan tax cuts did after the Carter failed presidency. The middle class got a breather, and the capitalists got to put their capital back to work. Under Bush, the GNP was at a consistantly higher growth rate than is under the Obama administration. And if the Dems would simply pass the Republican proposed moratorium on taxing the international earnings of the multi-national companies that do well in the global economy we life in and let them bring their $3 trillion of profits home to invest here, we would all be better for ii. But Obama wants that money to redistribte in social legislation and subsidizing bankrupting "green"energy startups instead, playing off industry against industry, picking the winners and losers his view says who should get the government grease.
I suggest you stop listening to MSNBC commentators, and enlist in a macro economic course in your local community college, then you might have something to offer of your own instread of Democratic talking points.
Uh, you better lay off the hooch there, Fuzzie...
You're hearing voices. Tom is making written replies, and he's owning you almost as well as Ed Shultz owned FAUX Noise earlier this evening...
Hmmm, a parental block on Murdoch's manure? Not a bad idea for those who can't avoid looking at train wrecks...
BTW, the silly blonde who railed on the President and yet gushed over 43 a few years ago was Gretchen Carlson...
Keith
Hate to break this to you but, NAFTA: North American Free Trade Agreement. I was not aware China was part of North America.
Yep, and Clinton was president when NAFTA was ratified, but Bush 41 signed the original treaty... And the original negotians went back to the Reagan Administration in 1986...
Per Wiki, Senate supporters were 34 Republicans and 27 Democrats...
Man, Fuzzie is harder to embarrass than Glenn Beck...
lary:
Take some economics courses. I haven't got the time to teach you the basics. NAFTA had a far greater inpact on American industies going outside of the country then the Japanese in the 1980s or the Chinese in the 1990s.
If China did anything malicious to our economy, it was using its dollar surpluses from favorable trade to purchase lock, stock, and barrel failing companies in the states that couldn't compete with the Chinese manufacturers due to their currency manipulation. They raided these manufacturing companies primarily for their patents.
Cabdriver: I was sober during the Clinton Administration and able to pay attentionl His Administration using Albright (what a minsnomer that, hmmm?) negoitiated the terms of the most favored nation agreement and they gave away the store.
Clinton was the chief cheerleader for both his China policies (remember the shady Chinese financier of Democrat Party causes wined and dined by the Clintons?) and he was the chief cheerleader for passage of NAFTA.
I was sober during that era, too, Grandpa. And I was even working private business much of the time, a reality you know zilch about. I even remember the name of the "shady Chinese financier." And you didn't answer any of the claims here about what NAFTA had to do with the Chinese; you just engaged in more dissembling and because-I-said-so fabrications. George H.W. Bush signed the NAFTA treaty, and 34 Republicans and 27 Democrats voted for it ten months after he left office. I'm not going to bother my "consultants" on it because any reasonable information has no chance of getting throug that tinfoil hat you wear constantly.
Our Native American friends have a perfectly descriptive term for you. Loosely translated, it means "@!$%#talker."
Now I trust everyone saw this morning's Doonesbury.
//news.yahoo.com/comics/doonesbury-slideshow/
I feel fairly secure in knowing you are the only one who uses comic books and cartoons as your "resources" for your nonsensival political opinions.
If you can't read my postings, then don't comment on them. Save us the absurdity of that, at least.
They give Pulitzers for political cartoonists, Grandpa. One of my other friends won one...
Cab driver:
You must have been thinking of the Canada-US Trade agreement signed by George H. W. Bush in 1998 before the election, I believe, not the NAFTA agreement between then only Canada, Mexico, and the US. The latter was signed by Clinton, and didn't go into effect until Jan, of 1994, 3 years into Clinton's first term. Make a note of it before you run off at the mouth again claiming I have my facts wrong, loser!
I'm making a note of this: "Grandpa Fuzz got another ticket for speeding with the truth, and somebody should take away his Internet car keys.'
You believe wrong, gonzo...
//www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0104566.html
In three separate ceremonies in the three capitals on Dec. 17, 1992, President Bush, Mexican President Salinas, and Canadian Prime Minister Mulroney signed the historic North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). The framework agreement proposed to eliminate restrictions on the flow of goods, services, and investment in North America. The House of Representatives approved NAFTA, by a vote of 234 to 200 on November 17, 1993, and the Senate voted 60 to 38 for approval on November 20. It was signed into law by President Clinton on December 8, 1993, and took effect on January 1, 1994.
Alzheimer's anyone? That's more polite suggesting he's hitting sauce early again...
I still don't think he gets what NAFTA is. He's got it confused with WTA. Totally differant. I don't think he know the differance between North America and China or Japan from the sounds of it.
Ed scooped you lawrence the clip was amazing the same foul mouthed woman berating the president for the same thing she praised bush for, video does not lie; faux news romney and all republicans do its called propaganda.
It is fascinating after 3 years of calling the president unamerican not an american, the worst president, a muslim and an atheist simultaneously, the list goes on. Faux finally gains respect for the office? that silly woman said it brought down the office, but for bush it showed him to be just a regular guy.. wutevah.
It so obvious that it is a party and a political faux news organization with an incredible taint full of fake outrage because they have no real ideas. Cutting taxes doesnt fix the economy and its their only economic plan, oh that and debt financing them military.....
You are right Tom. Isn't that something? They are so stupid they do not realize there are recordings of everything now. During the debates they are going to have all those recordings of their candidate and I hope they ask him what is in in favor now. I love the question Ed had today too.
I know something. The GOP is against students loans, against education, against help for the poor, and for taxing the middle class, and the working poor more and continuing the tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations. So to me that sound they just want to keep the top 15% controlling even more than 93% which they are already controlling and the bottom 85% sharing less than the 7%. At least now the poor is having something. They probably want to lower the minimum wage and have children working. So what else is new. They have shown they do not care about the people in the US.
They want the children of the bottom 85% taking care of the children of the top 15%. Education is power, without education our children will find themselves being paid less that the educated ones. It is a form of distributing wealth. Low wages and high prices for good and services. Credit is already expensive for the middle class and working poor due to low salaries.
The GOP has to act fast if they want to keep their base really ignorant. They will want to get everything they are going to do passed their base wake up call. Their base really do not listen because they are too obfuscated with taking Obama out of the WH.
Take a look at the just released RNC political add that spoofs the Obama-Falon spoof, and you will see what the true political message of a candidate looks like, Philly Fool! Fox isn't running to replace Obama, Romney is, and he's gaining some serious ground on an incumbant that is beginning to stagger.

To summarize your last post:
You want it all, you want it now and you want someone else to pay for it.
Does that cover it?
Nice, eugenie. That was really clever, fit right in!
More of Jerrys' stupid selfcentered lies. According to him, the so called eugenie, all Democrats want someone else to pay. He's full of sh*t. They only thing he cares about is money. He gets his self worth from money. I believe there is much more in life than money. I pay my way. An in-law of mine, a TPer, bitched about the UI benifit extentions. When they cut her department, she got 6, month salery, medical benifits for life, she started collecting her SS,and Medicare, and UI benifits along with every extention she bitched about. And had to lie to get them because she had NO intention of going back to work. She was 67. Claims to be christian. The family have used many racial remarks pertaining to Obama. Now righties, who is asking someone else to pay what?
I love the way MSNBC "the last word" team and Lawrence research everything and inform the public. There is no reason for anyone to make an un-informed decision in November. There is so much out here and they make it so easy for us to do our own research. They are priceless.
That is the ultimate naive statement if I ever heard one.
I guess you've never heard one.
The GOP better start wising up or waking up from their ignorant slumber. If they vote for the GOP they will be going against their own interest. Unless one belongs to the top 15%, one should not vote for the GOP. The bottom 85% will remain sharing less than 7% if the GOP wins.
Sharing less of the incredibly rapidly shrinking pie, that is?
Sock it to me? Courtesy of the intertubes:
It's hard for me to listen to Lawrence show sometimes. He constantly repeats a topic that is coming up and 30 minutes later he finally speaks on it.
it's known as the tease...and he is one of the bigest sleeze tease specialists on MSNBCs staff of past Democrat Party political operatives.
Lawrence, the problem with your expose' tonight on other Presidents going on comedy shows is that in every case you showed the person was not the President at the time they went on the shows - in the case of Reagan it was even 7 years before he was elected. You need to improve your research, buddy.
They knew that of course, they are just secure in the knowledge that their unthinking automoton rabid viewers won't know, and so they fudge their leftist propoganda in such manner nightly. They are secure in the knowledge that their usual audience will take as gospel any distorted thing that springs from their mouths. They are nothing more than spin doctors for the Democrat Party afterall.
Boy, if you two were at a bar instead of hoisting them at home, the bartender would've cut you off by now...
Now back away from the bar, boys, and put down your Etch-a-Sketches...
//mediamatters.org/blog/201204250028
On the April 23 edition of the show, Fox News host Dana Perino -- a press secretary for President George W. Bush -- said that Bush had "a very different outlook on these comedy shows. He liked them, he respected them, but he never went on during his presidency":
Even Perino's former boss didn't shy away from less-than-serious TV appearances. Bush appeared via satellite on the April 28, 2008, episode of the NBC game show "Deal or No Deal."
Which has what to do with this discussion? The appropriateness of Obama's playing hipsta' POTUS slow jammen' 'de news to promote his policies?
Let's see, you called me a sissie, but you're not a homophobe. Now you're going to be claiming you aren't a racist, either...
Deep denial, folks, deep denial...
Cabbie, can't be denial, that's a valuable river. It contributes. lol
of course! 1973 and 1978 were the clips at the roast where reagan was and oct of 2000 was the clip of bush, all before either of them were elected prez. and i love the comment above about bush appearing on deal or no deal VIA SATELLITE. are you kidding? this is what LO and the commentator are grasping at?
hey, i could care less what show obama goes on, just try and tell the truth lawrence. you knew what you were doing with those clips. hoping that people wouldnt read the dates. how pathetic and insulting is that?
It's know as a Modus Operandi Pat, and it is criminal in intent because they intend to STEAL another election with those tactics.
If it weren't for quibbling you guys wouldn't have anything to say. My guess is the Shrub was too nervous to ask Dick Cheney's permission to visit the show in person; what a real time appearance via satellite doesn't count?
And that was a nice Archie Bunker impression there, Grandpa...
Falon can put on the black face makeup, but I can't? That's hardly fair. Why should he have all the fun?
Because he's funny, and you're not...
Bravo to President Obama. I enjoyed the Fallon show, my first time watching it and it was all because President Obama was going to be up there. And one point, if you don't like O'Donnell don't watch. I can't stand FOX and have never watch the B.S.
'
Hey, "hold your friends close, hold your enemies closer"! Besides, some of us believe you folks aren't all goners, there might be a few that wake up from your MSNBC drugged stupors and start figuring things out for yourselves!
You realize, of course, Grandpa, that Chris Matthews used that line in his book Hardball.
Unlike you, he was conscientious enough to give credit to The Godfather....
Darton
If you've never watched Fox how do you know it's BS?
Don't tell me.....you prefer to have someone else make your decisions for you. Isn't that liberal law #1?
He knows because he has a three-figure I.Q.
And oh my, I just picked this one off of one of Keith Olbermann's Tweets on Twitter...
Pat Bagley is our local political cartoonist and brother of my good friend, Will Bagley, an incredibly talented award-winning historian...
//www.sltrib.com/sltrib/opinion/53980003-82/bagley-cartoon-facebook-lake.html.csp
Here's another of Olbermann's tweets... I hear the Romney campaign is running out of Etch-a-Sketches...
//2012.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/04/romneys-2007-bin-laden-gaffe-comes-back-to-haunt-him.php
You gonna try repeating that Bush got Bin Laden lie again? MIght help. Some of are in need of a laugh.
To all you msnbc zombies, please compare Fox's ratings to any of the msnbc's (obama campaign network) shows. Fox rips them a new one.
Cabbie, Afrommi, Tom from Philly, Larry74 --Thank you for all your posts & putting into words my thoughts. Cabbie, you deserve special recognition for the time consuming job of rebutting Keith's distortions & lies.
cate
You sound soooooo "Dorchester"
And Patty Duck sounds jealous...
Thank you Cate. It's cathartic for me. Helps shed the road rage. Of course if Grandpa Fuzz sees this he's gonna take issue. He told me I didn't have any friends here.
He's not a friend, cab driver....he's after your fat booty and doesn't mind buttering it up first!!
Starting a little early are we, Grandpa? Cocktail hour is still two hours away on the East Coast...
Barack Obama's smiling, singing, slow grooving is not gonna put food on the table and get our jobs back. Americans especially liberals (Disenchanted Clinton Democrats) are suffering. We a have lost our homes, our jobs, our portfolios and we're not stupid to fall for this gimmick. Nobama on 2012, Hillary on 2016.
Cindy, I'm doubtful there are too many more financially challenged than I am, and I'm going downstairs for lunch right now (might have some rice and beans as a side dish to my steak just to spite Sean Hannity).
Gas here is still $3.65 a gallon, and prices are headed down...
And the portfolios were lost under the Bush Adminstration; the crash occurred before Barack Obama's inauguration... Check out where the Dow is compared to three-and-a-half years ago...
I hope that wasn't too many paragraphs for you...
So you're telling Americans, especially Dischentanted Clinton Democrats that it's perfectly okay to pay $3.65 a gallon for gas and not $2.50. Well thanks Cabbie and Thanks you Barack Obama.
Cabbie
Notice how the righties are always telling us how great the free market is, yet when the free market, oil/gas, are working against what they want, it's Obama's fault? Can anybody say hypocrit?
Larry
Notice, the difference is that Disenchentend Clinton Democrats are free marketeers, while Obama Democrats are Marxist / Commies. That's why a lot of Clinton Democrats are sitting out the 2012 election.
I'm glad you have all that information. Care to share your sources with us.
And you can't get around the fact that it is the Republicans alway talking "free market". "Let the free market work". "Deregulate the free market"......... I've heard them saying it for over 30 years. And if you care to look up the Republincan Party platform, it's quite clear.
Cindy, gas averaged $1.94 a gallon when Obama took office. In Connecticut, which isn't very near any refineries (as there haven't been any built due to envromentalist objections and lawsuits over the past 35 years), the gas pumps display regular at $404.95 a gallon.
And the reason the cab driver eats so well is that he hides his tips from the IRS, while calling on the "rich" who pay an average of over 22% of their income in taxes now after tax credits and deductions, to pony up 39+% so his social and environment causes can be funded even at higher levels than they are today.
Uh Cindy,
I don't see Clinton's name on the ballot...
And Grandpa is cherry-picking again. In June, 2008, gas prices were averaging over $4.00 an hour. I remember, because we got a meter increase...
Boy, he's a piece of work, too. Rips on me for being a loser and then claims I'm living high on the hog. I just don't eat out, that's all.
Don't eat out? Is that due to you reputation from your stumble bum drunken days? I bet you got yourself barred from quite a few place, hunnnh cab driver?
So? That's why AA has Step 8....
I managed to quit being an @!$%# way back when. So far, it's a feat you haven't accomplished...
Cabbie
I don't think anyone referred to you as a loser. I don't consider anyone with a job a loser. Now Larry74............that's a different thing.
Enjoyed President Obama and Jimmy Fallon's slow jam of the news!!!
And jerry just contradicted herself again. OH that's right, righties don't consider self enployment a job. At least I don't set at the conputer 10hrs/day gambling.
Larry
Well first of all, herself is a himself.
Cabbie is a patriot in my book...he contributes to society, he pays his way. Back in the 70s I had a full time job, I was in the Army Reserve and I drove cab part time. That's why I'm where I am today and not where you are. That's why I can do the things I want like play poker 4-5 days a week.
Try the horses, that is my main retirement other source of income other than the Social Security and Federal Civil Service pension and 403b and IRA accounts income disbursements.
This was really great.
Obama has done so much. He's a great president and people can hate on him all they want: all I know it people I know are working again. My stocks are up and as a small business owner I am getting more business. So, he's getting my vote. Unlike some people, I vote my interest.
