It is good that you spoke today about the Church traditions. It is the error of all churches at least according to Bible principles. I read somewhere that this new pope is planing on "abdicating his throne" and retiring without finishing his term which is supposed to be for life.

What was stated in regards to "invented" religion is more than an accurate assessment of any and all dogmas. They are all invented by someone are they not? All of which plagerism from other dogmas that came before them. Mormonism is equally absurd as is all he other religions in the world are. I have nothing nice to say about religion and I will not give it any courtsy or gibe it kids gloves treatment, people need to stop being scared to question dogmatic nonsense which causes the majority of social problems and strife.
It was interesting listening to your high praise of the Catholic church for evolving in its rules for who can enter the priesthood, given your previous snarky comments condemning the Mormon church for its having done precisely the same thing.
It was good to hear a fellow Catholic offer a rational view of Catholicism. A much needed antidote to Hannity, Sanctorum, the Newt et al.We need more lay voices to counter the wave of reactionary, misogynist behavior from the men on the stump and the men in red. Well RBR, you said it more eloquently than I could ever hope (that Jesuit training coming through). I was going to offer TC the option of leaving the USA because he/she seems to believe that the US was founded on Canon law instead of the principles of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. I also suggest starting a petition to the Vatican. Maybe they will find some parcel of land that will accommodate all those clamoring for a form of government based solely on religious law. As for this heretic, I will take my chances with that "shining beacon on the hill."

The title "rewrite doctrine" is misleading. The teaching of the Catholic Church (magisterium) is based on scripture and tradition. In the New Testament Jesus does not "ordain" anyone - he calls disciples and after the resurrection sends forth apostles. The first apostle, according to the gospels, was Mary of Magdala, whom Jesus sent (apostellein) to bring the good news to the male disciples, cowering in the upper room. Early tradition called her the apostle to the apostles. Priesthood is intrinsically connected to presiding at the Eucharist. Earl Christian frescoes depict women presiding at Eucharist and even women bishops. The New Testament does mention the office of deacon and that it was held by both women and men. As to celibacy, Peter and other apostles were married. Priests in the western church married up until the 11th century; in the eastern church they still do.
The problem is not doctrine - it is the fear of an aging celibate male curia of losing their power.

biblical, estimated 20% of roman catholic priests in the world are married including some in america. even though celibacy continues to be a requirement.
As a life long faithful Catholic and one who has worked for the Church, I congratulate Lawrence and those few faithful priests and bishops, such as the Archbishop of Vienna for standing up for truth. We're stuck with a Medeival Monarchy which does not see its own folly. Jesus would, as he did the Temple Authorities in Jerusalem, refer to them as "blind guides who strain the knat and swollow the camel"!
Catholics do not worship the Bible,[protestants do] but the Revelations of God and Tradition...the Council of Trent saved the Catholic faith and in it, you will find that celibacy is found to be a most Blessed state...it is the only state in which a man can fully devote himself to God, by giving God ALL of his love, not one watered down and diluted by family problems and concerns...I have experienced protestantism and Catholicism, so I can personally attest to the behaviour and dedication to the individual parishoner of both the Catholic priest and the protestant minister...as a protestant i never once got any kind of spiritual direction, confession, evenings of recollections or retreats, as I have from my beloved priests: they are truly creatures of sacrifice...I do recall, however, that our protestant ministers always managed to drop in at the dinner hour for cocktails...
