Rick Perry at the CNBC Republican primary debate last week.
Presidential candidate Rick Perry sent a letter to Nancy Pelosi challenging her to a debate. Yes, Rick Perry — as in "Oops" Rick Perry — voluntarily initiated a chance to debate someone.
Perry wrote, "I am in Washington Monday and would love to engage you in a public debate about my Overhaul Washington plan versus the congressional status quo."
Perhaps the best part of the letter was this line: "Should you choose not to respond or engage in such a healthy discussion, I will take it to mean you will continue your obstructionist ways in the face of much needed Washington reform."
Oh snap! He's really got the House Minority Leader cornered now!
But Nancy Pelosi used her political prowess this afternoon to RSVP to Perry's invitation and have a little fun on his behalf by recalling the Texas governor's gaffe at the CNBC Republican primary debate last week.
"He did ask if I could debate here in Washington on Monday. It is my understanding that such a letter has come in. Monday I'm going to be in Portland in the morning, I'm going to be visiting some of our labs in California in the afternoon, that's two. I can't remember what the third thing is I'm going to be doing," Pelosi joked at her weekly press conference on Capitol Hill today.
However, Pelosi's witty reply did not deter Rick Perry. The Perry campaign then took to Twitter to respond by alluding to a recent "60 Minutes" piece on Congressional insider trading: "@NancyPelosi Perhaps the third activity that you have forgotten is the ongoing insider trading?"
Given Perry's less than stellar performances in previous debates, do you think he could take on Pelosi and win — should he even try?

Rick Perry want's to debate Pelosi? He must be after.
#1 Jon Stewart's job.
#2 A job on Foxsnooze.
#3 Uh Uh Uh Whoop's
#4 A new a$$hole (she will rip him a new one).
I hate to be fatalist however, no matter what bureaucrat do it will not make any difference in the big picture our fate has already been decided. The only thing they are concerned about is their back pockets-all millionaires in the parties need to work for free, and just pay the staff, if they are really concerned about the USA.
Republican candidates are clown. They don't even have a candidate who can come close to the 99%. I think ,as of right now white house is celeberating... These Occupy movement should give them a huge lesson but, they still ignoring the 99% and dancing from topic from topic, forgeting what are they gone say or thinking 1min and 4 sec. to understand the question.
If they can lead this country, I think anybody can...American president should be sharp and need to be the top of his/her game(know what he/she is talking about).Period!
GO OBAMA...GO OBAMA...GO OBAMA...GO OBAMA...GO OBAMA...GO OBAMA...GO OBAMA...GO OBAMA...GO OBAMA...GO OBAMA...GO OBAMA...
Hey Dawit...the Occupy movement is made up with a bunch of loser's, being pushed by Acorn. I call them the "The Flea Party", freeloaders, liberals, encouraging, anachry..Flea Baggers. Your boy Nobama, has to read everything from a teleprompter..but thats to be expected from a community organizer. He has no leadership skills, none what so ever. He has past Jimmy Carter as the worst President in recent times. Nobama, Nobama, Nobama
Uhm......Adam........"Whatsoever" is one word, not three.......and it SHOULD say...He has PASSED Jimmy Carter. If you're going to WRITE moronic statements, please try not to PROVE that you're an uneducated Moron before you even finish your statement. :) May I Serve You another cup of "Tea", Adam?
Equality, you forgot to mention "thats"! All you can do is be smug with someone like Adam, we know that cup of "Tea" was too deep for him. Sad, sad, sad...American education.
adam,
W. bush already has the honor and has been voted the worst president ever.
try to keep up.
Between Bush II and Carter- it's pretty much a tossup. I'd give it to Carter, but understand you might differ.
So, let's move to current times. Would we all agree that Obama is at least in the running for a position in the worst 10? Not saying the worst- by any means. But I think most logical peope would carve out a spot in the bottom 25th percentile of so.
rusty,
if you believe that President Obama is at least in the running for a postion in the worst 10, i would say that you absolutely cannot put him there without holding the republican/bagger party responsible.
of course you disagree. the republican party made a decision to bring Barack Obama down. they are responsible for leadership positions also. President Obama cannot do everything alone. people who were elected have a responsiblilty to work together, and the republicans aren't doing anything. they hate the word compromise, and refuse to do it.
i believ history will look on Barack Obama far more favorably than the republican/bagger party. the gridlock in washington is because of them, AND THE AMERICAN PEOPLE KNOW IT!
Obama will get signifiant credit for being the first minority to be elected President. As such, he will get a lot of credit for that. It is a significant point. Jackie Robinson gets a lot of extra credit for being the first to crack the color barrier in the modern era of baseball. Jackie was also a great baseball player. Most likely, he would have made the Hall of Fame had he been white.
Obama's greatness, so to speak, will go down as the first to break the color barrier. His policies, though, would put him squarely in the lower tier of performance. Interestingly, you would probably point to Bush II pharma plan as a failure- but Obamacare will fail twice as miserably. It will need to be continuously propped up by tax dollars forever, and will not yield savings. It will not be paid for, and in a real sense, will be an extra enticement for moving production off-shore.
You know, of all the things W did, the pharma plan was probably on of the better ones, but because it was enacted by Republicans, it was not paid for, and it was full of holes. The AHCA will prove its worth in time, just like SS did and Medicare. Change is not necessarily bad. As far as Obama being in the bottom quartile of Presidents, there are 44 of them. Please let me know if Obama is better or worse than Hoover or Franklin Pierce, or Chester A Arthur...or maybe Nixon or Ford. OR Carter. Or perhaps worse than Johnson or most of the presidents of the 19th century, who sat on their hands and did nothing while the people suffered under the plutocracy that formed during that time and was broken up by Teddy Roosevelt.
The history books are out there. Care to read any before making dumb statements?
Better than either Johnson, better than Carter, equal to Bush II, worse than Bush I, worse than Clinton, Reagan, Ford, Kennedy, either Roosevelts, Ike, Truman, (yes, Hoover). Nixon- disgraced but the Left should like the fact that he put in EPA and OSHA and set the tone to get out of Viet Nam, and was a self stated Keynesian- the conservatives would put him very low. 4 that he is better than with this limited list- but there were some stinkers in the 19th Century- so I'm giving you 7 others. Again- he's not the worst ever, but his policies, especially if he is allwed to put more into play, have the intelligence factor behind them that could allow him to topple that list on the bad side.
The interesting thing about any President is, like a Federal Judge, you can't predict what a new person will be good at. I would have predicted Obama would have struggled in Foreign Policy, but would have at leaset had a clue on the Economic side. I was just backwards on that.
Three reasons Nancy should debate with Perry: 1) He's STUPID! 2) He's STUPID! 3) Uhh , I can't remember the last one, OH YEAH, He's STUPID!!!
right on! Nancy could out debate him with her hands tied behind her back. This man who talked about seceding from the United States of America did he forget what the Civil War was about. I don't know how this man even got elected in TX-he must have promised the oil companies lots of favors.
I think it's going to be easier for me if I just call them Nit Romney, Nit Gingrich and Nit Perry.
I think it's going to be easier for me
if I just call them Nit Romney,
Nit Gingrich and Nit Perry.
rick perry = dimwit
president obama= brainiac
rick perry should debate nancy pelosi only if he wants to comvince the american people that he's can't outthink a polically powerful women.
Hi elizabeth june, rick perry already convinced America, he can't hold a candle to "POWER HOUSE WOMEN", like Nancy Pelosi or Hillary Clinton! Just imagine Ms Pelosi and Ms Clinton on perry's case regarding "Foreign Policy and Homeland Security", Comedy Central will have material to last a decade or more.
Lawrence, another great program. I'd love to see a debate between Perry and Pelosi, just so Pelosi would have a chance to pin him down on running that falsified attack ad on President Obama, the one in which lying Republicans took Obama's "lazy" reference out of context, just like Republicans previously did to Shirley Sherrod and people working at ACORN.
But I especially liked your Rewrite segment, airing excerpts from the Patriotic Millionaires who very coherently and cogently gave their reasons for why they'd like to see their top marginal tax rate revert back to what it was before Bush's 2001 budget-busting deficit-exploding tax cuts were passed. I hope I can find the entire Patriotic Millionaires news conference on-line. And, in my mind, I've juxtaposed this news conference with Republicans sticking up for the wealthiest 1 percent, as if financially undermining the middle-class and poor (you know, the 99 percent of consumers in our society) will really help the wealthiest in the end. Every lost job, whether public or private, means one less consumer able to consume, to buy, to purchase whatever, wherever, putting a financial strain on the revenues of large and small businesses nationwide in the short and long run. Millions of lost jobs, or lower paying jobs, has a similar effect, people with too little (or no) income not being able to consume as they had while employed (or while being paid more at a better paying job). This is what the rising income inequality has been all about. But these Patriotic Millionaires seem to realize (versus the Republicans, "too big to fail" Wall Street firms and the Koch brothers) that cutting the financial throats of American workers, public and private, will only end up cutting their own financial throats (as the consumer base keeps shrinking), since we as a society either all thrive together or will end up looking like some Third World banana republic.
Oracle, I was just going to make the two same observations, but you said it so eloquently that my mouse may make it through another day.
Except to tell Lawrence to ignore the idiots posting. Ratings mean nothing. Look at the top movies every week! In fact these fools are watching so what does that tell you, although I do miss you earlier here in California. Great show as always. Keep up the good work - and tell your staff thanks for their work as well!
I love the Ed Show, Politics Nation and The Last Word, those I can't miss, sometimes I even come here to the web site to catch a rerun if I miss it live.
Ratings and selling out sometimes go hand in hand, I like a show of substance, where the host tells it like it is, no fear. That's why I love those shows.
Lawrence, well done sir, thank you for what you do and for being a straight talker.
Get a Life you LOOSER!!!
Why would he want to become "looser"? LOL. I'm tired of people spelling that wrong. It's LOSER! And you should know what it feels like to be one.
This is so sad, I actually feel sorry for Rick Perry. Poor guy, this has desperation written all over it. I mean this, no sarcasm here.
The way Pelosi handled it, I'm impressed, she just burned the guy with his own words.
Poor Rick Perry, maybe he should make a musical or an infomercial, guess that's his best bet now.
And a big round of applause for the Patriotic Millionaires, well done, that's class!
Rick Perry is in quicksand and sinking fast. He is trying any and everything to grab onto. He is pitiful. Asking Pelosi to debate him, when he can't even debate the GOP candidates. And now saying that President Obama called Americans lazy, which he did not do. Anyone want the truth listen to President full comments and you will see that Rick Perry and Mitt Romney lied about that. Then Perry said Barack Obama grew up priviledge , we already know about the President growing up without his dad, his Mom had to get on foodstamps at one point, his grandparents help raised him. Don't sound to priviledge to me. Priviledge are folks like Donald Trump, Mitt Romney. Once again it's Rick Perry knowing he is in quicksand and sinking fast.
If he can't even debate Herman Cain, come on now.... The problem with the GOP debates is basic, they're terrified to bring out the dirty dishes on one another because they know the Obama campaign has a TiVO ready and running. Trust me, there's a lot of dirty dishes there on each and every one of the GOP candidates to fill an 18 wheeler.
Too bad the questionable issues on the Obama side have been exposed, discussed and disproven by the President himself over the last 3 years, not much to hold on to now for those GOP clowns.
What are they going to accuse the president of next time? Obama seems to favor using drones instead of sending troops on ground battles, so maybe they birthers will call him a transformer now? Obamus Prime?
Oh, but those GOP boys do have a closet full of very interesting things, tasty!
Romney destroying material that should be public records, that's the tell tell sign of corruption... Yummy! Couple that with his own flip flopping on every possible issue and you get a 3 course meal!
What the President said is true. We can not assume that businesses from other countries will want to come to America just because we're America. When there are other countries out there saying hay look at us, give us a chance. We have to be out there fighting and selling our country just like China, Japan, India, Europe, and the many others. That's what I understood the President was saying. So Romney and Perry decides to do what they do best, LIE.
Exactly.
Rick Perry isn't the only forgetful one! His campaign advisor and his wife are too, haha hilarious:
This is the funniest thing I've heard in a long time - he doesn't have the intellectual ability to debate a 5 yr. old and he wants to take on Nancy Pelosi?? She'd wipe the floor with him.
Rick Perry reminds me of a man who has failed at wrestling the family dog but then decides he wants to wrestle a tiger. Somebody save this man from himself. He began to plummet as soon as he crossed the Texas border and opened his mouth.
Rick Perry should look in the mirror and debate himself while in his giddy state of mind. "Mirror, mirror on the wall, Nancy Pelosi, I'd like to ball!" QUICO!
A monkey can beat Rick Perry and I do believe Rick Perry would be funnier than the monkey.
I found it appalling that during his recent ad, he claims that President Obama came from a "privileged" background. . . . just one of many provable lies. Why is it that the GOPers can literally make up stuff and blatantly lie in front of a camera?
Someone needs to send Perry the President's book, published long before he ran president in 2008. "Dreams from my Father" fully opens his history to the rest of the world. . . . that can read.
Perhaps Rick can buy the audio version, because it's doubtful his reading skills surpass that of a 3rd grader.
I suppose like palin, slick rick doesn't read for information, just the Sunday comics with pictures.
Gosh- I was thinking that banking execs were mean, evil rich people? Wasn't Obama raised by his grandmother- a banking vice president?
Pelosi ? Political Prowess ?
LMAO
