Nipplegate just will not go away. Now, the Supreme Court may get involved.
More than eight years after Janet Jackson's infamous "wardrobe malfunction" at the Super Bowl halftime show, the Federal Communications Commission asked the Supreme Court to chime in by reviewing the case.
The FCC filed a petition Wednesday for the high court to uphold the government's $550,000 fine against CBS for violating federal laws on broadcast indecency. For less than a second, millions of viewers caught a glimpse of Janet Jackson's bare breast before the network could cut away.
In November, the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia overturned the fine, calling it "arbitrary and capricious," in nature.
Solicitor General Donald Verrilli Jr. argued the original punishment was justified because "indecency rules and policies never included a 'fleeting nudity' exception to indecency liability."

I'm sure the judicial review of the arguments will be 'piercing', but they will most likely wind up with another politically charged 'split' nipple controversial decision.
During his time in the Senate and while running for president, Obama received a total of $77,051 from the oil giant and is the top recipient of BP PAC and individual money over the past 20 years, according to financial disclosure records

In Germany, it is totally normal to see naked people on TV. And by "naked" I mean completely naked.
"In Germany, it is totally normal to see naked people on TV."
It used to be normal to murder 6 million people in Germany too.
Didn't we just have a discussion about this a few days ago? Do you really have such a bad memory? Do you want me to again list the atrocities committed by the USA?
At least, Germans only killed under a dictatorship, while people from the USA did and STILL do it of their own volition.
We do kill murderers all the time. In fact a murderer that killed a 15 year old kid was snuffed out yesterday in Ohio. The are 11 executions scheduled over the next 20 months in Ohio...they're busy little beavers.
Texas passed a law to limit the appeals process...I guess they decided that they needed an "express lane". It's our answer to the German Autobahn....lol
The Anders Behring Breivik trial in Norway is interesting. He killed 77 people. Knowing the Norwegians they'll let him slide...we must keep a sense of humanity.
We do kill murderers all the time.
Yes, but not only murderers. The USA also executes (probably) innocent people, e.g. Troy Davis. The USA indirectly kills a lot of innocent people by its loose gun laws, e.g. Trayvon Martin. And then there are the US troops, who killed over 100,000 innocent Iraqis.
Knowing the Norwegians they'll let him slide
Putting someone behind bars is not the same as letting someone slide. Death penalty is illegal in all of Europe, except in dictatorially governed Belarus. You see, murdering its inhabitants is typically a feature of a dictatorship.
we must keep a sense of humanity.
Right. As I wrote many times before: By killing a killer you become a killer yourself. You practise the very thing that you pretend to disapprove of. Totally hypocritical. When you sink to the level of the wrongdoer, you are not any better than him.
To get back to the actual topic: Nudity doesn't kill anyone, violence does.
Innocent Iraqis?? No such thing. They were the enemy. They supported Saddam. Now they're dead.
I agree, by killing a killer you become a killer. Where's the downside?
I'd support prison over the death penalty if the murderer paid for his incarceration and not the innocent victims of the murderer.
Seufz. Bei dir ist Hopfen und Malz verloren.
"Seufz. Bei dir ist Hopfen und Malz verloren."
You can say that again!!!
So, you figured out what it means?! Good for you.
No I didn't figure out what it means. I didn't try.
Give this non issue a rest. Certainly Washington can find something of importance to the country to discuss?
