NY9 winner Bob Turner with his wife Peggy at an election night party in New York on Tuesday.
In a major blow for Democrats, Republican Bob Turner pulled off a major upset in New York's Ninth District. A Republican hasn't held this seat since 1923. The GOP now takes custody of a district that President Obama carried with 55 percent of the vote in 2008.
And to think, it was all over a crotch shot.
Turner beat Democratic assemblyman David Weprin, a guest on Monday's edition of The Last Word, in the special election to replace former Rep. Anthony Weiner, who vacated the seat after sending saucy photos to women who were not his wife.
Weprin was an assemblyman who served two decades in public office. As for the winner? He served as the president of the production company that created the Jerry Springer Show.
RNC chairman Reinhold Priebus tweeted after the victory, "Congratulations to Congressman elect Turner on his landmark victory in NY-9! Tonight the voters overwhelmingly rejected the Obama agenda."
DNC chair Debbie Wasserman-Schultz played down the defeat as referendum on President Obama by telling reporters, "In this district, there is a large number of people who went to the polls tonight who didn't support the president to begin with and don't support Democrats — and it's nothing more than that," she said.
The district consists many Jewish and conservative-leaning voters.

short lived victory.
i hear that district is gone by next election.
and not much of a gain in NV seeing that already was Teapubliecant (the new republican brand)
shark Agreed Its one district out of many. 1 month from now It will be forgotten as most things are US Voters have a very short attention span & are easily manipulated by Fox faux News - Rush Beck Hannity / Cheney / 800 con radio shows who spread non info - smears - lies daily for 3 yrs I will not forget GOP vow to BreaK Obama Make him fail Deny him a 2nd term If folks fall for that then they deserve the toxic results under any GOP Pres
I wonder with the low numbers that polls show the GOP congress has if this election in NY was not hacked. Who can be happy with another Repub. in congress, the congress who held the debt ceiling hostage. I have been smelling a rat since the recall elections in WI and this election in NY. I think the voters have been listening to idle gossip when it comes to the Israel question. He has nothing to do with the way NATO and the allies act against Israel war against Palestine. It is very sensible to look toward peace instead of war in Israel. If we look at the Bible we will learn that Israel was supposed to be "trampled by the nations" until the Messiah came for them the first time, because they did not accept Him or the second coming for us because He is supposed to restore God's original purpose for the earth. The more we go against what the Bible says the more trouble we will be guilty of not taking a side with God instead. We must respect Israel in the same way King David respected Saul, but we know that the kingship was David's and his next in line, namely Jesus. We cannot take the Bible as truth and yet behave as if it did not give us the info we need. We should be on the side of peace. And in Israel's case, they are both in the wrong when it comes to peace.
And the Jewish community do not realize that Republicans are for the Arabs and their oil. They are going against peace. They do not realize that the US under the GOP is controlled by those who are bent in giving into war by the MILITARY INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX who benefits from having wars all over the place. To be against Obama for the economy while giving a war monger the seat, shows a childish move. The GOP is not on the side of Israel for real. They are on the side of OIL. Look at their relationship with the Saudis, Kuwait and the states in South America who hid the NAZI officers.
And I bet you Commute to work on a bike everyday, because you don't condone the use of any oil that is use or the military we use to protect the ships that bring it here. The millions of jobs it creates, or for that matter the drilling that is done here in the US, stop living in Utopia man... get real. and go fill up for work. If your one of the lucky few who still have one
No, I drive a hybrid. My husband drives a bike. But I am thinking now that if the Jews only care about Israel then they do not care about the rest of Americans who really need the Obama bill to be able to get good paying jobs. I think they should have thought a little about what their vote could mean for the American worker. The president have to think of the American worker first. The Jews are taking care of themselves. If they are going to vote depending upon the stand on Israel when they are a minority I think they should go back to Israel and fight all by themselves. It is obvious they want to hurt the American workers.
Look, this was certainly not good news. And I think DWS was wrong to completely dismiss the broader implications. But as a Jewish former resident of the district, I know Eliot Engel was also wrong to completely dismiss the district-specific aspects of this election.
Ed Koch's Turner endorsement was explicitly about Obama's supposed favoring of the Palestinians over the Israelis, an issue Turner emphasized. And the district -- which was always more Archie Bunker than Jeb Bartlet (remember Gerry Ferraro in the 2008 primaries) -- has been trending increasingly Republican over the years. They hated Weprin's Albany vote for marriage equality, and were just the crowd for Turner's classic GOP "fear the Muslims" campaign (ressurrecting the "Ground Zero mosque" yet). And yes, he was an awful candidate to boot (Turner is nutty, but personable; Weprin could barely get a coherent sentence out on your friendly turf).
None of this is to dismiss the outcome; obviously Democrats need to get their act together. And I'd say Obama has already begun to do that pretty effectively, so we can hope this was the bookend to a bad period rather than a portent. But presenting things as even worse than we know they are sure can't help close the enthusiasm gap. A little fact-based perspective, please.
If you mean that democrats now are going to be taken hostage by the Jewish community, that would be typical. I say to the president, stick to the program of helping Americans, and if the Jews do not like it well, they have a country, Americans only have the US. We do not have the support of any other country. So, now besides the GOP holding us hostage we have now the Jewish community. I think the Jewish community should start getting along with the American worker. Americans need this bill pass. We need jobs. And we need Obama there. Because the Koch controlled GOP is not thinking of all Americans. All they want is to protect the wealth of the top 20%.
Do you remember the "all the shovel ready jobs" waiting for the unemployed people when Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, a $787 billion economic stimulus package. a year later that worked out to cost tax payers some where like 250k per job produced. and today i heard the FBI raided solar panel company touted by the White House that gave them a $528 million that just went belly up. Now he wants the people to give him another 1/2 trillion more to do the same, I think most voters not just the Jewish, the Tea party, and the Republicans have had it with this President also and are ready to try something new and different, the hope and change didn't happen like people thought.
It's time to play the Willie Nelson song,"Turn out the light's the party's over" for Nobama. He's up to his ass with alligators, grasping at anything, "pass this Jobs bill now" he says, tell me he not despirate. At this rate he will put Jimmy Carter is second place as the worst president.
@Latinvoter-Yea that was disgusting. They pushed the loan through for that solar panel company without doing the proper financial checks because they wanted a photo op when the vice prez was in California. Idiots
@Afrommi-You are a typical Left Wing Nazi racist.

President Obama should think first of the American worker. I think that the fact the Jewish voted against the Democrat goes to show they are only thinking about their precious Israel and they do not care for Americans and they probably do not think of themselves as part of this country.
They won, so hats off to them.
But what is with the Priebus hatred of the President? The man is incapable of releasing a statement or saying anything without bashing the President. It's too much, almost in the way Rick Santorum is TOO homophobic.
November midterms,Wisconsion,Nevada,Solyndra and several more being investagated and now losing weiners seat, maybee Obama needs to pull a L.B.J
I agree afrommi.
February 2013
One sunny day in February, 2013 an old man approached the White
House from across Pennsylvania Avenue , where he'd been sitting on a park
bench. He spoke to the U.S. Marine standing guard and said, "I would
like to go in and meet with President Obama."
The Marine looked at the man and said, "Sir, Mr. Obama is no
longer president and no longer resides here."
The old man said, "Okay", and walked away.
The following day, the same man approached the White House and
said to the same Marine, "I would like to go in and meet with President
Obama."
The Marine again told the man, "Sir, as I said yesterday, Mr.
Obama is no longer president and no longer resides here."
The man thanked him and, again, just walked away.
The third day, the same man approached the White House and spoke
to the very same U..S. Marine, saying "I would like to go in and meet with
President Obama."
The Marine, understandably agitated at this point, looked at the
man and said, "Sir, this is the third day in a row you have been here asking
to speak to Mr. Obama. I've told you already that Mr. Obama is no longer
the president and no longer resides here. Don't you understand?"
The old man looked at the Marine and said, "Oh, I
understand. I just love hearing it."
The Marine snapped to attention, saluted, and said, "See you
tomorrow, Sir."
The GOP guy who won in NY worked on the classless Jerry Springer show !
He suits the GOP Baggers well
That is good to know. Jerry Springer is a huge supporter of President Obama.
There will be much more where that came from. Especially as long as you have a dispicable person like Wasserman-Schultz calling the shots in the Dumbocratic Party. Get used to losing, oh I forgot that comes natural for losers.
LMAO
guess you have your head so far stuck in your 4th point of contact that you make up silly stuff. i think more of a lack of oxygen.
