Republicans have a new frontrunner in the presidential race.
A newly released NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll now shows former pizza CEO Herman Cain in the lead with 27 percent of the GOP vote. Willard M. Romney slid down to second place at 23 percent. Rick Perry – who was the frontrunner not so long ago — got bumped back to third place with 16 percent. Ron Paul and Newt Gingrich rounded out the top five. Michele Bachmann…not so much.
This is a dramatic turn of events as just last month, Cain tied for fifth with five percent. Perry claimed the top spot with 38 percent and Mitt Romney was in the same second spot with an unchanged 23 percent.
When you throw President Obama into the mix, Romney does a bit better. In a match-up, the new numbers suggest Obama would beat Romney, 46-44. Up against Cain, Obama's lead would grow to 49-38.

This has nothing to do with the issue at hand, however I believe that it is an important subject to address.
No one has commented on or done the research on the "real" value of the employment figures. What I mean is that there is no accounting for the wages paid in any new employment relative to the wages earned in the previous employment of the wage earner. For example, the automakers, who previously paid $40-$50 plus per hour benefits to existing employees are now paying $14 with few benefits to new hires doing the same jobs. Or when old employees are rehired, they take a haircut to rejoin the company.
Someone, hopefully you, Lawrence, will illustrate that employment figures should include pay adjustments in the mix of the employment figures.
The Auto companies are not paying that little but those whom they laid off because of the moving have been rehired through outsourcing companies for 25% less. Those who used to make the amount you have said, are those who worked directly. Those were replaced by H1B visa holders which are legal immigrants. And the rest were just ask to retire. Those who worked for a long time but retired have been collecting the company paid retirement (some have been retired for 40 years) have been collecting longer than what they worked for the company. That is why GM stop paying their three quarter of their salaries with profit sharing. All companies have given up on hiring directly in order to save health insurance and retirement.
Mitt Romney, use to take over companies, fired all employees and after they were nice and hungry on unemployment benefits he re-hired them through an outsource company for 40% less. That is how the Mittzer earned his money and that is who some want for president. The outsourcer king and contributor to making poverty the norm and the middle class non-existent.
the unemployment numbers are only based on those whom file for such assistance. This assistance only lasts so long - 99 weeks. As an unemployed person nears the 99 week limit - he drops off the tally sheet into some abyss that peeps hope no one discovers.
Unemployment (by the numbers) might be 9.1 percent, but this fails to include the following:
Those whom dropped off by reaching 99 weeks.
Those whom just started working (college and high school aged kids) as they do noty have enough vested to make a claim for benefits.
You are only eligible for unemployment - if you became unemployed by actions of the employer (down sizing, seasonal, job no longer necessity to the employer), if you were fired - you cannot claim benefits.
When you see unemployment rates - like the current 9.1 percent - add 12 to the number and you get a better idea just how bad things are.
Sadly - cannot offer a valid reason why one should add the magic number 12 - but it seems like a number that represents those whom either dropped off the benefit rolls, or those whom do not qualify. This number (currently 12) will only increase as more and more people fall off the rolls into the above mentioned abyss.
In a decade - unemployment will only be about 4 percent - but need to add 20 to that number as more and more people no longer qualify. This of course can change when republicans make it illegal to offer / collect unemployment (even tho you pay into it with every pay check)
Why would someone vote GOP after all they have done. They have sure shown their true colors. Their green with envy toward Obama when he won the Nobel prize, their yellow with jealousy when even in these time he shows he is on top ahead of their best candidates. The black in their heart with their hatred of the middle class and poor as they are against the jobs, the Jobs Bill will create and the cuts they want to make to programs that help the poor. And their blackness against the country when they held the debt ceiling hostage. They further damage this country beyond repair. Their not having enough sense to be in favor of the country and leave partisanship aside. Their jealousy toward this president who have been an advocate of this country and all its citizen is unconscionable.
To pick Cain, who have shown to be more of a coward, while he sat idly by other chose to "get into trouble" and pay the penalty of choosing to do what was right in the eyes of God and the constitution. Those whom history have praised are those who have chosen trouble over complaisance. Those are the heroes of the past who risked their lives for the heroes of today, and today heroes are those who are risking their freedom for the benefit of those who will come after. Those in Wall Street who at this time are too many to mention have more courage than Mr. Cain. He will do well in just being a business man and be grateful to those who are making it possible for him to be a candidate today. (Hey Cain, do not expect to win the Nobel Prize)
The previous adm.'s president with his vendetta war who have shown a clown's red with his joking about not finding WOMDs while our young men and women died in Iraq. That alone opened my eyes.
I think I can answer that. See, it's like this:
On one side, the wealthy and those who are very ambitious are looking at the state of things today and thinking that if they can just weaken the government a little more they will be able to pocket a lot of ill-gotten cash through unethical business practices. These people don't care about ethics, they don't care about the rest of us, hell they don't care about their own employees. They care about money and about getting it fast. If the GOP wins, they believe they will be in a position to do just that, and the rest of the 'suckers' our here will just be SOL.
On the other side... the very religious side... well, they do what their spiritual leaders tell them to do. They don't ask questions, they simply believe what they are told. And since the religious leaders on the conservative side were all bought and paid for long before the politicians were, they have had quite a while to solidify their hold. They have turned their flock into single-issue voters concerned only with voting for the candidate most likely to support a move to take away the rights of women to control their own bodies.
Sure there area lot of other Christian values that the candidates on the right are not really pushing, but if their leaders tell them that it's more important to be anti-abortion than to be a good person, well... who are they to argue? They will get on the bus with the rest of their church groups and head out to the polling places to cast a vote for whomever they have been told to vote for.
That is the really frightening thing about the elections. Most of the country really never bothers to pay much attention to politics. Most people won't bother to vote. But the evangelical conservatives will ALL vote. It's a religious obligation for them.
This is the real reason that elections continue to remain so close (and the reason that the polls we see quoted all the time seem to be so heavily right wing - the folks doing the calculations give conservative responses greater weight, because they know that the evangelical turnout is a far, far higher percentage than the turnout of any other major sub-group).
We often hear commentators remind us that when the turn out is big, Democrats win. Now we are seeing all kinds of legislation from the Right that is designed to keep people from voting. It's all part of the same strategy. Keep the number of voters low overall and make sure that every potential evangelical vote gets cast.
If the rest of the nation were to actually show up to vote, the numbers would be VASTLY different (and far more left leaning) than any polling predictions are showing.
I wonder what Limbaugh would say if Obama said,if yo not workin blame yo sef.He would have a field day with that.
Herman Cains 999 plan, I have a better idea. Lets take everyone who is 65 and over and cannot live without SS, and Medicare and turn them into biscuits to feed the working poor.
For those who are not familiar with my rants, I am being sarcastic.
SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOPLE!!! Also Hollywood is remaking the film due to be released 2012
Those biscuits would taste terrible
If you do not vote for Herman Cain, "the real black man," it is because you are a racist who is afraid of a dark skinned intelligent black man who was educated at a black institution and who does not think how you believe a black man should think. He is the real deal and your bigotry won't allow you to see things objectively. He will win the Republican nomination and the Presidency and get this country back on track.
I think not. First off, most of us aren't Republicans, and those who are probably won't vote in the primary (and wouldn't have no matter who was running). That doesn't make us racists or afraid.
If he gets the nomination (very doubtful, since the 'racist vote' is strongly in the republican camp and nothing will bring out the white supremacists to vote in a primary like the chance to vote against a black man on the ballot), then we will have two choices, and both will be black. I think you will be hard pressed to label votes cast for either candidate 'racist'.
Do you even think about this stuff before you post? Because, honestly, it looks like you are just phoning it in for the paycheck.
It's just funny how the left was so quick to label anyone who didn't vote for Obama a racist. Now we have a QUALIFIED black man who is poised to clean up four years of poor leadership, and the true racists, the Democrats, who wish to enslave blacks to a perpetual welfare status, are showing their true colors. Did you happen to think before you replied to my post? The minorities of this country are way worse off than they were four years ago and their vote will not be taken for granted anymore.
Where do you get this stuff? What's funny is the way right wing posters just conveniently forget to back up anything they say with examples. You're just repeating talking points. There is no argument in to your argument.
kurt,
you are saying that President Obama isn't "the real black man" because he is a democrat?
i hope you won't be too embarassed to come back here when mitt wins the republican nomination, and NOT herman cain. i disagree with mr. Cain's politics, but i have no feelings one way or the other about his blackness. michael steele, allen west and other african americans are also intelligent, and as human beings, they are free to choose their political party.
i'm sure you threw your racist comment in to show us how you feel when you think we play the race card at every turn, you know, because we don't have any other argument (wink-wink).
i hope you will be happy with mitt romney winning the republican nomination.
No, conservatives are winning because this President is doing a terrible job.
What data are you basing that judgement on? I keep hearing this stuff. I am getting sick of people making these general claims about how bad a president Obama is. Practically from the day he took office, people have tried to label him as the "Worst President in our nations history." Strangely they never follow up with any actual arguments to support it (except perhaps "Obamacare" which was not his original plan but rather a compromise plan that was what he could get passed). Anything else? Not really.
How can you point to any other evidence when he has never really been given the opportunity to show what the legislation he wanted to sign into law might have done. He has been blocked over and again, and then blamed that the resistance is his fault, but we all know that it is the plan of the Republicans to give no ground, make no compromises and hope that it reflects badly on Obama instead of them. Well they are wrong. This is the worst Congress in the history of the Nation, but we have no way to tell, yet just how good the POTUS is.
Those who bury their heads in the sand cannot see the horizon. Just1morevoice your head is buried deep.
Okay Mr.smart guy issendorf instead of just popping off, explain to us why Pres. Obama is doing a terrible job.But while your at it explain why the 13% approval rating congress is doing such a great job.
@kurt - You appear to be under the mistaken impression that I find value in your inane platitudes. Did you get that one from a fortune cookie? If my head is buried deep in anything, it's actual research. I know the difference between a credible source and a hack. Do you?
Where do I get this stuff? Look all around you dude.
-More Wars for Oil (Libya)
-Worst poverty rates in US History.
-Gitmo still open
-Arming the Mexican Drug Cartels
-500 Billion to a fraudulent "Green Company" so Biden can have a photo op.
-Worst unemployment in history
-Job Czar moving his own company's jobs to China (GE)
I could go on and on, but you can't change stupid, so I will stop here.
Don't be afraid of the real black man and let's all get rid of the imposter with absolutley no leadership skills other than being a good speaker (except when the tele-prompter malfunctions)
As I expected, No Comment.
