The anti-minimum wage lobbying operation that calls itself the National Restaurant Association now finds itself in a pickle. They are holding Herman Cain's secrets and tomorrow they will decide whether to release them.

Are you going to continue to help pay the salaries at the National Restaurant Association by spending money at McDonald's and Burger King and Starbucks?

Sarah Muller,
"Are you going to continue to help pay the salaries at the National Restaurant Association by spending money at McDonald's and Burger King and Starbucks?", why did you signal out only those three companies to boycott of many many listed, inquiring minds want to know?
My guess is they are the biggest chains on the list, and probably the largest monetary contributors. Have to hit them where it hurts....their wallets.
A 'Socialist' like Lawrence O'Donnell calls for a boycott against the NRA just because of 'innuendo' of sexual harassment by a 'Black' Republican nominee for President because he dares to jump off the 'Democratic Plantation' and ignores actual RAPE and other violent crimes committed by OWS just shows everyone in the world how subjective O'Donnell and MSNBC is to the rule of law and objective journalism.
I hope people send more and more money to Herman Cain as a message to the 'lame stream media' like MSNBC and their Judas supporters in the Republican Party that your 'dirty tricks' will not work!
He does'nt need peoples money, he has the kock brothers in his pocket, remember? Glad someone informed the pizza dude that China has had nukes since the 60's. Yeah, lets vote him in as president!
You need to rethink this idea. If you boycott these restaurants people could loose their jobs. Do you want more people out of work? Cain is going down anyway. He has too many problems. So why put people out of work for nothing. Please rethink this boycott and think about the employees. Times are already tough enough!
Why are you giving in to terrorism? Yes, terrorism! How dare you take an organization who is clearly anti-people and then still wish to support it just because it supplies jobs? If it were up to you, we would not have ever grown in this country because EVERY ENTITY THAT HAS BEEN FOUND TO BE ILLEGAL OR IMMORAL AND HAS BEEN SHUT DOWN HAS BEEN A SUPPLIER OF JOBS!!!! Yes, you are the one who would support that guy who took candy from a baby because he might be hypo-glycemic.
@ Sarah
My guess is they are the biggest chains on the list and the largest monetary contributors... Have to hit them where it hurts....their wallets.
We live in a small town that's only big enough to handle 2 McDonalds, 1 BK, 1 Taco Bell, 1 Pizza Hut. The nice restaurants are locally owned and operated - everything from Thai, to Mexican, to Italian/Mediterainean. The food is fresh and very tasty, which makes it all too easy to support small business in our community!
The extreme left promoting violence once again. How is destroying the country the answer. Liberalism, a mental disorder. www.blackquillandink.com
Proud liberal here. If having the courage to care about other people rather than being so weak as to only be self-interested is a mental disorder...than I will wear that badge proudly.
Specifically though, is it necessary to make a general statement about an entire segment of political philosophy? The fact that one person on the left makes the kind of statement in this story does not mean we are all in agreement.
Also, where in this story do you see any talk of promoting violence?
So only liberals care about people. That is your first problem. Liberal believe that caring means giving people things. Conservatives care but believe you do people more harm with endless handouts. If you really cared you would be active to make it possible for people to be all that they can be which is not possible when you take away their incentive to get ahead.
My statement about liberals is applicable. Just look at the comments here and at places like the Huff Post. People are getting on board to Occupy innocent orgs. People and organizations that create jobs for the people that you supposedly care so much about.
As for the violence, with a President saying we need an Arab spring being echoed by congressional leaders and leftist media, taken together with the incredible violence seen in the Arab spring, Oakland and else where in the OWS cities, it does not take a rocket scientist to see that O'Donnell wants the threat of violence placed on the NRA in order to pressure them into doing what he thinks is the right thing.
My final comment to you is as an American do you support a movement whose goal is to tear down the country only to supposedly rebuild it into something they think fit their political ideology? I don't and the Tea Party does not. We believe that it is more important to adhere to our constitutional principles in which case we believe that the system needs to be fixed not destroyed.
No, liberal means holding an open mind, willing to trying new things to benefit the greatest number of people. And it means acceptance. A boycott has nothing to do with violence. It's a very peaceful way of reminding certain entities of the people they serve. Boycotting corporate eateries in favor of locally owned independent establishment will quickly send a message that employers should pay fair wages. Look how quickly B of A dropped its $5 debit card fee faced with the thread of more customer-friendly options.
Probably because those are three of the biggest names on the list.
How about a list of email/contacts numbers for some of these corporations Lawrence, please. I called B.K. and Wendy's corps. tonight and emailed Starbucks and McDonalds, but would be much easier if we had a nice list. Thanks, and keep up the good work!!!
Sarah,
Often a fan of anything coming out of The Last Word but I really have to express my frustration with the sentiment of this story. You have listed a LARGE segment of this country's workforce, 99.9% of whom have no connection whatsoever to Herman Cain and his past. Inciting some sort of boycott that wouldn't have any bearing on this situation hurts nobody but potentially working class people paying their bills and scraping by. The job I have at a restaurant allows me the kind of schedule that gives me to time to go to school and hopefully be a part of helping the future of this country when I have the opportunity. Your incitement was short-sighted and ill-conceived.
Sarah, please open you mind to O'Donnell's political ideology and others like him. You see the potential destructive implications here because it can impact you. You must begin to look at liberalism through a different lens. O'Donnell is a self confessed Socialist. Where has socialism ever worked...no where. You need to read a book called The Road To Serfdom it will help you to see how liberalism and socialism always ends up. You can see a short video of the book and read a condensed version here: Good Luck
Black Quill and Ink, you obviously don't care if we become a great society or not, and there are NO examples of socialism in this world. There may be examples of dictators SAYING their countries are socialist and there may be countries who have some socialist workings, but I tell you this- unfettered capitalism is a planet destroyer and frankly, if there ever was a true socialist country, the "good ole boys" of capitalism would wage war against this country and then, when when they've burned that country to the ground through their capitalist immoralities, they would talk about how weak socialism is because it failed in that country. The age of supporting entities simply because of their capacity to destroy their competion, using this as some sign of strength, is OVER! You might as well pack it up and get out of Earth because EVERY entity who is at war with the "individual", whether they support jobs or not, won't survive this next few months!!
Sarah, although many of Larry's cretin admirers consider him an intellectual (he is a scream to watch because he believes it himself - I can just see him practicing that haughty sneer in a mirror) in truth he is quite common - by common I mean coarse and vulgar - not of the right sort - if you get my drift. Larry doesn't care one iota who might lose a job because they followed his self-serving counsel. He knows his audience is a confederacy of dunces and if they did cause a row he would bask in the limelight of having stirred the troops to action like some sort of inept, inadequate, mamby-pamby, deluded little Napoleon wanna-be, all the while keeping his lily-white hands quite clean.
To agree with some of the comments above, boycotting in grand numbers could hurt the workers! I work for one of the companies above (not one of the "major 3") which could be hurt by this. Just because the restaurants belong to the National Restaurant Assoc, doesn't necessarily mean they agree with everything they do/say/stand for. The company I work for pays me better than any other company I've ever worked for and gives great benefits and opportunities.
Siegroyrk, please open you mind to O'Donnell's political ideology and others like him. You see the potential destructive implications here because it can impact you. Please stop the Sex Story already - It is a Distraction
Re-Focus on the 99% sleeping in the cold right now, the abusive laws and tactics of the 1% (corporations, etc.), and possible ways to fix this.
Please stop spending so much time on the Sex Story (Caine) - It is a distraction.
That is why rush and the other radionuts are spending so much time on this.
Please Re-Focus on the 99%, the abuse of the 1%, and what we can do to fix this. Re-Focus on the people being gased in Oakland and sleeping in the cold tonight.
Hello everyone. The attention Herman Cain is receiving from this scandal is really unfortunate because it takes away everyone's attention from what little he has to offer as a candidate. It's a great opportunity for his campaign to have him talk about a scandal he knows about because he can actually speak from his mind (whether he is guilty or not) whereas if he has to talk about real issues that affect our country and this world he is forced to be very vanilla and fall back on his talking points, unable to speak from a mind that lacks any merit to being considered a presidential candidate. It is my opinion that most candidates, besides Ron Paul, are propped up into the spotlight to carry forward special interest agendas and it cannot be any more obvious that Mr Cain is a propped up "option" to carry on with our same monetary, military, corporate, and political agendas. I will be voting for Dr. Ron Paul. Honesty, wisdom, intelligence, and core values as a human being are values that have never been needed more as a leader than now.
He has a legitimate chance to become president but can we really trust our voting system? Dont believe me? Check out this video () from a computer Programmer testifies that Tom Feeney (Speaker of the House of Florida at the time) tried to pay him to rig election vote counts.
Thanks for reading my opinion.

As a small business owner, I am offended and and extremely pissed off at being used as a scapegoat for the Republican party to keep an unfair tax system in place.
I've already been upset that we continue to not tax the wealthy and that the Republicans say business can't hire because of rules, regulations and taxes. Let me tell you, from 30 years of personal experience, if a business cannot make a profit because of rules, regulations, and paying some taxes like everyone else, then they are lying and cheating the American public.
I'm furious-so furious that I invite any honest business that wants to really make a difference, to come forward and be part of "Business for OWS". This is not a matter of differing opinions. This is a matter of lying and stealing-and nothing more.
If you can't pay your employees well, make what you say you make, not hurt or kill anyone in the process, and not destroy the planet in the end, then you shouldn't be in business. Period.
When is the lying going to stop? I've never had a rule or regulation prevent me from making a living as a business owner. And I/we don't need any more tax breaks!! Tax cuts do not help us hire employees. And fighting for tax cuts, when one should fight for jobs for the middle class, does not help the "job creators". The day the Republicans started firing public employees, is the day it became nearly impossible for me to hang on. You fire the middle class and you fire the very people who buy my products.
And beyond that, who on earth decided that being a public employee was a dirty thing? It's work that no one in the Republican party could or would even do. They are good at one thing and one thing only: LYING AND STEALING. I want to know when the Republican party is going to stop extorting money from the American public? When is the Republican party going to stop LYING. And when are they going to stop pretending they are fighting for small business-the job creators?
I didn't ask them to represent me. I don't give them permission to use my name in their effort to extort. And they don't represent me or any business I know. In fact, if anything, I/we, small business would like to have MORE regulations and I would like to see business-all businesses pay the exact same tax rate as the middle class. And right now, Warren Buffet is correct: The middle class pays the highest tax rate of all.
I'm ashamed of Eric Cantor, John Boehner and the Republican Party!
Gigi Jacobs, Small Business owner, Los Angeles, CA.
This is so sad on so many levels it does not deserve a response. I will just pray that one day your eyes are open to what is happening to the country; who is behind all of this and how OWS are just useful idiots for a larger plan. When the country is in COMPLETE civil chaos in 2012 remember this COMMENT HERE that predicted it. Good luck with your business....you're going to need it.
Priceless, Lawrence. I agree that this story is a distraction, but you're putting it into the context of all that's wrong abt the system. Actually, it's not a distraction. It encapsulates the rottenness-to-the-core of It All. sex, lies, money, power. In this instance, the drug of choice, KochCaine.

Minimum wage for tipped employees is $2.13 hour. In 1979 the minimum wage was $2.01 per hour. Thank the national restaurant association.
Waiting tables is a female dominated profession. Workers are abused because there is a cash loophole for wages, and it is often the job of poeple with few other choices.
Please Last Word staff , give this some air time.
Here are some other facts.
1. Tipped employees are required to pay tax on at least 8% of their total sales. Even at buffet type places where the wait staff spend more time filling the buffet than taking care of customers.
2.. If the tipped employees tips and hourly wage do not equal the federal minimum hourly wage, the employer is supposed to pay the difference. This is an average over a pay period, not on an individual shift. A tippped employee is defined as anyone who makes over $30 a month in tipps.
3. Wait staff does not cost much so this encourages over staffing, and piling on as much extra work as the staff will tolerate.
Here are the realities of this that I have experienced when I waited tables as a high school and college student.
1. At buffet type places one often does not make 8%, people just don't tip that well, and don't feel they need to tip more . That means that often I paid more in taxes than I actually earned. Most tipped jobs include 1-2 hours of clean-up work that does not earn tips. The amount of tips one makes does depend on how hard the server works, but also how much table turnover one gets and how good the kitchen is. I put up with sexual harassment from the cooks and managers because that meant I got better stations, more high traffic hours, and the cooks didn't give me cold toast. I put up with wolves, because they usually would tip pretty well, if they weren’t with their wife. I put up with customers rude behavior because I was dependant on tips. Often I felt that tips were more about feigning over people than the dignity of a job well done.
2. If one does not make the federal minimum wage they employer is supposed to pay the difference. In reality many places, especially corporate places just will not pay the difference, the managers just tell you to work harder or find a different job.
3. Often there were days that were expected to be busy so a lot of wait staff was scheduled, Then the business just didn’t come. There would just not be enough customers, so one is sent home early. I have shown up for an 8 hour shift, worked two hours for only the $2.13 /hour and was sent home, so they didn’t have to pay me the other $ 15 .
Why work this job? Most of the time I would take home in tips more than the minimum wage, being young and attractive helped this. I needed a job, and I couldn’t work regular hours, so waiting tables what what I was left with. Being a tipped employee is a submissive and exploited job.
$2.13 an hour for tipped employees. i had no idea.
you can thank herman cain for that specifically.
i just read that if your tips with the minimum wage do not equal the minimum wage of $7.35, that the employer must pay the difference.
yeah, right.
The fact that the Restaurant Lobby Group is AGAINST minimum wage itself, is a reason to boycott those establishments!
To say that people will lose their jobs is NOT the case ~ those companies are going to pressure the lobby that works for them to BACK OFF, because the companies that support the lobby are NOT going to see their profits go poof because the lobby is covering their own ass!
Hey Larry, by now you no doubt know that your call to arms on the NRA was incredibly irresponsible. You put the lives of people who work there at great risk, especially in light of the increasing violence among the Occupiers. I would not have done that for anything in the world - give the address, the street view, metro stop and pictures of the employees all the while harranguing that pack of thieves, rapists, vandals and freaks to do your bidding because you are too much a pantywaist, a prissy little girl to do it yourself. You hide behind the security guard and pretty blue windows of your studio ranting and spewing your dogma - it is very Hitler-esque, oh, and cowardly.
In case it hasn't occurred to your feeble, freakish, fanatic, fulsome, unstable little brain, the NRA is protecting no secrets of Herman Cain unless it is also true they hide the secrets of the women who have made the allegations. N'est-ce pas?
Larry, I assure you that if I worked at the NRA today, in the lowest paid postion, I would file a lawsuit against you personally and against MSNBC for inciting violence and possible bodily harm in the sole interest of making yourself look like some sort of the sissy version of Captain America. You, Larry, are diseased and a liability to MSNBC and America.
My wife was a waitress and made 60-70k before we had kids. They don't need a min wage.
Why are you giving in to terrorism? Yes, terrorism! How dare you take an organization who is clearly anti-people and then still wish to support it just because it supplies jobs? These fools will not break the disclosure agreement. They will never od anything that could come back and bite thme in their rears, and I mean that both literally and figuratively.
Workers at fast food establishments, make well ABOVE minimum wage. Many teens seeking jobs, won't work at Burger King, McDonalds, etc. Some of these positions pay between $8-$10 an hour.
Waiters/waitresses make a decent amount in tips, MOST of this money is not taxed and off the books.
I watch Larry last night and saw the absolute hatred and animosity clearly displayed in his eyes and on his face. I was shocked and sickened to see him all but call for violence.
It is those like him, who I believe, are sowing the seeds of anarchy!
I was grateful that the protesters refused to follow his lead, although not surprised, considering his low viewership numbers.
mamaearth, do you make more than 8-10 an hour? I'll bet you do. Just because some of these people make more than minimum wage DOESN'T change the fact that this association fights tooth and nail against those very numbers! In fact, they fought tooth and nail against much much lower wages than that, trying to get them even LOWER!
Do you work harder than these people, per dollar? Do you believe that because some of these workers are teens that they should be paid less than older people, for the same work, because you sure made it sound that way. Lawrence has excellent viewership numbers, and rightfully so, so that part was definately a lie, too... since obviously YOU are one of them.
