Jon Stewart summed up Willard M. Romney's history of being picked over for someone else on the 2012 campaign trail, Forrest Gump style. The candidate has been the perpetual number two choice, and can never seem to pull ahead — unless it's with a narrow lead of eight votes.
The Daily Show host likened the Republican Party's seeming resistance to try out every single candidate to trying "every chocolate in the box." Right now, they're at the chocolate-covered cherry stage of Rick Santorum. Eventually, he warned, the GOP will end up with the bland piece of chocolate, Romney, whether they like it or not.

A box of chocolates it is for the GOP base. And some of those are not sweet at all. Romney and his family by now must be very embarrassed. They must know the GOP is not crazy about him.
The 'family' likes Romney just fine.
I grew up in Massachusetts and was a property owner there while Mitt Romney was governor after his special election in June of 2002 until he quit to become US President half way through his term in 2006. Mitt Romney is about as calculating as a rag doll. He became governor when the acting governor, Jane Swift, was completely over her head with problems stemming for Boston's famous Big Dig. Romney's "brilliant executive ability" was supposed to make short work of that problem.
He spent his entire time in office trying unsuccessfully to prevent the Gay Marriage Bill from passing. The problems with the big dig continue to this day convincing many Massachusetts residence, myself included to move to other states to avoid the usurious taxes and tolls.
Half way through his term in 2006, he decided to QUIT THE GOVERNORSHIP to devote himself full-time to a run for PRESIDENT in 2008. He left the Commonwealth in the hands of his lieutenant governor, Kerry Healey, who was completely unprepared. The problems got worse and she was defeated by the man who remains governor, Deval Patrick.
The problems in Massachusetts are in no way improved. Romney is a complete joke in his own state. No one with any understanding of politics or history has any respect for him. If he really runs against Barack Obama the Democrats have so many funny gaffs, flip flop decisions, and errors of judgement to throw at him it should make 2012 a very amusing summer. One has to ask one's self what Mitt Romney will aspire to when he finds the Presidency too taxing an effort... and who he'll leave in place to clean up the mess he fails to clean there.
The Republican presidential nominating process is a slow moving train wreak. You can't believe that what is happening before your eyes is really happening. "Sam, you hear that one more car went over the rails yesterday. And, the railroad barons are already planning a meet to discuss damage control." And, what should spill out of these cars as they de-rail? Santorum.
I'm sure I'm not the only person who seriously resents the failure of the Rep.party & the news media to present more facts & interviews with John Huntsman. I'm an Independent senior citizen, voted in every election for decades, can't understand why the Rep.party is driving totally off the rails! The country needs a solid 2 party system to function well, in my opinion. Huntsman is the ONLY valid candidate they have, so they stiff him! Go figure.....I can't!
As a mildly left-leaning centrist, even I am embarrassed for the GOP. They have had three years to get it together and and find someone to unite behind a candidate who could legitimately win the White House. Now going into New Hampshire, they are down to their 2nd to last flavor of the month and so will end up settling for the waffler that is Romney for their candidate. Had there been a true leader put forth by the GOP that, like Reagan, who could represent all American's interests (not just Republicans), I might have voted for that person, especially after Obama seemed unwilling to resist bowing to the fringe of his party. Now it seems as the lack of diligence in finding a viable candidate and aligning behind him/her will cost the GOP (and America)another 4 years of extreme leftward ho!
Maybe over the course of the next 4 years, Obama will become the leader we all expected, and the Republicans will focus on getting their house in order (and do something constructive (instead of obstructive) in Congress. Then the US may just get through this mess and regain the respect of it's citizens and the world at large.
PLEASE OH GOVERNMENT OF OURS, LEAD! (the Tea Party may just go away if you do:)
When Jon Stewart replaced Craig Kilborn I thought is was the biggest blunder ever. He's evolved to being an insightful left leaning centrist who's actually pretty funny.
