MSNBC contributor Meghan McCain stuck around after the show last night to chat with me in the green room about her dad's endorsement of Willard M. Romney.
In spite of Lawrence's insistence that Mitt Romney is, in fact, a "robot," she re-iterated the family "endorsement is real." She assured us, she's come "full circle" in her view on Romney (even though she used to steal yard signs bearing his name during the last election).
"We really hope and pray [Romney] becomes the nominee of the Republican Party in this election cycle," she told me, referring to Rick Santorum's recent surge to the top of in Iowa.
On the show, she suggested she would be more than just embarrassed by her dad if he came out in support of the über conservative. "If he had endorsed Santorum I mean I would be, like, slitting my wrists at this table right now," said the self-described "dirty moderate Republican." As she herself admitted, "no one will ever accuse me of being subtle."
Backstage she elaborated, saying she "can't stand Santorum" for his "extreme" views on social issues and the economy.
She may not have much to worry about. A New Hampshire tracking poll out today shows only a slight bump for Santorum among likely voters in New Hampshire.

It's a practical matter for the McCain clan. Arizona is thick with Mormons, and they always always always vote. No more should be made of this "endorsement." McCain's only claim to national influence is as a loser in the presidential run. He's Al Gore writ small.

I might not agree with Ms. McCain on every issue, but I sure agree with her on her opinion of Rick (can't google his name) Santorum.
Meghan is smart, thoughtful and has a sense of humor. I'm a devoted democrat and always enjoy what Meghan has to say even if I don't agree,
Poseur. Did Meghan pay your for this? You think we didn't notice your use of the small "d" when calling yourself a Democrat?
On the positive side, Meghan does have her mother's cheeks. Looks a bit like mum in the face, too.

Ms McCain breathes fresh air into a stale/smelly/rancid Republican Party Hall of nauseating Shame running for the White House! On the other hand, Mr McCain has come an extremely long way since those days when he was considered a "Maverick" Republican. Too bad he didn't stay that way or shifted towards the Democratic center of principals we so dearly behold. Instead, he dug deep into the abyss of the fetid principality of the miasmatic outcasts where he got laser beamed into an odorous defeat by the fragrant Prince of Heavenly Darkness! QUICO!
