This year's CPAC had a lot of memorable moments, mainly because the conference gives every important conversative the opportunity to state their purpose. They put themselves on record and we are all left to glean their worldview and intentions. And much of what was covered were the speeches given by the Republican candidates for president and the fiery presentations by Ann Coulter and Sarah Palin.
David Frum called attention to Grover Norquist's speech where he said something extremely significant. Our very own Lawrence O'Donnell has explained many times how Norquist is the most powerful man in Washington who does not live in the White House.
Norquist brazenly admitted that even the person in the White House does not matter much anymore.
"We are not auditioning for fearless leader. We don't need a president to tell us in what direction to go," Norquist said on Saturday. "The leadership now for the modern conservative movement for the next 20 years will be coming out of the House and the Senate."
Grover Norquist confessed that he wants a weak-willed president, like Mitt Romney, in office so he can be forced to sign every bill sent from a Republican congress Norquist controls. To him, that person just needs "enough working digits to handle a pen."
Just imagine it: an unchecked Norquist Congress. A harrowing reminder of the stakes involved this November.

Sesame Street spent generations bringing respectability and affection to the name Grover all for naught.
Goliath's one party consensual psychosis: Those willing to cash in on the criminally profiteered corporate coup and those who will die with *Bechtel's* ~ *Monsanto's* exploited serfdom.
Bought by the wealthy and corporations, controlled by Grover Norquist,so goes the republican /tea party or tea/party republicans if you prefer. Why dont they just drop the facade that their for the "American People" and admit that their only goal is to get President Obama out of office so they can make their owners richer.I would love to see the private bank account assets set up offshore for these people.I notice they did'nt do a thing about their shady insider trading deals, until "60 Minutes" exposed them. But I'm sure there are a lot of not to bright repupublicans, blind with hatred for President Obama that will vote to put these same crooks back in office.
Enter King Grover.
"Just imagine it: an unchecked Norquist Congress. A harrowing reminder of the stakes involved this November."
harrowing doesn't cover it. it's more frightening than anything produced by hollywood's horror genre. *hair standing on the back of my neck*
Glad someone else sees this as horrid as I do. Really, it amounts to an attempted coup. Could Norquist make it any clearer? He's been saying this crap for years and everyone blows him off like a nutjob, and he's not. He's nearly accomplished this. Romney is THE perfect puppet for him too, with no backbone at all. I watched Michael Steele today tripping all over himself to assure us that Romney was "his own man" and frankly, that's a load of crap. Romney has exhibited his spinelessness over and over and over. Make no mistake: Norquist and his cronies will do anything to accomplish this in November. Rig elections, cheat< whatever it takes.
ugh. after dealing with your ridic captcha process and email validation...not even worth it.
All of Grover's (nice name, kinda says it all) candidates fit his requirements. None of them think. Maybe some can write. None have any ideas. However, Grover's ideas don't work for me. Grover is nothing. I'd like to teach what obviously his mother failed to do.
Are you scared now Mitt Romney??????????????????
This guy never ran for public office, never got elected, never served, except maybe corporate interests. Why are we listening to him? Why does the media/system/whatever give him so much power?
Lawrence, please do a whole show on him, or at least a long segment, so we know his history and just how corrupt(ing) he is.
According to the Americans for Tax Reform (atr.org) most of the GOP in Congress have signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge which requires them to oppose any efforts to increase taxes and permits no exceptions. Is this an ethics violation? Rule 6 of the Code of Ethics for Government Service states “Make no private promises of any kind binding upon the duties of office…” See Pages 20 and 436 of the House and Senate Ethics Manuals, respectively. ethics.house.gov and ethics.senate.gov. Has your lawmaker signed the Pledge? Ask.
Could he ever be prosecuted? The Dems didn't sign this pledge, but they are too intimidated by his tactics. His views and efforts are negating our congress. How can his grip be loosened?
It's not the Dems who are intimidated, it's the republicans. Norquist and his cronies are the ones who fund their campaigns; more importantly, if they do not do what Norquist wants, he funds someone ELSE's campaign to run against them. It's blatant blackmail in the guise of politics. The only solution? All republicans stand en masse and throw this guy out. That isn't going to happen.
Visualize a picture of Mitt Romney. Then visualize the name Grover Norquist at the bottom. Nuff said.
