President Obama's approval ratings dropped to an all-time low, according to a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll. With exactly 14 months to go until the presidential election, only 44 percent of Americans approve of Obama's job performance. His rating first dipped below the 50 percent line in December 2009. Up until now, his numbers have fluctuated between 45 and 50 percent; in spite of the recent debt ceiling drama, S&P downgrade, recession, job crisis, two wars and killing bin Laden, his numbers have held fairly steady.
Congress has it worse — only 13 percent approve of the job that Congress is doing. Bill McInturff, the Republican pollster who conducted this poll along with Democrat Peter Hart, credited this summer's debt ceiling saga as a pivotal moment in politics.
"We are entering a new phase of the American political dialogue that has been irrevocably shifted in a way that will prove difficult to predict. Historically, though, this type of deep voter anger, unease, and economic pessimism leads to unstable and unpredictable political outcomes."

Who are they asking??? I know of only one person that did not vote for the President and the rest are with me phone banking every week
People have missed the point......The Repulicans actions will only
alow the Rich to make more money with out doing a thing for it........
That's pretty much of what the rich has done in the past.....
Lifting the restrictions had caused this original economic collapes.....
In alowing the risk to be taken of thoughs who have gambled in corparate greed
then we had to bail them out.......
Obama's latest tax breaks for thoughs who hire, is the only way
to build up buisnesses who wish to expand , creating more jobs.....
R Cristman....
@doves-You must shelter yourself in a very homogeneous environment. You should get out more and expand your horizons. You never know, you may just find you have things in common with others who don't share your political view. I have friends of all persuasions and learn from them all.
They did not ask me. Maybe they only ask Republicans. I think he is doing fine considering the congress has been uncooperative right from the beginning. I think he is the best president we have had. He talks to people all the time and reaches to all. Unfortunately people want to much of the president. They do not understand that he do not write policy but all he can do is ask for the congress for what he wants, policies that he can sign into law. But, with a congress who is only looking and working for failure it would be impossible for any president. Give him a congress that will cooperate and give his Democratic programs an opportunity and you will see how far he can go. But of course, republicans would be too afraid of his success.
We must remember that the economy is not like that because of his policies because the congress have not pass any of his policies.
What policies of Obama have pass the congress? I would like to know which ones.
Republicans can't stand a Black man occupying the "White" House. Simple as that.
He had a super majority his first two years and did nothing! Americans and other nations have lost confidence in him. Business large and small are not hiring because they are scared to death of Obamacare and a second term that will allow things like cap & trade that are detrimental to growing a business. Obama has no intention of creating jobs he wants the majority dependent on Big Goverment which he is trying to grow by the minute. jopech2 did you learn that in the first grade school of liberlism.
@jopech2- Classic comment of an imbecile. When all else fails "play the race card." So predictable.
Well said Kurt. You can not disagree with Mr. Obama's policies regardless of your political persuasion in these blogs. You will be called a racist. They are no different than when the Republicals called people that disagreed with the Iraq war: Unpatriotic. The people on this blog got angry with that remark. The trouble is that ignorant people have freedom of speech and you should allow them to let the rest of the world know how truly ignorant they are.
Yeah- Obama is actually wildly popular. The people just can't get enough of him. (sip- another taste of kool-aid). Polls are all wrong. Even the MSNBC polls are run by conservatives (sip)
That kool-aid bit was old in 2008.
Yeah- it was. Unfortunately, when reading these blogs and noticing how such a small minority of people can just be absolutely infatuated with Obama in spite of having had nothing but a disasterous Pressidency- then calculating that everyone who isn't as blinded as they are must be racist, etc., no other possibility comes to mind.
I mean- read up above- "Republicans can't stand a Black man", " I know of only one person that did not vote for the President", " I think he is doing fine" are but examples of the larger blogosphere on MSNBC. Somewhere Reality has ceased to exist in these people's minds, hence, "kool-aid"
I must surround myself with pro-Obama people, because just like the previous comments, I haven't heard anyone regretting their vote for Obama. Most are furious at Congress and the GOP -- but AFAIK, we're still standing behind our President and looking forward to a second term.
I cannot understand how the public could blame Obama for economic woes. The man inherited a staggering economy, job creation falling like a rock, and a republican party that fillabustered anything put forward by the Pres.Yes I know he had a majority in both houses, but there were the blue dogs and Leiberman, that are repubs wearing dems suits.Cant people see the repubs for what they are,the same ones that got us into the mess in the first place.Obama was true to his word when he said he would be bipartisan but that does'nt work with the republican/tea party of no.He has fulfilled almost all of his campaign promises, including health care, childrens insurance and minumum wage increase just to name a few.Older Americans (like myself)better stop and think very hard about what the republicans will do to Social Security and Medicare should they get back in power. And younger Americans for that matter. The middle class has a lot to lose to.Repubs huff & puff, oh yes we are for the middle class, but their voting records indicate different. And so I would hope people wake up and smell the bad tea by the time 2012 rolls around.
Our nation is controlled by an obstructionist Republican Party who would rather see the country collapse rather than work with a Black President who could possibly get re-elected on their watch! If they help the country by passing the programs needed, the President has a chance of becoming one of the greatest Presidents in the history of America and they, the Republican Tea Party, have a chance of being looked at as the buffoons they really are anyway you look at it! QUICO!
I'd like to say AMEM to all the comments. I could not say it better. God bless our President Obama.
All I can say is Amen to the comments . God bless President Obama!!
We are still behind him. Poll or no poll. were are sick of the polls. we are sick of the repbulicains.
When America needs an ENEMA it needs to be injected through the Whitehouse... this will help our Nation greatly... BO stinks and Must GO!!!!
Have you ever made a mistake that was so bad you just can't man up to it? Like being a Republican.
Anybody that voted for Pres. Obama made a mistake that was so bad that only the most clueless can't man up to it.
We have to stop carrying water for this guy. His policies have not worked. We need a primary and some new faces before its too late. He can't win reelection.
I posted a request yesterday on Chris Matthews' Hardblogger site bringing up the subject of the President's approval ratings among Democrats... So today...
President Obama's approval rating among his core supporters is the highest of any Democratic president in recent history...
Cry havoc and loose the dogs of drama... Now how about some objective history on how things got the way they are; Michael Moore was doing documentaries on lost jobs years ago; John Kerry campaigned on that issue in '04, and now suddenly the country has gone, "Oh!" And reacted with predictable immaturity with an "I want what I want, and I want it right now" attitude the media is only too happy to validate. After all, teenagers make up the largest group of consumers and impulse buyers.
Send in the grown-ups...
The President's approval rating is low because of the Tea Party's holding the country hostage. Tabling 27 jobs bills, 15% approval for congress ,extremist ideology and low turn outs at their rally's.
Saw a road side poster of Shrub yesterday. The print was "Miss me yet"..
man, congress is at 15%? must be a different poll than my neighborhood has a rating for em. Obama's may be down but heck, it is a far cry from the teapublicans rating. he'll go back up soon. all that's needed is Bohner and Cantor to open their mouths again. yahooooo.
You forgot to blame Bush I, Reagan, Nixon, Ford, Herbert Hoover, Margaret Tatcher and aliens. That is what I love about you "Progressives" It is always somebody elses fault. Don't you guys have mirrors in your house?
And once again, Robert E. is another demonstrating an impeccable example of using a "strawman argument." The directions are simple: take a set of old clothes (a thrift store is an excellent souce), stuff liberally with straw, and use an old pillow case or sack for the head. Draw a face on it if you want, and douse liberally with an inflammable like gasoline, and apply a flame source.
Admire the blaze and loudly proclaim how you've brought illumination to the masses living in the dark...
Apparently I've gotten in trouble elsewhere for the "violent language" is this strictly rhetorical metaphor, so let me explain (Robert probably won't get it). First, the position is misrepresented, distorted, or otherwise rendered simplistic via cherry picked assumptions and occasional facts (like Barack Obama is President). Then a "pseudo-connection" is claimed (with more attendant cherry-picking), a veiled insult or two is offered (known as an ad hominem attack), and the originator is doubtless smugly congratulating themselves for his prowess and insight...
Most of us don't believe in space aliens there, Bobbie, but they sell some nifty tinfoil hats here on Planet Utah, and the believers gobble them up...
margret thatcher running for office? she a teapublican? ET left and went home after witnessing the debt ceiling debacle. took his tin foil hat with him.
SL Cabbie. Paragraph three is right out of the liberal instruction book on how to argue your point when the facts don't support your view. Nice work, its good to see that you can read.
Well If they were to ask me I would be on the negative side of MR. Obama, 9.1% unemployment and with blacks at a 17% and young blacks at 43% it's only a miracle the the mobs that go into a convince stores are not out of control yet like in England, it's time a for a change, the hope is gone and Mr. Oboma was not ready for this job 2 1/2 years in the senate is jut not long enough to lead the Best nation in the history of the world and when you double the deficit form 7 trillion to 16 trillion in just 2 1/2 years. it's time to step down and give some one else a chance to fix it. If he loved and cared he would step down and give some one who could run it. first clue i notice he was not the right man for the job was when he got Bidden for his VP. eough said.
