Former Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty had some explaining to do on The Last Word. For many months, Lawrence O'Donnell predicted he would be the 2012 Republican presidential nominee. After a poor showing at the Iowa straw poll and fundraising concerns, T-Paw decided to bail.
He jokingly blamed Lawrence's endorsement for sinking his presidential campaign on The Last Word.
"Look, I had my shot. We had a strategy. I didn't work, and we are moving on. I appreciate the tip of the hat that you have given me, and I appreciated the endorsement, but it didn't work and we have to live for the future not the past," he said on Thursday's show. Now's he's throwing his support behind Willard M. Romney.
With the current batch of GOP candidates, many of us have been pondering what would have happened if T-Paw stayed in. As Lawrence pointed out, he's "just not crazy enough" to win these days in the political landscape of the 999 plan and "oops" as an on-the-record answer to a serious debate question.
Pawlenty says he won't consider a VP slot, though he is now The Last Word's official choice for the Republican vice-presidential nomination. Lawrence pushed/prodded/pleaded, but Pawlenty says he isn't interested in dwelling on what could have been.
"You're killing me. You should just take a dagger and put it through my political heart."

OMG!! You said MICHELLE OBAMA!!!!! You just did a "PERRY" !!!! Good job at proving your point there...and I am a Moderate
Are you sure you're a moderate? Because pouncing on one gaffe that was corrected by the actor himself is not equal to a "Perry" which amounts to... not being able to complete a sentence or thought or pre-rehearsed talking points, seems like a pretty extreme thing to do.
T-Paw does seem very sane and normal compared to the remaining field. I guess not recognizing that was Lawrence's mistake!
Wonderful Interview. Enjoyed the give & take humorous comments between Lawrence & Govenor Pawlenty!!!
Who would want to work for Romney's IHOP White House? Flip everything, and flip them quick before they burn! Feed them to the public with a smile, they'll eat them!
Endorsing is relatively painless, but being in the ticket and branded a flip flopper just because you support the one candidate on either side with zero core values or beliefs is a very different thing. Even crazy Bachmann has some core belief, as misguided as they may be, but Romney is just an errand boy for the biggest corporations, and just like them, he has zero values. I don't blame anybody wanting to avoid being associated with that.
The Republican candidates for President will all honor there oath of office if elected, not undermine it as Obama has done.
If MSNBC and the rest of the lame stream media 'vetted' Obama in the same manner as they have been vetting the Republicans, Obama would have never been President or even been able to run for a second term in the Senate.
