Following a weekend in which Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum came under fire for comments regarding President Obama's environmental "theology," his National Press Secretary, Alice Stewart, went on Andrea Mitchell Reports this afternoon to clarify his comments.
However, in the middle of the interview Stewart apparently misspoke, referring to "radical Islamic policies." She says she actually meant to say radical environmentalist policies.

She misspoke? Riiiiiiight. This was a blatant dog-whistle with a pre-planned apology used to cover it up.
These people are becoming funnier and funnier. SNL can't even make this stuff up.
Any Female that would vote Republican should get what she asks for in spades.
I think she was well aware of what she was saying.
Lawrence, I love your show. This woman needs to wake up. Republicans should really do some research before they open their mouths. She intentionally insulted the President. But then again they do it all the time. I am a female voter, and I can gaurentee that I will not be voting for her boss not now or in the very distant future. I frankly do not believe that my body is property of the US Government.
How do you confuse "environmentalist" with "Islamic"? It's not like they sound the same! I don't buy that she misspoke. I do, however, buy that she's made she got caught saying it, and that it didn't just go over everyone's heads.
Another typical case of foot-in-mouth disease.
this talk about the "keystone pipe line" what a joke the "oil" will get put on the open market for the highest bidder, not to lower our gas prices.Just there way of getting there man in to lower there tax's and increase there insane profits.they proved there incapable of protecting the enviroment ( gulf oil spill ) just increasing there bottom line..jobs ? tempoary ones till its finished then what obama 2012
I don't need an "interpreter". I know what he said, I know what he meant, and now I know he doesn't have the stones to stand behind it.
Unfortunately, his three-state win gave us Rick Santorum, "Pontificator-In-Chief".
Now we are learning quickly why the people of Pennsylvania were right in denying his bid for a third term.
Just ask those in Michigan about the oil pipeline that broke carrying Canadian crude. It's been 2 years and they're still cleaning it up!! Refine it in Canada!! Let them keep the toxic spew. China has bought that oil already.
Rick Santorum’s national press secretary, Alice Stewart, is now claiming that she “misspoke” on Andrea Mitchell Reports today when she said that President Obama has “radical Islamic policies.” She later explained that she had actually meant to say “radical environmentalist policies.”
An understandable mistake. I make it all the time. Similar to the way I frequently confuse “Blah people” with “Black people.”
But here’s my question: How intimidating must Andrea Mitchell be to repeatedly cause members of the Santorum campaign to say things they don’t mean on national TV?
Like when the campaign’s primary benefactor, Foster Friess, went bananas last week and made his conversation stopping, Bayer Aspirin remark.
(And, to think of it: I actually used to like an occasional Bananas Foster.)
Anyway, I saw Ms. Mitchell in person once, and she is one of the least intimidating people you will ever see. She can’t be much taller than 5'2" or so with a soft voice and demure personality.
So I guess the only other explanation for the gaffes of the Santorum staff is that, like so many other Republican comments, Ms. Stewart’s original remark was not intended to be a factual statement.
On Lawrence's Monday 2-20-12 program, I loved Bob Schieffer's interview with Rick Santorum and how many times he used the word "force" in describing the Obama administration forcing free pre-natal testing on insurance companies, er, on women. I was hoping that Mr. Schieffer would have then asked Rick Santorum about his view of the Republican-controlled Virginia legislature forcing unwanted and unnecessary ultrasounds on pregnant women in Virginia, an invasive, non-doctor-ordered procedure that the Republican-controlled Virginia legislature wants to force women to pay for. I would have loved to have heard Santorum's response to Virginia Republicans forcibly violating the vaginas of Virginia women because of the Republicans' "theology." Too bad Mr. Schieffer missed the opportunity.
Lawaence... You have a great show and you really know what you are talking about. I think this Rick Santorum is the most ignorant person I have ever seen running for president of our great country.. I am 77 years old and have been following politics for the last 50 years. I don't think I have ever seen a dummer bunch of people than these republicans since George Wallace. Can you imagine replacing President Obama witth the likes of Santorum??????? Heaven help us if by some horrible chance he should get in...
We have a perfectly good Christian candidate in Ron Paul - Why do we have to waste time with these religeous right wing nut jobs ..........
The word "theology" has a specific meaning. Clearly, Sen. Santorum was questioning the president's faith. Andrea should have pressed the point more. Does he or does he not know the meaning of the word 'theology"? If he didn't mean to use the word, then he should apologize.
