President Obama called the death of Moammar Khaddafy a "momentous day in the history of Libya." Speaking from the White House, today the president addressed the ousted leader's dramatic demise and Libya's successful bid to end that regime.
"The dark shadow of tyranny has been lifted. And with this enormous promise, the Libyan people now have a great responsibility — to build an inclusive and tolerant and democratic Libya that stands as the ultimate rebuke to Khaddafy's dictatorship. We look forward to the announcement of the country's liberation, the quick formation of an interim government, and a stable transition to Libya’s first free and fair elections," said Obama.
There are conflicting reports on who actually killed Khaddafy, and what went down in the moments before he was shot in the head.
NBC News learned a Predator drone fired a Hellfire missile on the dictator's 15-vehicle convoy, which led to him fleeing the scene. He was later found in a drainage ditch by rebel fighters near Sirte.
Disturbing video of his capture quickly hit the web. The video, taken by a bystander, shows a bloody and dazed-looking Khaddafy being dragged around by his hair. At this point, he was still alive. Later images show his lifeless body on the pavement.
He ruled Libya with an iron fist for 42-years. The 69-year-old is the first leader to be killed in the Arab Spring uprisings.

before we hear from the conservative baggers on this thread, i would just like to say that lawrences' opening segment was excellent.
i can understand why republicans/conservatives/baggers get so upset with and pissed at lawrence. his opening segment makes the republicans look sophmoric in their attempts to make President Obama look incompetent on matters of defense and the protection of innocent people, including americans.
putting the republicans in their place after the horrible way they have treated our President is made easier because of mitt, michelle, newt, rick, mitch, john, eric and the baggers. all lawrence has to do is tell the truth.

what W. bush did was far worse. he did the same thing with saddam, except he decided to use over 4,000 american troops and hundreds of thousands of innocent iraqi lives as collateral damage.

I am not a Qaddahfi fan, however, he was an enemy of western economic policies brought about by his no interest loans to the developing countries of Africa. This undercut alot of powerful western interests. The left and others are clueless to be celebrating this action. Let's all take a look at Libya in two years and see "how things are going".
