A new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll shows the Republican frontrunners Newt Gingrich and Willard M. Romney have very different battles to fight; Gingrich needs to pump up the charm with the general electorate and Romney needs to focus on wooing Republicans.
With just three weeks to go until the Iowa caucus, Newt's sitting pretty with 40 percent of the vote — that's a 17-point lead over Romney with registered Republican voters. The former Massachusetts governor got 23 percent of the vote. All the other candidates grabbed single digits.
When you expand the survey to the entire country, Gingrich wouldn't do as well up against President Obama. In a match-up with the president, Gingrich only got 40 percent of the vote compared to Obama's 51 percent. Romney, however, would only be inches away from Obama, with the incumbent getting 47 percent to Romney's 45 percent.

Lawrence, Please! Someone note that Newt's pledge to fidelity is meaningless simply because he is too old to perform the act...
Obama hasn't even begun campaigning and he is leading the Republican challengers. Republicans have been bashing him since he was elected and still he is doing OK. Not great, but OK. When he starts campaigning and people start paying attention, the election will be a no brainer. Obama wins, easily.
Please look at who these folks polled and the majority are Democrats and Liberal, so this is meaningless, why not ask strict independents. Barry is a joke on the National and International scene and needs to off with Jimmy jack@ss Carter into sunset of worst Presidents.
By Tea Party standards, the majority of the country is liberal. The polls are accurate.
When more people turn out to the polls, the result is nearly always a Democratic victory. Why is that, do you think? It's because most people lean liberal, despite the constant attempts at brainwashing by FOX news.
It does appear that things are looking up for the Obabma campaign, but it remains to be seen if the polls can translate into actual votes, considering all the sneaky new voter restriction laws, gerrymandering, and Diebold machines.
While the current administration has been out there winning hearts and minds, the Republicans have been trying to quietly cheat their way back into power, stacking the deck in their favor using every dirty trick in the book.
Overconfidence now, on the part of the Dems would be fatal. This is especially true where the 2012 congressional elections are concerned and we really need to begin stressing that simply re-electing Obama will not solve the trouble. He needs to have the support (and in this political climate, that means Democratic control) of both houses in order to overcome the gridlock and get things done.
Looks like Obama has it in the bag no matter who is against him. I guess congratulations are in order.
Just like Dewey had it over Truman, the only brainwashing going is the the washing of the small minded people who actually think that Larry O, Eddie S, and Rachel(call me Ray) M, are preachers spewing their vesrion of the truth.
So when you are ready to come out of Mommy and daddy's basement and live a real life you may actually grow your brain large enough to see the truth...
HaHa! All you neocons are stuck up Newt Creek without a paddle. Good Luck with that!
