Mayor Michael Bloomberg riding the NYC subway.
In last night's press conference about the "credible but uncorroborated" terrorist threat in New York City and Washington DC, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said that everyone should go about their business as usual. The mayor also added that he was planning on taking the subway to work, as he does every morning.
About a half an hour ago, Mayor Bloomberg tweeted "the best thing we can do to fight terror is to refuse to be intimidated by it." He also posted a photo of him riding the subway this morning, just like he promised. Who ever thought a photo of a mayor's morning commute could be so inspiring?

About a half an hour ago, Mayor Bloomberg tweeted "the best thing we can do to fight terror is to refuse to be intimidated by it."
you Sir are 100% correct!!!!!!!!!!!
In a way this reminds me of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth deciding to remain in London at Buckingham Palace during World War II. Seventy-one years ago tomorrow, 10th Sept 1940, Buckingham Palace was damaged by Nazi bombers during the London Blitz. The King and Queen examined the damage, shook it off, stayed in the Palace, and thus demonstrated great courage and a great example to their country and the world. Refuse to be intimidated, even by the evilest people.
A popular phrase was crafted and posted through out Great Britain to offer instruction and encouragement to the Brits under attack. "Keep Calm and Carry On."
Kudos to you, Mayor, and to the citizens of NYC. Indeed, keep calm and carry on.
The best response to terrorism is not to be intimidated, and the best response to a hurricane that threatens Manhattan is to let the prisoners drown. What an odd man.
All this is more retirect of an attack that will probably not even happen with the Republican candidates speaking on dismantling Homeland Security they need to act as if we are going to be attacked It is sad that if the terrorists want to attack us they can just come across the border. Another thing is they can just be leaking information to watch them spend spend a goal of Bin Ladens and if they are going to attack it more than likely will be in other areas of the country on different days and they are probably here and have been for some time People need to not be in fear and carry on with their normal lives it is all you can do Pray to God for protection is all you can do and hope they fixed the things that could have saved more lives on 911
Mayor Bloomberg's decision not to include clergy in today's September 11th remembrance is misguided and insensitive. Simply look at the role of clergy of all faith and the job most clergy take in the grieving and healing process. As the mayor tiptoes through the political garden not wanting to offend any group of people, did he even consider the feelings of the victims and the survivors of our nation's greatest modern tragedy? The mayor's reference to the separation of church and state is nonsense... Doesn't the mayor march in the St. Patrick's Day Parade which honors a Catholic saint? The mayor is just another wealthy politician who wants to make his own rules... If God shows up at the September 11th memorial will he direct Ray Kelly to have God removed? Good luck Mr. Mayor, not a NYC policeman would comply with the order.
What part of separation of church and state do you not understand?
I agree with him 100% if we don't just go on with our lives and live in fear, they win. The first step to beat terrorism is to convince ourselves we won't be terrorized. I don't know ifs a good idea for a Mayor to take the subway tho. Maybe not the smartest thing a Mayor has ever done.
Its the politics of it all that spreads fear, hate and phobia. Politicians with self serving agenda thrive on such emotions so that they can get away with it. Those who want us to live in fear on the other hand thrive on the specatcle that we make of ourselves.
Ten years on, its time to move on. Let the memory of the victims remain sacred with the families.
A people in fear and divided are easy ruled.
