Zimmerman never knew the police were being dispatched. He remained on the phone providing information to the dispatcher as requested, trying to spot an address of the house he had last seen Martin the backyard of, and when the dispatcher asked Zimmerman if he was following the suspected treapasser, after Zimmerman answered "Yes", the dispatcher advised Zimmerman"We don't need you to do that" to which Zimmerman answered "Okay". Then he stated hewas accosted by Martin, they exchanged words, and Martin punched him in the face knocking him on his back to the ground, and got on top of him punching his head and trying to drive his head into the cement sidewalk, Zimmerman stated he called out for help, but help didn't come. and he drew his pistol and shot Martin, his attacker, in self defense. Two adult eyewitnesses gave statements to police at the scene, while the Lead Detective who was questioning Zimmman subsequently back at the police station (where Zimmman was taken after being attented to by EMTs at the scene of the altercation for his injuries) took the position that there were elements of Zimmeran's statement that did not seem true to him, the Captain on duty determined their was insufficient evidence to support a request to the State's Attorney to pursue an arrest warrent, and the States Office was requested by the Police Chief subsequently to take over the ongoing investigation. Later, the Governor of the State of Florida requested a Special Prosector be assigned, and that is where the ongoing investigation resides today.

Nobody ever saw Martin "literally walking on the street" in the gated community. Martin attacked Zimmerman because Zimmerman asked him "What are you doing around here" when Martin approached him between two townhouse buildings on a walkway from the backyards where Zimmeran observed him walking around in the rain, looking into the houses. Martin's middle school aged girlfriend who had been on a phone call with Martin for over 5 minutes, has reportedly told newspaper reporters that she heard Martin ask the man that he was observing him "Why are you following me" to which she heard someone say "What are you doing around here". Then she also supposedly told reporters that she heard the sound of a struggle, then the phone went dead.

I submit that Martin rather than being "scared" as you suggest, felt he was under surviellance by a man some 6 inches shorter than he, and that he perhaps felt "disrespeted" by the man...the kind of thing that regular seems to be behind many altercations and even shootings in the black youth culture of our inner cities.

According to the 911 tapes, Zimmerman can then be heard getting out of his vehicle, saying he lost sight of Trayvon and then went looking for him.

He had no right to do that. There is no way on earth Trayvon should have been shot to death. There is no law against a 17 yr old kid walking home. Zimmerman was suspicious of Trayvon for one reason - because he was black. No where on those tapes does Zimmerman see Trayvon breaking any laws.

Trayvon was not doing anything illegal. Zimmerman should have stepped back and let the police handle it. Although what needed "handling" I have no idea. Since when do police have to be called when a 17 year old is simply walking home?

mika, I think Zimmerman has a problem with aggressive behavior. Those comments he made to the dispatcher were uncalled for. He was assuming something he had no right to assume, just because Trayvon was black. And Trayvon's life has ended because of Zimmerman's assumptions.

Zimmerman has a bit of a bad history with his girlfriend and police officers. And I have no idea what color of skin they have.

There were written rules on how a neighborhood watch person should behave. Among those rules were no guns and no approaching someone you suspect of committing a crime. Zimmerman did not follow the instructions.

I can't answer your question about racism. The only thing I can say is if someone doesn't trust someone of a different color, for whatever reason, then there isn't much we as a society can do, other than to have laws protecting those who dress differently and are just walking down the street, minding his/her own business.

Every single step Zimmerman took here was wrong. His 911 tapes do not say that he was witnessing Trayvon breaking any laws. He just didn't like the looks of Trayvon, and this I get from his own words on the tape.

I hope he's charged, found guilty and sent to prison. The lead investigator wanted to charge him with homicide/negligent manslaughter. I see no reason not to charge him. None.

Zimerman was elected to the position of Neighborhood Watch Officer by his multi-ethnic neighbors in the gated comunity at Twin Lakes. He had taken and passed a Sanford Polic Department training program for citizen crime watch volunteers. He was a property casualty insurance underwriter by employment and training, and also a community college student studying Criminal Justice.

Your assertions that their is an admonition against following to observe and carrying a gun are false. There are no such assertions, just as there was mo command or order from the police dispatcher for Zimmerman to no longer follow Martin. In fact, the Police Cheif had said that the lawful carry of firearms for self protection law of the State of Florida supersedes any "advisement" that Police Departments may have for their approved Neighborhood Watch orgainzation. Police had also credited Zimmerman with having been instrumental in several arrests of individuals that were accused and brought to justice for breaking and entry and theft. He had previously apprehended one thief himself in dispatching his duties. That is the straight story.

The "innocent citizen" that died by a gunshot that night was an angry, out of control, 6'3" teenager former highschool athlete who assaulted the 5'9" Watch Officer who observed him trespassing in the backyards of houses at night in the community, and when he was accosted by Martin, as to why he was following, he, Martin, took unbrage at the simple question put to him, "What are you doing around here"! Martin initiated the contact, Martin hit and knocked the Watch Officer to the ground, and was continuing to beat him when Zimmerman, who was unsuccessful in summoning HELP drew his firearm and shot the assaultive Martin to stop the beating. END OF STORY, END OF CASE!
