Former Vice President Dick Cheney was released from a Virginia hospital today after receiving a heart transplant 10 days ago, according to a statement from his spokeswoman. His eldest daughter, Liz, tweeted the above picture of her dad and her mom, Lynne, captioned with one simple word: "Home."
The 71-year-old, who’s had a long history of cardiovascular trouble, received the heart from an anonymous donor after being on a cardiac transplant list for more than 20 months. He suffered the first of five heart attacks at the ripe age of 37.
In July 2010, Cheney had a left ventricular assist device — a small battery-powered pump — implanted to help keep his weakened heart beating while awaiting a transplant. His doctor, Jonathan S. Reiner, told the New York Times that he was living successfully with the mechanical device and there was no immediate reason to decide on a transplant, though other factors helped Cheney make the decision, like the risk of infection and stroke.
"As he leaves the hospital, the former vice president and his family want to again express their deep gratitude to the donor and the donor's family for this remarkable gift,” Cheney's spokeswoman said.

God bless vice president cheney I hope his health continues to improve and he has a long happy life
When He dies we as part of Grace will not remind america how much evil this man wrought , how 7500 families across ameriKa have an empty chair because of this beings desire to make money no matter how many people it hurts! To damage our relations with hundreads of nations, and his inability to tell an enemy of america from its freinds no more tan he could tell the difference tween a quail and a lawyer! (whom he never apologiezed to , visited in the Hospitol, or sent a get well card to and that includes the harpies that pass themselves off as the women of his household, or as another 5 families call them "the reason my son or father died in vietnam, because this guy gets a differment"
Mr. Cheney was correct only once in his whole time in the white house, he predicted they would take him out feet first, and as he was in a wheel chair , he was correct!
I'll bet Cheney appreciates his socialized medicine/government health care right about now.
Wonder if he appreciates his taxpayer funded healthcare. Doubt it.
Hoping your immune system rejects the heart you received. Looking forward to watching the endless stream of eulogizers at the your funeral, which we, the taxpayers with pay for, but that God, will be last dime we will have to spend your useless sorry carcass.
Hey America, we are better than this, time to stop the hatred and ill-will to others. I'm sure Mr. Cheney and his family are truly grateful, for him to receive the best treatment available. Hopefully, one day, my family and friends will be able to receive the same treatment and priority as Mr. Cheney.
Aloha, have a nice day everybody!!!
larry laughing when cheney has a heart attack is pathetic. now larry questioning cheney getting a transplant cause of his age is sick. i wonder if larrys father had needed a transplant at age 71 he would have said to just let him die? this is healthcare rationing that sarah palin warned about. larrys sick behavior shows sarah was right about democrats.
Civility is only for people on the right, I thought everyone knew this! Liberals biggest hypocrites in the world.
I dislike Cheney. I don't like his policies, and I disagree with him wholeheartedly on just about everything (with the possible exception of gay marriage, though I'm not sure we've had confirmation that he supports it). That said, I was very happy to hear that he is back home and doing well, and I fully wish him a solid and quick recovery. Coming from a family riddled with heart problems on both sides, I sympathize greatly with the Cheney family, and wish them all well, no matter what my opinion on their politics may be.
First of all, Cheney was too old for this transplant. Secondly, there must be some needy patients who are much younger that could have put this heart to better use. Third, Cheney won't last much longer anyway. What a waste of a healthy heart. No, I have no sympathy for him. After all, he couldn't see the harm in water boarding.
