So, Michael Moore and Jack Abramoff walked into a bar a TV studio...They actually ran into each other backstage on Wednesday's edition of The Last Word. The conversation didn't go as one might assume.
I asked the filmmaker and former lobbyist for details on that conversation and for final thoughts on the show — their last word, if you will.
Spoiler alert: a random wire attacks Michael Moore in the middle of the interview! Watch the video for more.

The Republican debate was almost as good as Comedy Central!
I watched it till the cameras stopped rolling, and saw what looked like Ron Paul giving an autograph. Then there was a shot of M. Cain wearing a white coiled earpiece up his side. When he saw the camera his expression was guilty looking...
The candidates discussed the loss of trust of the American people. They blamed President Obama for bailing out business. Hell, I was on my main street asking my neighbors and business owners what they thought of Bushes bailout, when Republican Bush first did it, and i got the answer "what bailout??" ...
Americans are tired of being used by the one percent .
HOW TO SOLVE THE DEFICIT AND REDUCE TAXES FOR THE MIDDLE CLASS !
The 1% was responsible for creating a privately owned Federal Reserve Banking Corporation which is TAX EXEMPT, and whose previous spokesman has admittedly caused the Great Depression. The Big Banks of the Federal Reserve are primarily majority owned by elite families some of which are not even citizens of the U.S.
Their instrumentation of the IRS made other groups Federally TAX EXEMPT,
such as people born in Puerto Rico. This encouraged Puerto Ricans to come with relatives and live and work here, and return to the island once a year. With that extra money the Puerto Ricans had tremendous wealth over native born American blacks. They bought houses and rented them out to Hispanic speaking people. They lobbied to develop ESL programs and mandated instruction in Spanish.
This only encouraged Hispanic Illegal immigration, which the Federal government failed to prevent. Some of them commit crime necessitating more police. Other TAX EXEMPT religions shelter them.
The Federal Tax burden of Native born Americans grew and wrenches the gut of the nonurban American Tea Partiers.
It is time for an end to these Tax Exemptions!
Jack is attempting to come clean on his activities as his book says and I can have nothing but respect for him for doing so, and Michael Moore seems to think the same as I do. What has happened in the past is criminal and Jack has paid for his crimes and is pointing out that others are still doing what he got burned for. Both parties are guilty of this and it's plain to see by the corruption of the elections process and it goes deep into the system to include the courts with judges that were appointed by some of those who were equally criminal as Jack was because they took the money and favors he was paid to offer the officials for their actions to attain the goals of the lobbyists firms hired by different groups and corporations. As I have said in posts here and and many other blogs we need to clean up the mess in Wash DC because the ones there will not, they like it that way. I can only refer to the history of Rome and it's demise for an example of what we have had for many decades in DC and at the state government level as well. We need to stop this by not electing more millionaires and corrupted corporate candidates. We need to take their money out of the system, thus taking their influence out, we also need to take the religious test out of the elections process as well. if the religious organizations that try to effect elections would pay their taxes I wouldn't have a problem with it but they seem to get representation without taxation and the rest of us get what we revolted from King George about in our revolution, taxation without having any representation or benefit from the taxation.
All empires fail when greed, religion and ego rule the day. It has happened many times and it was global, it's still happening as we speak. They just put on their corporate/capitalist hats today, and try to label themselves as "free marketers". They love democracy and it's principles, as long as they are the majority and get to call the shots so-to-speak. Let them not be the in the majority and they cry that we are really a "representative republic" and you have to listen to everyone and filibuster important legislation and issues until they get their way. The Corporation is just a 20th century term for a monarchy the earliest form of a "top-down" flow type organization, like most modern corporations are, like the military is as well, you have your generals and then you have your privates, CEO's and the mail room clerks, same rank structure, the same as a Roman Legion was structured. The same legions that became the monarchy's of what once was the Roman Empire. When the central government of Rome failed, the military and the church stayed where they were, each legion tried to maintain control of their particular part of the old empire. Sort of the way the states rebel against the federal government every now and then. Are we doomed to repeating history just to please the king?
CMcNeill I agree, I thought I was at a Comedy Show at the Fox Theatre. I am so tired of the 1% as well. What really cooks my goose is, they don't care about America's Middle Class. But they will always say that at the beginning of their speeches or appearances. We can act like there's not an elephant in the room, but it kills the right that there is a Black Man running this Country. Herman Cain can act like the Republicans want him to win the nomination for President, they have one black, highly intelligent man running this country and it's driving them crazy. Record number of obstructionism. What is the difference between, Clinton, Bush, Regan, and Obama. There's only one difference I can think of. It frightens the right that Obama is going to give minorities and black people more than they deserve. They will hold this country hostage, before they let Obama succeed, they never counted on this tatic back-firing.
I just logged on to say, great show and guests, but I want to include kudos to the 3 posters above. Excellent commentary from all of you.
To watch Mitt Romney flipflop all over the place and now ignoring claims of sexual abuse against Cain, is just disgusting.
What happened to his high moral standards? He lies when he's confronted with his flipflop on the personhood amendment, he ignores serious allegations against a candidate just too remain popular with the crowd, I can't believe Mitt Romney has so little character.
Romney has said corporations are people, I suppose he truly believes in that. Corporations have no core beliefs, and I suppose that's just how Mitt Romney is. Amoral. No character is Romney's character.
Thank God for MSNBC, Bill Maher, Michael Moore, and most of all...the Republican candidates for President. At least there is something entertaining on TV at last. Can't wait for their nominee's first debate with Obama. Something to look forward to!! Life is Good
Happy Veterans Day to all where applicable, vets, their wives, husbands, significant others, children, and parents. Thank you to you all, without your work and support of your vets they could not have accomplished the seriously hard and important jobs they had to do...
and especially to those who lost lives, were injured and disabled and those who live today but are suffering in many other ways...to you I say I am sincerely most grateful , you all are in my prayers, and again ..
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You........Enjoy your holiday and be safe.
Wow. That last segment with Michael Moore and Jack Abramoff was incredible. Mr Abramoff seemed genuine and sincere. But.....please remember folks, he was one of the best professional political operators this country has ever seen. He was incredibly successful at what he did. (convince people to cough up large sums of money and then use that money to buy influence in the congress and the white house). To do what he did he had to be a genius at being charming, sincere, and genuine. This guy had to be the best salesman/con artist since P.T. Barnum to accomplish what he did. And, guess what? Now he's hitting a few shows to sell a book. What is the book about? The book is about how screwed up the system is. This is, of course, exactly what everyone is thinking and talking about, on the left and on the right. Mr. Abramoff's timing couldn't be any better. It's perfect. His statements are all right in line with recent polling on the American people's attitudes towards their government, regardless of party. Just wait, his book is going to be a best seller and he's going to amass a nice pile of money but, I don't think it'll end there. For some reason, I don't think we've haven't seen the last of Jack Abramoff.
Now, with this in mind, go back and watch that last clip of the show again and think about that old adage about wolves in sheep's clothing. I gotta hand it to the guy though, he is spooky-good.
Cheers
Now that Jack has made his money, he said what he did was wrong. Ha ha ha ha this is like when Madonna came out and told people they needed to have morals after she used sex to make millions. Give your money back, Jack, they you won't be a hypocrite.
Lawrence, as always, I loved your show. But, this segment with Michael Moore and Jack Abramoff -- talking about their meeting in the hall of your show -- WAS PROFOUND. It really was one of the most moving moments of TV I have ever witnessed.
There is so much cynicism in politics. But, Michael Moore is a hero and a partriot. He is also an incredible example of an honorable human being. He has hope for this country. He even has hope for those who have sold their soul to the corrupt corporations and corrupt politicians.
Hopefully, Mr. Abramoff is sincere. But, even if he isn't, he won't phase the hope and faith and courage of Michael Moore.
Michael Moore is full of crap...already there have been 3 deaths, (one was a murder), in his Occupy movement that he raves about. He is one of the 1% and does he ever take off his hat. He probably wears it when he sleeps. Moore, Bill Maher, and Larry O'Donnell are all commies, they need to go to Cuba and be with their boy, Castro.
adam,
listen, michael moore didn't cause those death's, he just supports the movement.
that's right, he is one of the 1%, who supports what the 99% are doing.
what does his hat have to do with anything?
you are showing off your ignorance.
suzette...yes Moore supports the Occupy movement and encourages people to get involved...why does he continually spread the word, had he kept his mouth shut it could have prevented the 3 deaths, plus getting the Acorn group involved. I was just joking about the hat, but apparantely you were to ignorant to notice that.
Folks, let's sober up a bit re the Michael Moore/Jack Abramoff "moment": Abramoff still has 3 yrs supervised probation to serve, unresolved charges still pending, publicly supports Grover Norquist, and purposefully avoids the true solution to this mess: publicly funded elections. Mr. Moore would do better to disabuse himself of his childish and Manichean notions, learn some background, and become a more effective progressive. And Mr. Abramoff remains the sociopath perfectionist he has always been.
